DM and I were discussing this last night, she's now in her Eighties and used to really like the Queen (not so much Phillip for some reason) but now really isn't bothered and thinks the RF, as is, should be abolished . I've always been a Republican but I was surprised at DM as she always seemed very pro RF but actually was pro the late Queen.

IMHO it seems so past it's sell by date but I'd be interested to know others opinions.

I don’t have a problem with unearned wealth. Most people buying homes end up with it. It doesn’t actually stop anyone doing well and many want to help dc out. All countries have pyramids of wealth! Have you looked at the rich in Nigeria or the USA or China? You are not going to find equality even in North Korea. So yes, everywhere has a pyramid of wealth. I’d just accept it and get on with earning your share.

Ukisgaslit · 15/12/2024 09:33

@TizerorFizz state assets they manage?
what do you mean?

The crown estate is already a state enterprise

The only eatates in question are the Duchys . Literally a medieval land grab . The Windsors do not manage them. They just pocket the untaxed profits

Ukisgaslit · 15/12/2024 09:36

@TizerorFizz we are talking about untaxed wealth not unearned wealth

unearned wealth is relevant only in that the Windsors grew rich from colonialism and if left to fend for themselves couldn’t run a corner shop

It is the untaxed aspect that is unacceptable

If their role is so crucial one wonders how other countries manage

Well it didn't stop the US becoming the most powerful country on the planet, did it ? Overtaking the previous incumbent who decided to roll the dice and keep their sponging parasites royal family.

A fair comparison of the position the monarch lies in with relation to the country would be like someone who has the clap. We weren't asked and seem to be expected to live with it.

And I would add - remove all their wealth and properties and provide them with the same remuneration as a HOS of any comparable country - and I would accept Charles Windsor as HOS

Your problem is, would the Windsors continue their ‘god given ‘ role ( that’s what a coronation is ) in those circumstances ?

If we went for an election model, the Windsors would be able to stand for the position.

GretchenWienersHair · 15/12/2024 10:22

No.

Extiainoiapeial · 15/12/2024 10:23

Jamaica has tabled a bill to remove Charles as HoS and to become a republic. I suspect this might be a domino effect....

In the Caribbean, four of the 12 former colonies have transitioned to republicanism: Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominica and most recently Barbados. In recent times, the region has seen a shift in public reaction to British monarchs, with royals facing protests and demands for an apology for the horrors of transatlantic slavery when they visit Caribbean countries

Ukisgaslit · 15/12/2024 10:28

@UndeniablyGenX Yes I like that idea too.

I was not 100 % sincere re letting a Windsor run on but I think it could help the severely brain washed cope with the change.
Having all the laws of the land apply and no more secret deals would go a very long way. But I agree that the automatic assumption of HOS role is still a great problem

I see no response has been made to my question about Andrew . ( I don’t blame @TizerorFizz for ignoring that question there really is no rebuttal is there) Our so called wonderful constitutional monarchy also allows the kings brother to invite spies into their palaces . seems to be a habit - remember the Nazi king we nearly had ?

Are they mad ?! How on earth could they possibly want to end this ...

Extiainoiapeial · 15/12/2024 10:39

Our so called wonderful constitutional monarchy also allows the kings brother to invite spies into their palaces

And perverts, sex offenders and paedophiles! Weinstein, Maxwell and Epstein all attended a party and the latter two were all over Balmoral and Sandringham as well as BP many times

Ukisgaslit · 15/12/2024 19:22

Upthread someone said that the fact that the Windsors don’t pay tax, and for William has reversed his fathers practice and won’t allow even a partial look at his accounts , etc etc was in fact the fault of politicans .

And it is to some extent . Pressure will build as more and more people wake up to the reality of what we are expected to tolerate and hopefully reform will come .

But that is still such a bullshit answer. Here are the Windsors , still insisting on a multimillion pound coronation ( no other European monarchy has done this for at least a century ) setting themselves literally above the law - they should be open and transparent and setting the highest of standards .Yet look at what they do in secret - rob the dead, rip off the NHS, pretext sex traffickers and paedophiles .
They represent the worst of our society . And we let them .

Look at Andrew and the Chinese spies. Royalists will hand wring oh what will Charles do ? Poor Charles - should he - gasp- stop Andrew wearing his velvet curtains?
What the hell ? He should hand him to the authorities to be questioned and face charges .

He whole lot of them are in it for what they can take - William is slumlord and has the audacity to think that taking a few photos with the homeless will do to distract the plebs from his billions
How much longer are we going to tolerate these abuses ?

The UK is a poor country now - we need that money . But the point is the Windsors should want to give it .

Extiainoiapeial · 15/12/2024 21:36

I have no idea how much longer we are going to put up with it...decades no doubt, and no changes in my or my children's lifetimes

I just cannot get my head round what royalists think of the monarchy, what they actually bring to their lives, if it's obvious you can still have your ceremonies, pomp and marching bands, all you're missing is gold carriages and posh clothes. You'll never see them in the flesh (highly unlikely) so what is it....
I find it so bizarre

They cost us millions and millions, (we don't know half of it), they are money grabbing and often behave abominably, they are a dysfunctional family despite trying to convince us otherwise through a media that uses you for click bait, so what is the attraction

SerendipityJane · 16/12/2024 09:25

Some people just like being labelled and treated as inferior. Reminds me of that kid who was bullied but insisted that actually it was a privilege having your head flushed down the bog.

Ukisgaslit · 16/12/2024 11:59

Re Andrew - what does he know that has Charles shaking in his boots ?

We know the ‘ Charles will kick him out ‘ line is trotted out every time the royals get bad publicity . Never happens of course .

Now apparently Charles is begging Andrew not to ‘walk’ to church at Christmas , because you know he’s head of the CoE and has standards , lol . Talk about whitened sepulchres.

Andrew has been bringing spies into Windsor , Kensington ans Buckingham palace for a decade ? And all that happens is Charles will beg him not to do the hypocritical pap walk for the remaining brain dead sycophants?
A civil servant would be in custody by now if they had done the same .
The more we learn about what the Windsors do , the worse the UK looks for tolerating this corrupt dysfunctional ‘family’

Havalona · 16/12/2024 12:53

I mean, what normal person parades themselves on their way to church, and limply shakes a hand here and there, or gives a floppy wave to the onlookers, and smiles through gritted teeth at the kids.

Honestly it is amusing to me. I'd say they are either mortified by duty, or so superior that they think the whole country actually gives a shit.

What I can’t fathom is what kind of first class loon goes to gawp and wave at them leaving church.

Pretty much annually, someone asks how to stand outside the Sandringham church to curtsey, wave or gawp, or whatever it is one does. And gets detailed replies about timings, parking and how best to catch the royal eye (I believe ‘being in a wheelchair’, ‘carrying a cute small child’ and ‘offering flowers’ were suggested.

Well if you have nothing else going on in your inferior life, you can pretend it's some sort of patriotism.

Dr. Johnson had a view on that which has never been bettered in the centuries since ....

Wow how vile are the last few posts on here.

There was a lady on here a few months ago who has a terminal illness and on her bucket list she wanted to greet the royals as they attended church on Christmas Day. Now if that brings happiness to that lady or to anyone else who wants to see the royals who are any of you to make condescending sneering comments.

It says more about the type of people you are than anything else.

VisitationRights · 16/12/2024 16:30

RF is a ridiculous institution, they are a drain on public finances and the ultimate scrounges.

The thing I dont understand are the people who buy presents for the children. All that will happen is those presents will get chucked into the back of a car and driven down to the local children's hospital/charity shop. There is a children's hospice in East Anglia that Kate is a patron of. So rather than spend a few quid giving a present to a seriously and sometimes terminally ill child for them to open on Christmas day, you stand outside Sandringham to hand presents to some of the most overprivileged kids in the country, so that some other kids will get them not on Christmas day but a few days after, and knowing they weren't intended for them but that they were things that weren't good enough for Princess Charlotte!
