When did they go up?
If their not up when are you doing them?

Mid December at the very earliest, up until twelfth night - seems most people’s have been taken down by then 🤷🏼‍♀️

Up first weekend in December, down by new year - probably New Year’s Day as having people over on NYE. I used to be a stickler for the twelfth night tradition but then I realised I cannot abide and brand new fresh year with Xmas decs hanging around cluttering the place up.

The tree went up yesterday my 4 year old is autistic and is absolutely mesmerised by the lights and sparkling baubles. It was the most peaceful Saturday I've had in a long time.

OllysArmyRidesAgain · 17/11/2024 11:18

Mine would have been going up on the weekend of 7th Dec (always the 2nd weekend in December when all the autumn/winter birthdays are done), but it will be the week after, most likely now, as I have loads on that weekend.
Always down for New Year's Eve as I like to start Jan 1st with a clean house plus by then all our house guests usually have gone so DH and I have a cleaning day and relaxing evening. If we entertained I would leave them up.

@FaceLikeACrackedScreen Sorry to hear this. Enjoy your 🌲

HappyNewYear2027 · 17/11/2024 14:53

Our living room tree went up last Sunday. Master bedroom tree went up yesterday. I want to get the dining room tree done tonight and hopefully the front of the house lights tomorrow.

Tumbleweed101 · 17/11/2024 14:57

Generally put up sometime during first week of December until after the new year. Usually come down the day before we are all back to work and sad normality.

tinytemper66 · 17/11/2024 15:37

Will get tree on December 1st and will put them up gradually that week. Then will take them down other than the tree on Jan 1st as away for that weekend then back to work.

BadPeopleFan · 17/11/2024 15:48

Mine will go up on the 1st December, it feels early to me but the kids love it.
I think when the kids fly the nest I won't bother putting the decorations up until the 20th December!

mitogoshigg · 17/11/2024 15:49

It's still November!

We put up mid December and take down on 6th Jan, epiphany

Itcc · 17/11/2024 15:54

Trees already up, but wanted to get dh to put up some outside lights today but weather hasn’t played ball, on and off showers of snow and lots of wind so hopefully he can next week.

Poggishairtufts · 17/11/2024 16:00

Not me, tacky af pre December

LlynTegid · 17/11/2024 16:07

Not up, indeed I will criticise anyone I know who has.

Advent Sunday, or 1st December, whichever comes first, or this year the same day.

lollypopsforme · 17/11/2024 10:39

Some in my area have decs up i cant think of anything worse.
But its down to them and let them enjoy it.

I quite like driving home on dark evening and seeing Christmas lights, it cheers me right up, even if it is November

If people don’t follow the traditions of advent (we don’t), they will have their own traditions and timelines

Just put mine up today... they have given me a lot of serotonin BiscuitGrin

Because uts not actually Xmss untill the 25,th ?
Personally I can never understand people who put their Decorations up now and take everything down by Boxing day but each to their own.

No I agree with you I don't understand the whole taking them down boxing day thing and have mine up until after new year. But wasting a whole day on 23rd or 24th December putting decorations up seems a waste I'm usually full swing into Christmas at that point

By why is putting them up later a waste of a day, rather than a Christmas activity? Why isn't it seen as a waste of a day earlier in the month? Either way it's a day.

Although it's more like 2-3 hours in my house.

itsgettingweird · 17/11/2024 17:57

They'll be down on NYE.

Haven't a clue when they'll go up yet!

Maybe 14/15th but probably the weekend after 😂

LeopardsANeutral · 17/11/2024 18:00

We're having the living room decorated next week so there's no point as they'll have to come down for that to be done. I would have been tempted were it not for that. Think it'll be around 1st December.

ChocolateTelephone · 17/11/2024 18:01

I usually do mine in the second week in December. We have a real tree and I do a foliage garland for the fireplace, so can’t go too soon or it’s wilty by Christmas!

I love seeing people’s trees and lights twinkling in their windows in November and December, it’s so cosy and cheering.

Margorett · 17/11/2024 18:08

last weekend before Christmas and down 27th December ! I hate the blooming things, just clutters up the house !

Would give me anxiety attacks, its far to early and its not even Christmas yet !

Uricon2 · 17/11/2024 18:12

Wreaths on doors around 15/12. Decs up anytime after 20/12, down 2/1 if it isn't a Bank Hol but a few twinkly lights survive into Feb.

It's the way my family always did it and what I'm happy with. I do find it odd when people put them up so early that they take them down on Boxing Day (still very much Christmas) as they're sick of them by then, but each to their own.

Because where busy at that point doing other Christmas activities the 23rd/24th December is basically Christmas we've already started celebrating and seeing family and friends and swapping gifts at that point . The closer to Christmas the busier it gets so I'd prefer to put them up the weekend closest to the 1st December then it's done as I also like them up when watching Christmas movies, baking and wrapping presents etc.

What does full swing into Christmas mean for you though? For many of us being in the swing of it means that makes it the perfect time to actually be getting the house ready for Christmas. It's precisely because prior to that isn't Christmas that I don't want to be doing decorations then.

Which is why I'll always find it weird people take the decorations down when it's still Christmas because they've decided Christmas is a time period different to what it actually us.
