Would it be bad if I asked my 3 oldest, to give me 15.00 each towards the Xmas food shop. And ask them to pay for the alcohol. As I don't drink.

I'm struggling a bit this year . Not to a massive extent. But a bit of help would be nice. I feel bad though because they are my kids.

Sounds very lovely and posh. Ours will be dinner on laps on the sofa. Cheap crackers and random sweets /chocolate/cakes ect most likely from Iceland. The older ones will be drinking. I will have soft drinks with the younger ones . We will probably play song quize. Couple of other Easy fun games.

Definitely not posh but I just try make my own bits and make it personal for everyone, I love hosting, its got smaller over the years though as we don't have my in laws or grandparents around anymore. Most important thing is everyone being there which is why I can't understand peoples attitude about everyone contributing. We love games, we always play Articulate and stuff like House of Games, this year we have bought Outsmarted so looking forward to that.

I was thinking of you yesterday OP when I was reading an article in the Telegraph which said that a recent survey shows that 27% of people are asking for a financial contribution to the cost of hosting Christmas and that the average contribution is £17. So, ignore the nay-sayers, there's absolutely nothing wrong with others sharing the financial burden and over a quarter of the population are doing so! 😃 Have a FAB Christmas! 🎄

Thank you. They were fine with it when I asked . Ds said he also wants to get some breakfast stuff and do us all a breakfast.

I think Xmas will be nice this year since I'm trying to do it in more of a relaxed manner. It is a shame my ds is working over Xmas he needs to leave about 2.30pm so we get sometime its still not nice though then he's spending boxing day on his own until he's got work again 😢

I'm glad this has worked out so well for you OP. Merry Christmas!

AngelicKaty · 15/12/2024 09:35

Yes, it is a shame that not everyone can have at least Christmas day off work, but hopefully, if he's been rostered to work it this year, he'll get the full day off next year. 🤞 Have a wonderful time!🎄

Yeah it was fine. I was just over thinking because I'm not used to asking. Happy Christmas 🎄

Oh, good news, OP. I hope you have a lovely day.

It cost a lot even for a modest Christmas dinner. You can't judge someone for asking for advice. Christmas is one day she needs to enjoy it too. Not thinking about the mound of debt !

Buttercup198 · 17/12/2024 01:24

No it's not unreasonable their adults either way not children tell them contribute

Normal for people to contribute
