How often do you wear make-up? Poll

Having a chat with a group of friends I was surprised at how many of them said they never wore make-up or only special occasions, and not to work. I assumed that not wearing make-up was quite rare, so I’m interested in a wider sample to see if my friends are odd! It’s hard to come up with every option so please pick the closest answer.

I’m interested in answers from women so if you’re male and want to see poll answers please click the male option!

I do wish I would wake up one morning in a world where makeup isn’t a thing. Or where the sex roles are reversed. Never heard of a man being described as “looking dead” just for daring to show their bare face to the world. Yet I feel that way, that I look lesser, and shit and unhealthy and tired with my normal human face.

Ojlaurv · 27/11/2024 10:39

Almost everyday, I wear concealer under my eyes, powder bronzer and blush, a pinky nude lipstick and sometimes mascara. When I’m going out to a bar/date night/concert/special event I sometimes also wear false eyelashes and eyeliner. When I’m just at home I will usually just wear my lipstick (I have smallish lips that are very pale so I like to wear something on them, I think it makes me look 100x better). I never usually wear eyeshadow as I have smallish eyes too and I think it can make them appear smaller sometimes so I usually don’t bother. I never wear anything on my eyebrows as they are already dark brown and quite thick, I shape them with an eyebrow razor, but they are thick enough that I don’t need anything on them or I risk looking a little crazy.

Less than 10 times in my entire life, I'm mid 50s.
Don't have a 'face' routine either.

Do you also wish people could only get basic hair cuts with no option to dye it and wear plain clothes and shoes?

No.

I think I'm probably a bit odd (in a good many ways, actually) but I actually couldn't tell you now which of the women I know wear makeup habitually. It's just not something I notice. It may well be that others who know me have clocked that I never wear it and are judging my appearance and my character accordingly. That's on them. In this one respect I seem to be far more like the average man. I couldn't care less what other people think about my appearance. As long as I'm clean and tidy and appropriately dressed for the weather and the occasion I feel fine.

Are you me????

namechangeGOT · 27/11/2024 10:51

Every single day. I love buying it, I love trying new stuff, I love putting it on and I love my face with it on. I will never not wear it!

It's good to know I'm not unique!

Never wear any at all and never have

You sound incredibly well balanced.

Houseplanter · 27/11/2024 10:56

Every day. Have become more interested in skincare and make up as I've got older.
More time, money and the refusal to give up on myself.

Skepticgal · 27/11/2024 10:58

Also don't do skin care. Except for sun screen in summer. I think I look exactly my age, not younger not older. I guess I would possibly look younger if I made an effort, but I just couldn't be bothered. Just keeping myself clean is enough work for me!

helpfulperson · 27/11/2024 11:01

Never.

I only wear make up if going on a night out.

don’t wear it for work or general day to day.

Same as this, or if we go out for dinner in the evening.

GreenMarigold · 27/11/2024 11:03

I sometimes throw on some tinted moisturiser if I’m leaving the house but only wear eye make up, lipstick etc on special occasions / big work meetings - maybe every couple of months.

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 27/11/2024 11:05

I wear mascara everyday and slap a bit of blush on when I remember too, but nothing else. I might put a bit of foundation and eyeshadow on if going to a wedding or "fancy" night out (which doesn't happen very often!)

ExpertlyDecorated · 27/11/2024 11:07

I votes daily, but that's only brows and mascara, maybe a bit of eyeshadow crayon, I wear tinted moisturiser and lipstick a few times a year for special occasions.

KoalaCalledKevin · 27/11/2024 11:09

I do my eyes every day - little bit of concealer on my horrible dark circles underneath them, mascara, pencil eyeliner.

Don't really ever wear any other make up, maybe some eyeshadow and lipstick for a special occasion.

Devilsmommy · 27/11/2024 11:12

Don't wear make up at all. Really can't be arsed😂

Frith2013 · 27/11/2024 11:14

I never have.

Some people wear so much foundation they look green tinged!

Augustus40 · 27/11/2024 11:14

I wear every day. I do have the occasional day off at the weekend but my skin is dry the next day then.

My family would probably fall about laughing at that! I think a big factor is that I married very young and my husband couldn't care less about this kind of thing. We've never been party animals either so there hasn't really been the pressure to conform to fit in with other women in our social circle.

TinDogTavern · 27/11/2024 11:23

Weddings. That's about it. I'm shit at putting it on and I CBA.

HappySquid · 27/11/2024 11:35

I wear a very minimal but most days - tinted sunscreen, mascara and brow gel - and then if were you somewhere I might add eyeshadow and lipstick, so even then not a lot. The aim is to just look like myself but the best/healthiest version.

I used to live abroad in a country where the norm was a LOT of makeup and grooming - think full face of makeup, big/styled hair, full manicure, very dressy clothes etc. I was pretty understated compared to most of my colleagues but got used to it surprisingly quickly. Was always (pleasantly) surprised by how many people in the London office wore none at all when I had to do trips back.
