DM and I were discussing this last night, she's now in her Eighties and used to really like the Queen (not so much Phillip for some reason) but now really isn't bothered and thinks the RF, as is, should be abolished . I've always been a Republican but I was surprised at DM as she always seemed very pro RF but actually was pro the late Queen.

IMHO it seems so past it's sell by date but I'd be interested to know others opinions.

I find it very wrong and very bizarre. The sight of Louis with his arms full of selection boxes and toys was really quite distasteful. This is the son of a billionaire for goodness sake! (I am not blaming the child by the way, but we may as well leave gifts outside mansions in Kensington for all it means). There will be children out there who don't even get a bar of chocolate and yet he's being showered with gifts by lunatic royalists.

you seem to manage using the internet. A quick google will tell you that they keep next to nothing they are given on walk abouts. It gets donated.
don’t really honestly think they go back home and sit there in glee stuffing their faces with shit chocolate from selection boxes?

Why do people give them on the first place then?

Yeah... cut out the middle man (the royals) and give directly to a worthy cause. Makes sense to me.

Because they want to and like doing it.

what does it matter to you? It’s harmless

It’s far from harmless from the point of view of child protection.
What are their parents thinking of ? The Windsor children are fed into the PR machine from birth that’s true ( and wrong) but I expect the oddballs who turn up to the pap walk will shout their name , take photos etc. it’s v v odd. Isn’t Kate a self appointed expert on early years ? How does that fit with pimping out the children ?

Also what a bad look - no doubt flowers and tat being ‘gifted’ to the very billionaires who are bleeding the country dry.
This particular cringe fest does nothing to challenge image of royalists as being a bit dim …

Go and have a lie down, you seem very worked up

Ukisgaslit · 27/12/2024 14:20

Hmm
Any thoughts of your own @MimiSunshine?

Am I angry about the Windsors ripping off the NHS and the dead and charities ?
You better believe I am

The real question is ‘ why aren’t you?’

MimiSunshine · 27/12/2024 14:46

Nope, not a single one

I honestly think they will be beside themselves with excitement thinking 'Louis took my selection box!! He'll be eating that as soon as he gets home, I bet he won't eat his turkey now he's eaten my chcolate!!!'

Not dissimilar to people buying gifts/flowers for their favourite singer. Clamouring to give eg Stevie Nicks flowers (which were binned back stage)

Edited

All of those aren't given much traction in the Press. The BBC or The Telegraph/Times are unlikely to start trashing the whole RF.

Ukisgaslit · 27/12/2024 15:10

@Pedallleur It isn’t similar at all to giving to singers - singers etc have achieved something and they aren’t supported by the tax payer and they aren’t above the law etc

This year in particular with the scandal of the Duchys ripping off charities etc and the UK being in a perilous state economically seeing royalists desperate to hand more tat over is utterly cringeworthy .
That is aside for the more serious point of the exploitation of the children , which really is crass

Ukisgaslit · 27/12/2024 15:12

I’m not sure what your point is @Pedallleur re the BBC but they are known cheerleaders for the Windsors . They are in no way objective and many people abandoned the BBC years ago

Ukisgaslit · 27/12/2024 15:24

Although @Pedallleur the Times did work with Channel 4 to research the financial abuses in the Duchys and the illegal housing conditions etc . That surprised me !

TizerorFizz · 27/12/2024 17:49

@Notachristmaself If you “follow” someone because you admire them, the reason is often complicated. People follow film stars because they like to be seen near them or get a photo opportunity. The reason they know a film star is different but the behaviour towards them is the same. It’s just fandom for a different reason. I simply would not bother to turn out.

I did take some photos once of film stars leaving the Spirit Awards on Santa Monica beach front. We just were out walking around. The problem was, I didn’t know most of them. Dc did and they were impressed!

GreenClock · 27/12/2024 19:34

The people who bring presents and ask children for selfies are probably quite lonely, maybe a bit eccentric. Harmless, but I do wonder if one of them will try to grasp or kiss one of the children one day. Then, that will probably be the end of under-16s meeting the plebs.

Some of the bystanders will be locals who’ve walked over there I guess. They’re unlikely to be turning up with presents.

The Times insight team are excellent investigative journalists who take years painstakingly researching stories. Completely different from.their Royal Correspondents who write acres of boring sycophantic tedious drivel at the behest of the various Palace press offices.

Oldraver · 27/12/2024 20:21

Outmoded and need to be gone

Gilead · 27/12/2024 20:55

No, and the money used would be far better employed elsewhere. The king has a multi million pound business and the cheek to take from the civil list. The lot of them can fuck right off!

Credit to The Guardian journalists too.

I just wish the rest of the media were less bovine.

The Royal Correspondent is an entirely gruesome breed of correspondent!
