There are sooo many now, I follow a few, attending premieres, being gifted all sorts. I wondered if anyone knows any- school mums, friends, acquaintances and what they're like? (Dont have to specify who!). Are they always on their phones? Do they seem happy? I cant imagine documenting all my life it's exhausting enough just living it!

There’s one on Instagram who has recently been sent a letter to her home which says the writer knows where she lives, where her kids go to school, the layout of her home, where she has her nails done etc. I’m sure this must have been really unsettling for her but the ‘influencer’ and hundreds of others doing exactly the same are up in arms about it. But the thing is she is the one that has shared this information. She hasn’t hidden this information to protect herself, her wife or their children. A new house - complete house tour! They plaster every single details of their homes, their whole lives online for literally anyone to see. I’m not defending the person who sent the letter but surely those putting all of this information online need to take some accountability when they attract this kind of attention.

Wow. victim blaming much? “Well she wore a short skirt” “well she went out at night”. See the similarity here?

VegTrug · 12/12/2024 20:47

Nope. I don’t even put photos of my child on social media so I don’t think our views etc would align even if I did meet one.
The only kind of ‘influencer’ I know used to be one of the original make up tutorial girls on YouTube many years ago and became quite famous. However she came off YouTube altogether shortly after having her second child and never showed either of them on camera. She’s absolutely lovely but comes from a farrrr wealthier background than me and is much younger so not much in common. I did used to be a subscriber for years so imagine my surprise when her son was in my child’s class!

That’s not victim blaming and that’s a MASSIVE leap to compare those two things. Pointing out that this woman put all identifying details online (which is advised against by everyone including police) so PP wasn’t surprised when the inevitable happened, is not the same thing! 🤣

Yes- one for make up and lifestyle and now has set up a channel for her six year old.

all these posts of look at me in the sunshine when you saw her ten minutes ago in the playground at pick up make up free and looking very grumpy in the rain.

Victim blaming? Ffs get over yourself. This woman literally puts every single detail of her life on Instagram. I know her kids names, their school, and I've seen their rooms.

This is also the same influencer who put a pic on of her babies feet and has left it there despite it having millions of views and saves. She is doing NOTHING to protect her kids privacy. Not even the bare minimum.

Also, I'm not even entirely convinced that she didn't send the letter to herself for 'engagement'.

This woman is no victim.

JMAngel1 · 12/12/2024 20:55

I’d love to know what Emily Norris is really like. She comes across so lovely and her house is insane and she has so much patience with her kids, a strong work ethic and seems truly in love with her husband.

Would love to know what’s really going on 😂

The “Cotswolds” sends me and my friends into hysterics - and her fake accent! It’s all just so false. But honestly, I wish more people knew about the teacher stuff, it turns my stomach seeing him in family adverts they do. I hope one day she wakes up to what happened to her and snaps out of it, but I imagine there’s too much money at play in being a picture perfect Mum.

You're right about there being too much money. Since he doesn't work, and she prances around on insta for a living, it's incredible that they can afford that house between them!

Superworm24 · 12/12/2024 21:06

One of the girls on my due date group is. I don't know her in real life though. She seems lovely, surely they can't all be vile and vapid?

Blinky21 · 12/12/2024 21:07

Yes but I have muted her on social media. In real life she is lovely and humble but the social posts make me cringe

Posted above about a former neighbour but thanks to this thread I've gone down a rabbit hole of stalking her, mostly just images as i don't want to download apps. OMG she is even more full of shit than last time. I wonder what her family make of it, they are very normal and rural, and her Dh has a high profile job but is a sensible quiet type, a farmer's son. I can't imagine him being ok with her sharing everything about herself. Maybe he is. Her kids are secondary now, I wonder how they feel about it.

One thing I found down my rabbit hole earlier was a chat forum of some sort with chats about this woman and another influencer I hadn't heard of. It seems the purpose of the chat group was to take the piss out of them. Comments like 'did you see this mornings picture, she looks really skinny' which I think is fair enough if you post your life online. Thing is they were commenting on her family too. There was one saying someone saw her DH in Tesco and he isn't ageing well, another saying they saw her teenage DD wearing X school uniform, comments on what way she parked her car or what she was eating or drinking in a cafe. I think it was all in jest but it's quite scary to think of how exposed they all are now.

YearsofYears · 12/12/2024 21:19

There's one at our school gates. I didn't know about her until someone told me about her job. She's beautiful, glam and very successful. Seems friendly in passing. Refreshing really.

Dontknowwhattocall13893 · 12/12/2024 21:23

Yes unfortunately.
I feel bad for her kids with the type of things she shares.

Busby88 · 12/12/2024 21:32

Know someone who has since become a mum influencer. Don’t speak to her anymore as she moved away and we weren’t that close anyway. But her Instagram presence is so SO different to how she was in real life, she was absolutely insufferable on their when pregnant and yet still I followed out of morbid curiosity.

AngelinaFibres · 12/12/2024 21:38

Yes I know one who does lots of 'My beautiful
brain' type stuff and yoga videos. She's outwardly all about zen and calm and healthy minds. In reality both her children have struggled with the chaos of her parenting and are under the CAHMs service. Her house is absolutely filthy and her garden is a tip. The cat died in the garden and wasn't found for 6 months. Her husband is an absolute waste of space.

PrincessPeache · 12/12/2024 21:39

Yes I’ve met one through her ‘influencing’ and she was a bit bland tbh. We are both “well known” in quite a niche parenting area (I’m not any sort of influencer and have about 1,000 followers which is bugger all and exactly how I like it 😂) and live fairly locally, and since our children are the same age she asked to organise a play date - we had shared advice etc for a few years so wasn’t completely out of the blue! She was nice enough and her daughter was lovely but there wasn’t any spark of friendship between us so I left it there. She now does TikTok’s and has started posting her ‘weight loss journey’ on mounjaro and I just find myself cringing every time I see one of her videos. Lots lately basically begging brands to work with her 😬

SouthernFashionista · 12/12/2024 21:43

I actively avoid all that nonsense. It’s all smoke and mirrors. Look at the dire Mother Pukka 🙄🙄🙄 and her ridiculous carry on. I recently came across a dolly bird owner of a PR company in Ireland who documents every moment of her life - the poor child is little more than an accessory. Various people I know follow her. I can’t be dealing with the vacuous nonsense though. It’s unbearable.

QueSyrahSyrah · 12/12/2024 21:45

Not a Mumfluencer but a friend has about 250k followers across Instagram and TikTok and is currently making more from that than from her real life career. She deserves it though, she's lovely. She shares quite a lot of her life but far from everything.

Chipsahoy · 12/12/2024 20:46

Wow. victim blaming much? “Well she wore a short skirt” “well she went out at night”. See the similarity here?

but, currently, what is the influencer a "victim" of?

Being sent a letter saying that the writer was aware of information said influencer had publicly disclosed herself? The poster didn't say that the letter threatened anything.

If her house, for example had been broken into or a kidnap attempt made on her children, then she would be the victim of a crime/attempted crime, and yes blaming her for it might be unpleasant (albeit still understandable that she might want to consider how much information she shares online to reduce the chances of it happening again - the police would give exactly the same warning while still investigating said crime). But sending someone a letter isn't a crime, therefore she isn't a victim.

FrannyScraps · 12/12/2024 13:05

I do, she's been on good morning Britain and some radio shows for parenting debate style interviews. I don't know her well but have chatted in the school playground (not about that, we actually spoke about my job).

I wonder if we know the same one (HM?). Either way I was at school with her. She was a dreadful bully but now talks about how SHE was bullied at school. That's not how I remember it.

Allswellthatendswelll · 12/12/2024 22:17

No but I can't stand most of them. It mainly seems to be violating your children's privacy to shill random tat and giving dodgy advice based on nothing but having a few kids.

The one's who share pictures of their children being ill or up in the night upset just make me so sad. How can that be your first instinct- to reach for your phone?

Also the ones who complain constantly about parenting. Yes parenting can be hard but you choose it and you are now choosing to post about it on the Internet to a bunch of strangers for validation.

There are a few who don't show their kids faces, or share private info and don't do ads and/or who actually have something interesting to say that I don't mind.

KindLemur · 12/12/2024 22:24

I know one with about 5 thousand followers and she is quite ambitious, she does one day a week at my work but is hoping to focus on influencing full time if she gets to about 10k followers

  • yes she goes and checks her phone often and makes sure scheduled posts go up when they should etc
  • she spends hours commenting on other people’s posts and networking and meeting up with other influencers and they all promote each other
  • she gets sent lots of free stuff but she does feel pressured to do good posts and reels in return, sometimes she doesn’t like the products and does sort of lie about it
  • sometimes she really likes stuff she is sent like kids clothes, car seats, bikes and is really grateful for it but she doesn’t always use stuff again after reviewing and posting about it
  • has a cleaner so her house is always ready for stories/pics/reels but keeps her own bedroom and one other room show ready and doesn’t show other parts of the house
  • you really do only see a snippet of her life she has her mum round most of the time helping with her kids etc and she doesn’t show this
  • is a genuinely nice bubbly person who can get quite upset if she doesn’t get good comments

basically it seems exhausting to me and not worth the free stuff but if you make it big on there you’re set for life so I can see why she does it

spinspinspinthewheel · 12/12/2024 22:39

Yes! I live very near to one and we have a lot of mutual friends. Can we say who? We are from Birmingham. A mummy with 2 kids.

her kids are older now and she is going downhill fast from lack of content. But it’s shocking how much she puts out online about them. No one in our friends circles can stand her because of how she is with putting the kids online - their bedrooms, contents of the drawers! They have now privacy at all. They are in secondary school now, we all feel so sorry for them.

Also because she’s become a shell of herself. She only does ads, shopping hauls and woe is me posts/how amazing my life is posts.

Everyone else we know is becoming more eco friendly and reusing/ recycling / shopping vintage and second hand. Avoiding shops with fast fashion and crap destined for landfill if possible. She shops for clothes and tat multiple times a week and she doesn’t need any of it. She does the same shops all the time. .

everyone is very tired of her bullshit. She has nothing to talk about and is obsessed by likes and comments on strangers and she’s never without her phone.

She doesn’t post actual life things any more that’s where it’s gone wrong for her we all think. She’s only posting what people tell her they like so it’s like an ever decreasing circle and very repetitive but she’s stuck on this weird spiral of desperation for likes.

influencers are strange people. I think they are desperate to be liked and get obsessed with the money.

although of if I was offered tens of thousands of pounds a month for doing very little … I bet I’d get off my high horse bloody quickly! That would solve a lot of my problems. I’m definitely slightly jealous but also wouldn’t trade places for the world.

Haribosweets · 12/12/2024 22:43

I know of one mum (acquaintance) who is a tik tok influencer and gets lots of gifts to promote and sell. She is always on her phone and does 3-4 videos a day. A couple from one of the 90 day fiance series now have socials live a couple streets away from me.

TheBunyip · 12/12/2024 23:24

Even the “she doesn’t show their face” ones bother me. Your child is a lot more than just their face. And we’re still seeing all that. You’re still utilising their presence to advertise products, you’re still documenting their life and lifestyle. Your work is still seeping into their childhood. I think not showing a face is a really really low bar. And they are still recognisable (if you were inclined to pay attention) through the billion other elements connected to them that you DO show.
