Just seen on the news a baby is in hospital after being bitten by an xl bully. And two people have been arrested. Baby is in a serious condition. Why haven't these killer dogs been banned.

They are lovely dogs, our neighbour has one, it's more scared of people than people scared of it. The dog is well looked after and wears a muzzle when out. It's the owners of all dogs why dogs are vicious. No dog should be left with a baby/child alone.

They are not lovely, they’re often bred to have aggressive traits, and no matter how good the owner is, these traits will likely surface with tragic consequences.
Ask yourself - why would anyone want to own a monster dog like this?

ButtonMoonLoon · 02/01/2025 15:58

Has anyone seen an update on how the baby is doing?

caramac04 · 03/01/2025 12:48

Breed traits cannot be ignored. Breeding for certain, helpful/service, traits proves that. Unfortunately XL bullies have been bred to become aggressive without warning. I’ve met some lovely bullies but I wouldn’t have one or let kids/my dogs around them.

Exactly.

I’ve had this argument with a relative who has a similar breed of dog to an XL bully (there’s xl bully in it’s hero to age somewhere, it looks v similar),also a a breed that’s been bred to fight. I will not let my children in her house as it’s always there.

Her argument is that I have my own, large breed dog.

Yeah, a golden retriever. Bred with a soft mouth to retrieve and carry birds without breaking skin. Bred for a gentle and good nature. Not that I would leave her alone unattended with children, but it’s the point that you’ve got a hell of a better chance if my dog suddenly had a mental breakdownn and turned and attacked you, than if you were attacked by a dog that’s been bred to have jaws which lock. my golden retriever is large, but I know I could overpower her if I had to. My relatives dog? Solid muscle, I wouldn’t stand a chance.

And I know people have a lot of statistics about labs biting - they are sharks when they are teething puppies. When you look at statistics of bites, my vet was telling me, it’s usually people falling fowl of sharp puppy teeth.

caramac04 · 03/01/2025 16:21

A golden retriever or lab cannot be compared to an XL at all. Yes they might nip when they’re teething - that’s normal puppy behaviour just as human babies chomp down when teething.
Nobody in their right mind would have an XL around little ones. Or at all. Lovely when they’re lovely and killers when they’re not.

They won't be banned because they are such ickle darling fur babies. It's the owner, not the breed. They won't hurt a fly, the inbreeding is irrelevant......

And other such nonsense. Poor baby, I hope she or he is ok.

they are banned though…

Conveniently overlooking the fact that most dogs do not have the ability to easily maim dismember and kill adult humans.
It's a bit like saying we should keep leopards as pets because domestic moggies are just as likely to attack someone. It's not the propensity to attack which is important it's the ability to maime and kill.

Of course they should be banned and euthanised. This type of breed should not exist in the first place. If it saves just one innocent child's life then it's worth doing

Burnoutforever · 16/02/2025 20:56

It needs to be a safeguarding issue. It’s not enough to just have them registered. It needs to be illegal to have one in a home where there are children.

There’s no reason to keep them, is there? 🤷‍♀️. Horrible, ugly dogs. Unfortunately cars and men are necessary evils…

Blimey. You’re really on the wind up. I’ll leave you to your weird ranting. Fingers crossed it’s never you or your loved ones attacked, eh?

Highly allergic so in fairness I avoid all dogs.
I can't comment other than please keep them away from me in public places such as pubs, shops & cafes unless assistance dogs. Then I will happily move away.

HRTFT but surely we’re at a stage where parents who allow their kids to be around these animals need to be prosecuted in the event of a bite.

I have no dislike of dogs. I hate my allergy to being around them. It makes sense establishments like restaurants & bars should be as cognisant of this as much as they are about food allergies or at least warn people they admit dogs. People who have the allergy can then avoid their premises.
