How often do you wear make-up? Poll

noblegiraffe · 27/11/2024 09:32

Having a chat with a group of friends I was surprised at how many of them said they never wore make-up or only special occasions, and not to work. I assumed that not wearing make-up was quite rare, so I’m interested in a wider sample to see if my friends are odd! It’s hard to come up with every option so please pick the closest answer.

I’m interested in answers from women so if you’re male and want to see poll answers please click the male option!

I never wear make up beyond the very rare occasion I put some mascara on. It looks weird on me and I'm pretty rubbish at applying it too!

2chocolateoranges · 27/11/2024 09:33

I only wear make up if going on a night out.

don’t wear it for work or general day to day.

SprinkleCake · 27/11/2024 09:34

I wear make up every single day. It’s part of my routine and takes 10 minutes.

Don't have any

LoafofSellotape · 27/11/2024 09:35

Every day, takes 5 mins if that and I just see it as part of getting dressed.

Allnewtometoo · 27/11/2024 09:36

I wear a small amount most days. Not that you'd notice 😂 a tinted moisturiser to even my skin tone, and mascara because my lashes are short and hopeless. I'm late 40's though, didn't wear any in my 20s

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 27/11/2024 09:36

I wear mascara and I fill in my brows most days.

I rarely bother with foundation anymore.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/11/2024 09:37

I made a few half-hearted attempts to learn how to apply make up in my teens and 20s but stopped bothering as I hate it and was never happy with the results. It wasn't expected in any of my workplaces, both private and public sector, fortunately. Have never regretted this for a second. I must have saved a small fortune over the years, and a lot of time. (I'm 63 now.)

Springysprang · 27/11/2024 09:38

Whenever I say I don’t wear makeup at all, not even to work, there’s always someone who turns around and says “Ah, but I bet you don’t do a customer-facing job, do you”. So I’d just like to point out that yes, I do indeed do a customer-facing job, one in which I’m required to look presentable.

henlake7 · 27/11/2024 09:40

Id say most days. Makes me feel put together.
Only day I dont bother is saturday coz I spend the morning pampering myself with facemasks and hair treatments!

WeirdAndUnusual · 27/11/2024 09:43

Never, I’ve worn it once, at the school leavers ball many years ago and never since, hated the texture, hated the faff and just cba.

Yes, you must have saved so much money - and time!

I wear make-up but I don’t think I look like I wear make-up, just that I look actually dead if I don’t.

I clicked special outings. I think I have worn makeup four times this year and once was my wedding.
I also have a customer facing role and never wear it to work.

Alwaysindependentlyopinionated · 27/11/2024 09:48

I wear makeup every day and have done for many years. But it's very minimal make up.
I really admire women who are self confident enough not to feel the need to wear make up.
I must say I find the current trend for so many women to make themselves up to look like dolls quite disturbing. Eradicates individuality and personality and is really dehumanising.

Dreamsfallapartattheseams · 27/11/2024 09:50

I always wore a full face of make up and had my nails done recently but since being in perimenopause I've kind of given up.
I wear tinted moisturizer and mascara every day but that's about it.
I really CBA anymore.

Edingril · 27/11/2024 09:50

I don't own any

Isitfridayyetsophie · 27/11/2024 09:56

Generally daily, if there’s a day where I’m just at home with family and not planning on going out I’ll just do my usual skincare in the morning with no make up. I’d say that’s maybe once every 2 weeks or so without.

LimeYellow · 27/11/2024 10:00

Nice to see the results of the poll split pretty evenly between the four categories. It's good to know that women can do what they like and not feel judged.

OliviaRodrighost · 27/11/2024 10:03

I didn’t pick an option. I wear makeup to work and to special occasions (weddings, Christmas Day, birthday dinner out).

Not to the supermarket, local cafe, shopping, friends’ houses, etc.

But even then it’s just tinted moisturiser, concealer, powder, brow gel and mascara.

FlowersOfSulphur · 27/11/2024 10:03

I ticked "Special outings" as that's closest, but actually I wear it more than this would imply but less than "Usually when leaving the house". I wear make up on Special Outings and for work (I'm part time), but not for walking the dog, going to the supermarket etc.

My eyelashes are short and sparse now and my skin is deveoping lines, so I do look better with make up, but I can't really be bothered to wear it every day nowadays!

Tealeavesinthecup · 27/11/2024 10:10

Once a week on average .

DebtinVegas · 27/11/2024 10:30

Every day.
Foundation mixed with serum, pink lipstick and lip balm, green eyeshadow and a tiny bit of green eye liner and a few strokes with a blonde micro tip brow pencil (to fill in bald patches in brows), powder on my nose. Sometimes green mascara.

Trickedbyadoughnut · 27/11/2024 10:35

I wear pretty light make-up for myoffice days and lunch/drinks/dinner, but not usually otherwise. And by that, it's CC or BB cream and some mascara and brow pencil.

Otherwise, I fit dog-walking, exercise and horse-riding around the working day, so I often end up having a shower at odd times of day. So seems a bit pointless.

I just go with looking dead, cannot be arsed, I don't have the energy.

I wear it maybe once every two years..wedding or interview.

WalterdelaMare · 27/11/2024 10:36

If I’m going to work in the office or going out, I wear makeup. So about 4x a week.

I really love makeup and enjoy putting it on.

I look OK without it as I have dark lashes and eyebrows, but infinitely better with it.
