33 for me, brought on double cassette from good old Woolies.

I know they are viewed by many as being deeply uncool but individual albums were way too expensive for me as a pre-teen. I think they featured on all my teen Xmas lists too and I remember the adverts with Mark Goodier doing the voice over.

I still have a very soft spot for them, even though when I occasionally pick one up for a nosy at I have no idea who 99% of the tracklists are, but I don't think I'm their target audience anymore anyway!

Somewhere round about 40. Absolute bangers looking at the track listings, although interspersed with some 'indie' songs that I didn't appreciate in those days and would always skip!

I was obsessed with Stranded by Lutricia McNeal!

Omg I loved that song! Haven’t heard it in years!

PrimitivePerson · 23/11/2024 22:19

I had a couple of the rival Hits albums in my teens, but none of the Nows. However, now I have a record player again and am building up a collection of stuff I like, I've picked a few up in charity shops, and the plan is to try and get as many as I can if I find them at decent prices. I currently have Now 5 and 8, and Hits 3, 4 and 7. There's a few turkeys on each one, but generally they're good selections, and I'll put them on if I want undemanding background music while I'm working.

Back21970 · 23/11/2024 22:20

The original on cassette - maybe in 1983.

Wish I still had it! Think I threw out all my cassettes way back.

I only stopped buying them about 10 years ago.

travellinglighter · 23/11/2024 22:20

Now that’s what I call music on cassette. My mum took me for an assessment to see if I could climb poles before starting as an apprentice linesman. Passed it and was given a fiver for expenses. Tried to give it my Mum, she said I could keep it and I bought the cassette.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 23/11/2024 22:21

Wow, I'd forgotten about them. I've just googled and I had from number three onwards for a few years. It's really taken me back seeing the covers...

I think mine was Now 44, with Britney Spears hit me baby one more time on it! Pretty sure Shania Twain was track 2 ! I used to love the now albums but generally found disc 2 not as good

@Isitfridayyetsophie my first was now 44 too 😍

Omg Atlantic 252! I remember it being the station to listen to!

The sound quality was crap, but the playlist was good. There was a dodgy station on in my area as well called Hits FM, it played more or less constant chart music without annoying DJs, but the ads were all for those monstrously expensive soft-porn 0898 phone lines...

I still have my original 33 double cassette. It felt like such a rite of passage buying it that I couldn't part with it.

I can't remember but think it must have been one in the 20s. My parents had Now 3 on vinyl!

I just looked up Boyzlife and if I didn't know then I would probably assume they were a tribute act because they both look very different now (mind you so do I, so no shaming here!).

For reference the best I ever heard was Amy Housewine in a bar in Corfu.

🤣🤣🤣 Brilliant. Simple but effective!!

33 was great, it had masses of britpop acts on it and some utterly crazy randomness to balance it out.

That was my first and indeed my first modern music purchase - also from Woolworths.

Now8 - Christmas’86 on double cassette

Me too! Also got a baby blue mini boom box to play it on.

Username12284949 · 23/11/2024 22:58

44 I remember it had a purple cover and can remember a lot of the songs (Alice Deejay Back in My Life has been a favourite since I discovered it on that CD). I then went on to steal my mums album which was an older one 41 I think which had Sex on the Beach on it. After 44 I got the album for Xmas most years the only other one I remember was 48 which was blue and yellow I think but can’t remember any songs. Now 44 got played on repeat for ages as it was my first ever CD.

SabreIsMyFave · 23/11/2024 23:00

The First One.

Now That's What I Call Music. Smile On vinyl. Indeed, I have the first 21 on vinyl. Bought them on CD thereafter. Stopped at 75.

I also used to buy The Hits Albums. They only went to about No. 10 though I think.

.

Robotnik · 23/11/2024 23:00

Mine was Now 39.

I feel like a generation traitor because I really don't think music was better in my teen years. Case in point, Now 39 ends with "No Way, No Way" by Vanilla which I'm going to link to here as a punishment for reminding me it exists.

tinytemper66 · 23/11/2024 23:00

Number 2! Still have it on vinyl...

Sethera · 23/11/2024 23:02

Now That's What I Call Music.

Still got it - I bought all the first 12 of them, and 'Now That's What I Call Dance' in 1985.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 23/11/2024 23:02

@Robotnik Another poster has already pointed out that they used to put the worst songs at the end so you've just beautifully proved their point with that abomination! 😂

It didn’t have a number because it was the first one. On vinyl. Bought it in Woolworths. Got number 2 on tape 😊

Me too!

Justkeepingplatesspinning · 23/11/2024 23:04

Now 6. On double cassette tape from Woolies!
