Are they up?
When did they go up?
If their not up when are you doing them?

It's the 17th of November. It is not, in any possible way, Christmas. In fact it's looking like it's going to be a beautiful autumnal day.

I'll put fairy lights outside the first week in December, then the (real) Christmas tree will get done around the 15th. Other decs will gradually be added as I have time. They'll be up until 3rd/4th Jan, with fairy lights kept up until the days start lengthening and it feels like spring is coming.

I will not be 'deep cleaning', everywhere will just get a hoover as necessary.

TheTwirlyPoos · 17/11/2024 09:30

Just seems madness to me to put them up before December. We always put ours up with Carol's and mince pies and then it's festive and exciting. Just couldn't imagine doing it now. It's not in any way shape or form Christmas

BatFaceGiirll · 17/11/2024 09:43

Mine go up on the 5th December and I take them down the day after Boxing Day. I don't like to see in the new year with them up

Ginmonkeyagain · 17/11/2024 09:52

Any thing Christmas related before December can get in the fucking bin, ideally nothing before mid December. It's mid November people!

I am increasingly loathing Christmas and all the idiocy that surrounds it.

TiredTuftyTeddy · 17/11/2024 09:53

Used to be mid December, DS wants them up now!! Nope. Compromised and 1st December, however mine will be down New Year's Day, can't stand seeing them in January!!!

Iusedtobeapenguin · 17/11/2024 09:56

I think a lot of people genuinely don't realise when Christmas actually is anymore, ie twelve days starting on Christmas Day. I think it's a shame, like spending ages looking forward to your birthday then opening all your presents and celebrating it a week early ... I like to put my tree up in good time to build up to Christmas Day, but then they are up for the twelve days of ACTUAL Christmas!

ItsAllAboutTheBass7 · 17/11/2024 09:59

They go up 1st, come down 27th. For me it's all in the lead up. When Boxing Day is over, I like them gone!

Iusedtobeapenguin · 17/11/2024 09:59

And while I'm on a roll...I also hate the way that enforced early Christmas is encroaching on Autumn more and more until it's practically a couple of weeks long now. As soon as November the 5th is over everything is supposed to be snowy and festive and Autumn is finished. Autumn is three months long but it's practically disappeared.

Aaargh! So what time of year is it then? Spring? Time to get buying Easter eggs?

Bloom15 · 17/11/2024 10:01

Ours go up the weekend after DH's birthday (4th December). I love Christmas but this would be too early for me. I have seen others have decorated already.

Differentstarts · 16/11/2024 20:37

That's so late I don't think I could be bothered at that point

Because uts not actually Xmss untill the 25,th ?
Personally I can never understand people who put their Decorations up now and take everything down by Boxing day but each to their own.

We celebrate in the period leading up to Christmas Day. After we are planning for the New Year. Everyone has their own special traditions and ways of celebrating - there is no right or wrong.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 17/11/2024 10:07

No way! Mine go up mid-December and usually come down on 2nd January. I love Christmas but stretching it out dilutes the enjoyment for me.

StarsHollowGazette · 17/11/2024 10:08

We’re putting some of ours up next weekend and we’ll do the rest the following weekend. 🎄 🎅

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 17/11/2024 10:09

We put the front garden lights up yesterday. I've ordered an inflatable Santa and Christmas tree and they are coming Wednesday so they will go up then. We've put the tree in the children's room that they decorated. My youngest is currently making baubles to go on the tree. The main decorations will come out first weekend of December.

twentysevendresses · 17/11/2024 10:15

It's NOVEMBER! 🤦‍♀️

AbbeyGrange · 17/11/2024 10:15

Mine will go up on 29th November and come down 2nd January.

Unless you're on MN, where anything other than the way you do it is wrong.

So many weirdly intolerant people on here!

stargirl1701 · 17/11/2024 10:16

No. It's November. St Andrew's Day is yet to come. It would be rather odd to be tucking into haggis, neeps and tatties round a Christmas Tree! 😂

We will observe Advent and celebrate Christmas when it arrives. The tree will go up on Christmas Eve and come down on Twelfth Night. Having said that, I would keep it up until Candlemas if DH would tolerate that!

Ginmonkeyagain · 17/11/2024 10:16

@Iusedtobeapenguin exactly that - Christmas actually starts, not ends, with Christmas day.

Those fallow "non days" are actually the original pagan meaning of Christmas - dark, short, cold winter days when no farming or outdoor work could be done so people took advantage to rest, celebrate and connect with family and friends.

Caffeineneedednow · 17/11/2024 10:18

Yep went up yesterday

TappyGilmore · 17/11/2024 10:20

No, we will put them up next weekend. We usually do 1st December or the weekend closest to it, but this year we’re pretty busy so if not next weekend then we won’t get a chance until very close to Christmas.

Potentiallyplausible · 17/11/2024 10:20

Go up the week before Christmas, though ideally I’d like Christmas Eve. Come down on 6th Jan, but will keep some up till early Feb, Candlemas.
