Petition to Call a General Election

A Petition to call a General Election is currently running, and I've never seen one signed by so many in such a short space of time. Clearly there are a lot of unhappy people in the UK - to put it mildly.

leftfootinletfootout · 24/11/2024 20:39

And if they get a new government and don't like them , what then ? Another petition ? And another, and another ???

yep, they want democracy but only when they suddenly get the one they want instead, at a guess how many people we mislead by the general media instead of the actual politician's etc

If you voted Labour would you vote them in again. Genuine question. Not goady, just wondering if people would change their minds knowing what we've seen thus far.

It's just Reform & Tory voters.

How can they tell that? Votes are anonymous, and the petition I presume doesn't show names of the people on it either.

I could produce a similar graph claiming that there was a correlation between people signing that and people who hate fireworks, or people signing that and people who voted leaving a dog outside the polling booth, but it would have no basis in truth.

Edited

Yes I would vote for them again.
Labour haven’t got everything right so far however they’re putting a lot of good things in place, which will take time. The problem is, people think everything has to be solved instantly, well that isn’t going to happen after 14 years of Tory disaster.

You believe what you want.
I disagree completely, but that’s my considered opinion.

It’s got nothing to do with ‘belief’, it’s a true account of the financial crash of 2008 and the government’s handling of it.

I choose listen to people like Paul Krugman, who are world leaders in their field, rather than people like Nigel Farage, who are grifters. I don’t ‘believe’ anything, I listen to people and decide who is the most credible.

So you think the current government is competent to be in charge for the next 5years? I disagree.
They are not sticking to manifesto promises. So they are lying bastards like most politicians! Point proven!!!!

He also sold half our gold at stupid prices. Refused a referendum on EU/free movement.
You may too young to remember the shambles he left in his wake

You believe most politicians are liars, so who do you think should run the country?

BarkLife · 24/11/2024 21:37

@MMOC

How condescending! My dad took me canvassing in my buggy during the 1983 General Election!!!

Mum2jenny · 24/11/2024 21:41

I’d prefer politicians to do what they say in their manifesto, but when they don’t and lie, I lose all respect for them and their party.

How long would you give them? Weeks? Months? A parliamentary term?

I prefer Labour to the Tories in the same way that I prefer Remain to Leave i.e. on balance, one aligns more closely with my values than the other. Point scoring is why we get into a pickle.

Why the fuck did so many people vote Labour then? Starmer will cling on to power like they all do and just ignore the petition until people find something else to talk about.

mumda · 24/11/2024 22:15

How many signatures now?

I don't see them growing the economy any time soon. Petitions yes but economy no.

As if most of the people who have signed voted Labour in the first place.

I can't stand all the people on X saying how "Labour have lost our confidence" who clearly didn't even vote for Labour. They never were confident in the first place so it's hardly surprising that they are signing this petition.

After the Brexit referendum about 6 million people signed a similar petition and nothing happened because we live in a democracy...

What manifesto promises have they not stuck to? I posted the fact check on this earlier.
