Just seen on the news a baby is in hospital after being bitten by an xl bully. And two people have been arrested. Baby is in a serious condition. Why haven't these killer dogs been banned.

So registering the dog didn't save that baby from being attacked and seriously injured. Complete ban is called for.

Complete cull

A relative is quoted as saying "It is shocking. You see and hear about it all the time, but you don't actually think it is going to happen to your own family,"

And that's exactly it isn't it? They refuse to accept their dog could snap. No matter how many times they read about the same breed doing exactly that and the owners saying how lovely the dog was.

I do not understand what stops them from thinking hmm, if so many 'beloved family pets' of this breed could turn out of the blue, and kill someone, then mine could too.

But no, they instead choose to make ridiculous nanny dog and gentle nature claims and tell you how next door's chihuahua is far meaner...

Well yes, you undercooked Yorkshire pudding, that chihuahua may well be a gobshite but it's never going to rip a kid's face clean off now is it?

I've never heard the expression before but from now on it's going to be one of my favorites!

I absolutely adore dogs and have two of my own but I cannot abide these monsters. I think they should all be put down and no more allowed.

Revolting animals. And their humans are always rough as well.

I’m exactly the same. I love dogs, have always had them growing up and now have two Labradors. I will never understand choosing to get a dog like this, I don’t care what anyone says, the breed definitely matters.

It’s extremely irresponsible parenting to get a dog like this if you have kids. These dogs should never have been bred in the first place and a ban isn’t enough, they all need euthanised.

It won't work because the meatheads will just find another breed , they'll breed dangerous dogs and not care what happens .
All the prevention talk is about the dogs when in reality society should deal with these people with no social responsibility

These dogs are very much like their owners. Thick, aggressive, useless and frightening to others. I saw one of these monstrosities in the veterinary hospital when I was there with my cat. The owner looked exactly like the dog! Quite amazing really. I think this is why these meatheads are attracted to them. Someone should do a PhD on the psychology of these relationships. It's the very essence of antisocial behavior wrapped up in a dog.

OrlandointheWilderness · 12/12/2024 17:26

Are there figures on how many XL attacks there have been this year?

ForeveronMN · 12/12/2024 17:27

and of course everyone always says the dog was so lovely and it was so 'unexpected'.

Every single time.

It's impossible to tell because not all attacks are publicised, only the deaths or serious attacks, like this poor baby.

3luckystars · 12/12/2024 17:27

I met a man out walking one nearby and was absolutely blown away by the presence of it and how afraid I was. It was instinctive. I kept looking back over my shoulder for about 10 minutes afterwards. It was an absolute beast of an animal and I felt similar to if someone had an alligator on a lead walking past me.

What instincts are these people ignoring to allow these big dangerous dogs near them and their homes and near their children?

This is a feature of the breed apparently. Something to do with gaining advantage in a fight.

Lovely

Of course these low IQ owners couldn't possibly understand this concept and how it might actually go wrong in a domestic setting. Quite how these people manage to get dressed each morning and drive vehicles is amazing given how stupid they are.

Superworm24 · 12/12/2024 17:31

Sorry, I know this is from the daily mail! But it's completely shocked me. The dog had previous bit someone and still was allowed around that poor baby.
"Now, it has been revealed that Kent Police seized the same XL Bully in Hawkinge in November 2023 following a report that its owner had been bitten on the finger, causing a minor injury.A spokesperson for Kent Police said: 'The owner was asked to voluntarily surrender the dog to officers for destruction, but declined to do so. 'There were no legal grounds for officers to retain the dog in the circumstances, but the owner was asked to agree to accept the conditions of a police order which included keeping the dog secure and supervised.'"
"Hunter the dog and the baby got on so well. It's so out of character for the dog.
'It was so soppy. We used to think he was like Scooby Do! They used to get in the travel cot together. He would sniff the baby and wander off.'"

and to add my sis has one of these dogs (we are no contact) she has 3 primary school children. It’s her partner he’s a bully and has full control over her. so I guess she doesn’t have a say in this new dog.

Report to SS, it’s a safeguarding risk

Your sister’s partner is an xl bully? That’s a plot twist.

God,these things scare the hell out of me-I'm a massive dog lover but not this breed

Their eyes have no soul to them-anyone who puts one in the same house as a child needs ss to step in and take the child

Someone I know said that if this breed was human, they'd be a psychopath-i fully agree

I know someone with 3 dc under ten-she also has 3 of these dogs

'Wouldn't hurt a fly','lovely dogs' and 'the laws are a joke' (she's not wrong but not in the way she means)

She leaves them to 'babysit' while she fucks off to the loo and cook dinner

She also thinks we are all over reacting when she takes them for a walk without a muzzle and parents are over cautious when they refuse to walk in the local park with their young kids as its full of these dogs and their braindead owners

It's only a matter of time before she's in the papers herself, sobbing about her 'much loved xl dog,who loves her kids, killed one' (or more)

If you want to own one by yourself,go ahead (some people dont want to be in the gene pool) but dont drag one into living with young children

Report to SS

Report to SS

I would but I don't even know her name
She's a customer where I work-im praying someone has some sense in their heads (that do know her) and reports her
I mean one is bad enough, but 3 of these fickers?

The baby and the dog were 'peas in a pod' according to a family member who spoke to BBC. Whatever the fuck that means.

It means she let them snuggle up together & saw them as 2 identical sweet little babies.
Even though she knew the breed was dangerous:
"It is shocking. You see and hear about it all the time, but you don't actually think it is going to happen to your own family," she [the mother] said.

I think it's about time that families who allow their children to be with dangerous animals were prosecuted.

They usually are prosecuted. And XL bullies are being phased out. Within 8 years or so there won't be any left legally in this country. They can't be bred or rehomed. That at least is something. Although unfortunately there will always be idiots who replace them with similar dogs and still allow them around their babies.

Onceuponatime9 · 12/12/2024 17:39

Sadly when it comes to dogs of this type of breed people really do treat them as if they are like children, naughty but would never bite to kill. They do.

When 'the problems' are children being maimed or dying then I don't think it really matters how small a percentage it is and I'm genuinely surprised anyone could make that argument.

How many dead children is an OK number of dead children? Keep it under that amount and the breed's good to go, aye?

Sorry for my stupidity, but Where did this breed come from, does anyone know how they bred these huge beasts. What did they mix?

McNicey · 12/12/2024 17:45

If the baby pulls through, she should go straight for adoption.

Anyone who allows one of these fucking beastly things near a baby or child, let alone climb into a cot with them, isn't fit to be a parent.

I did read the Daily Fail article. The usual set up, usual council house, usual under class, semi literate comments 'like peas in a pod'.

I truly despair about this XL Bully crisis and the scum that seems to own them.

I was having a picnic once and a woman walked near us with the most enormous entire male dog i have ever seen. It was muzzled and she was with a child about 5 or so, a smallish toddler in a pram and a newborn in a sling on her chest. She was about 5 ft 2 and perhaps 7 stone. I'd never seen a dog like that before and said 'Gosh, he's impressive- what is he?' She replied he was a Cane Corso and she had to walk him in isolated places because he was other dog reactive.

I've since found out that Cane Corsos are the next red flag dog that may well be banned. Personally I thought I was looking at a tragedy waiting to happen. Any fucking muppet who thinks a strong and powerful pack animal bred specifically for aggression is a reasonable animal to have in a small family home with small children is insane.

My local RSPCA was offering a Cane Corso for adoption about 2 weeks ago. I was surprised to see that breed on the list.

Mrsbloggz · 12/12/2024 17:46

@bugalugs45
Rottweilers also need to be banned.
He's not a lad. It's a dog.
It's not prejudice, it's common sense to want these things eliminated.

They’re Italian guard dogs and they’ve been created like any other breed but probably quite an old breed. A lot of the ones over here are used by backyard breeders to make money because the pups can sell for thousands

while it’s usually scum, there are a fair few very middle class people who own them too. Like some sort of reverse snobbery thing.

The instagramer I mentioned, Emma Nicolet (I can mention her, she’s fame hungry with a very public account), has one. Treats the big, ugly thing like it’s a kitten, leaves it alone with her children.

She’s very vocal about how unfair people are about the bred, but keeps her trap shut when things like this happen.
