Are they up?
When did they go up?
If their not up when are you doing them?

Same!

It is anyone's perogative to put up or take down their decorations early if they want to (before 6 Jan being early) and it will always remain my perogative to judge them.

It's always the early put-uppers and take-downers who get all defensive and outraged they are being judged. And those of us doing it right quite cheerfully amused by it. Never sure why so defensive if you're genuinely happy with it.

And yes I'm being a bit tongue in cheek about "doing it right" but not entirely. I am right 😀

Nobody is defensive or outraged. Other than the people who judge others. That's what judgment is.

Early putter-uppers / take downers are live and let live about it all. The 'IT MUST BE DONE MY WAY; EVERYTHING ELSE IS WRONG!' people are the outraged ones!

Next weekend probably, if not the weekend after.

I always find these threads funny when people seem genuinely offended by when other people they don't know put their decorations up or take them down "too early" GrinGrinGrin

I don't care when others do theirs. But have been told many many times that I'm boring, miserable, a grinch etc because I don't decorate super early.
And then get "ugh. I can't believe you still have a tree up. I'm sick of the clutter" 2/3 days after Christmas.

Actually I'm just doing Christmas the way I like.

You say that but you sound a lot crosser than me.

I'm not cross at all. You sound very angry about it, on the other hand. What with your judgment of others! 🤷‍♀️

You're insisting you're right. You need to realise that you're really not...because it really really doesn't matter. It's all just opinions!

frozendaisy · 17/11/2024 19:01

Choosing, carrying tree home, sawing trunk, basically creating a whole fuss about the tree is part of our household enjoyment of the festive season.

Real trees last 3 weeks, so around 16th Dec until 5th January 12th night.

It doesn't matter indeed. As I say, everyone's free to do it wrong if they want to. Doesn't make me angry. Bemused as to why so many want to get it wrong yes but being certain I'm doesn't make me angry. Quite the contrary.

Well, you appear exceptionally agitated by the whole shebang.

Oh, and it's not wrong, it's just different to how you do it. Amazing, isn't it?!

Have you heard yourself 🤣

My children's arguments sound like yours

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/11/2024 19:06

Crikey, not yet! Tree (real) will go up on about the 12th, earlier than usual, because a DSis will be arriving from the US on the 17th and we’re going to be away 13th-16th.

Smaller tree will go outside the front door on 1st Dec. Front door wreath ditto.

Of course I have. I always enjoy this time of year and the fun conversations. Seems to wind people up so easily.

Correction there. Wind you up so easily.

You can call me wrong all you like. I don't celebrate the traditional 12 days. Therefore, my way is the right way for me.

I'm not wound up, I'm enjoying it all as cheerfully as ever. But I might make it an Advent promise, once it starts, to stop being drawn into these conversations as it seems to annoy others so much.

No, you're wound up with your judgment that others are wrong. Those who aren't rigid in timings or thinking don't care like you do.

Relax, throw caution to the wind. You might chill out a bit!

The ones defending the early up/down are the ones sounding wound up to me. And defensive. I've nothing to be defensive of. That's what's obvious to me. Clearly there's no way of actually knowing. You'll not convince me I'm wound up and I'll not convince you I'm laughing rather than seething.

But by all means continue to believe I'm angry if you prefer that to me thinking I'm enjoying it. Doesn't change anything my end!

I'm off to do bedtime now. Enjoy your evenings.

Being a judgey mcjudgeson, shows how it winds you up..that and the obsession with telling others they're wrong. Multiple times on multiple threads.

Do you know bedtimes differ from family to family too? Bet you do yours wrong.

Oh almost certainly people consider many things I do wrong, including bedtime. That is neither surprising to me nor something I feel defensive about either. Others are free to feel wound up about being judged as much as they remain free to take their decorations down early. 😂

It twas obviously a joke. I care as much about your bedtime as I do about your Christmas. Not at all.

I know. Clearly my amusement at that doesn't come through any more clearly than my general amusement with how wedded people are to their celebrating Christmas at odd times. I must try harder.
