Are they up?
When did they go up?
If their not up when are you doing them?

Last weekend of Nov. Down on NYE

Spagettifunctional · 16/11/2024 20:40

No I put them up the nearest weekend to first of December but I can see why people put them up to cheer up the house

for me though - i would be tired of them. The kids would have them up today (plus elf 😂)

MegaClutterSlut · 16/11/2024 20:41

Not up yet, normally last weekend of November

Overtheatlantic · 16/11/2024 20:42

I’ve put out a few bits like cushions and candles. I also have a couple of pre-lit branches from last year that I’ve stuffed in vases to help create a cosy living room.

BeeCucumber · 16/11/2024 20:43

Up Christmas Eve, down Boxing Day.

I prefer to call them 'winter decorations' for the time being 😁 just garlands and the odd fairy lights are up because it's cold, dark and it's nice to have a cosy home. Christmas decs will be getting put up on Wednesday after some major DIY work gets finished! For those asking why, I LOVE Christmas and have spent probably hundreds on decs. I want to get my monies worth!
Plus, time flies in Dec. I want a chance to relax and enjoy my decorated home before the busy period starts.

Sounds perfect I'm the same I want to enjoy them and I don't feel like doing Christmassey things until their up. Christmas movies, wrapping presents etc is always better with the Dec's up

I have just taken the autumnal ones down (just a couple of leafy things). Christmas decs will go up from 1st Dec. I'll need to give a deep clean first.

We put some up today, very very early for us. We’ve had some devastating family news this week and teen DC said they’d like to put a tree up. Fine by me.

I'm sorry to hear this. But bonus if your teen is willing to do it

Not for another month yet (and frankly, that's due to pressure from the kids, I'd put them up later). It's November, still lovely and autumnal. I have more need for decorations in January than now.

I actually saw a house with outdoor decorations in October. Who puts up Christmas decs before Halloween? Interestingly I was talking to an American and he was really surprised there's Christmas stuff in the shops here, there it doesn't make an appearance until after Thanksgiving. So this is a purely British phenomenon.

That seems so late to me

It seems incredibly late to me because we have too many several DC and there's so much to do with activities, fayres, parties, nativities, panto etc.

However, when they've all finally flown, I actually rather like the idea of putting the tree up around the 22nd. For a special fortnight, because we haven't been in Christmas mode dressing small people as innkeepers and rushing around to everyone's school Christmas fayre for the previous month.

If we didn't put the tree and house decorations up in the first week of December, I don't think I'd actually have the time in the following three weeks to do any of it.

Rockandgrohl · 16/11/2024 20:37

Not yet, tbh id like to as I always feel like the house is cosy with them up..:but I don’t want to get sick of them…my favourite part of Christmas is the chilled out “nothing days” in between Christmas and new year and I don’t want to spoil that by being sick of my decorations and ending up taking them down on Boxing Day like so many on MN seem to do!!!

This is why I haven't done them yet as much as I want to. I don't understand taking them down on boxing day

Mine will go up on 22nd/23rd Dec ish.

Mine too and we take them down Boxing Day night.

Screamingabdabz · 16/11/2024 20:47

But it’s not actually ‘Christmas’ yet?? Advent starts at the beginning of December. It just looks a bit odd to see Santas and snowflake lights when there are still beautiful autumnal gold and orange leaves on the trees…

Differentstarts · 16/11/2024 20:47

HaddyAbrams · 16/11/2024 20:39

Why? They'll be up for 2.5 weeks, give or take a day.

I know but I like them up when I'm watching Christmas films and wrapping presents etc. Things get so busy in them last few days for me it would be stressful that late on

Yes, I have heard that too. They have a much longer autumn/fall there. I think we sort of unofficially class from November as the winter even though it technically isn't. I think I am a bit autumn-ed out now. I'm ready for winter Dec's, but not Christmas ones just yet though.

Not the bloody elf I would be more then happy if that damn thing accidentally fell into the wheelie bin

Ours will go up weekend of 15th Dec and down 2 nd January, though we will have our advent wreath from start of December as we light a candle each Sunday of advent.

Up Christmas Eve, down Boxing Day.

How do you have time for this. That's actual Christmas

I can assure you it is not a purely British phenomenon. Plenty of the Americans I follow on Instagram have decorated for Christmas.

Pancakeflipper · 16/11/2024 20:53

No.

Our outdoor lights on the trees go on 1st Dec.

Xmas tree up inside a week before Christmas Eve.

I do not understand the need to put Xmas stuff up in November. collectingdust

MogTheSillyCat · 16/11/2024 20:53

Next weekend🤩

NoWordForFluffy · 16/11/2024 20:56

We're next weekend too, at DS' request! It was going to be the one after, but I've succumbed to his wants. Xmas Grin

stargazerlil · 16/11/2024 20:56

Up this Thursday. Down in Jan 1st.

DappledThings · 16/11/2024 20:57

Absolutely not. Xmas Eve if up to me but DH likes to do it all first weekend in December. Nothing comes down until Epiphany which is the absolute earliest they should come down.

I don't like seeing anything Christmas related until at least Advent. I refuse to acknowledge that there is anything in the shops yet for Christmas, there shouldn't be.

OatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 16/11/2024 20:57

Deep clean then decorations going up 29th & 30th Nov and always down on January 3rd.

School and work not back until January 6th, I need a few days of ‘normal’ before then.
