Are they up?
When did they go up?
If their not up when are you doing them?

It takes me an afternoon to put mine up and a whole day to take them down as I have to wrap and pack them properly. I like to have them up for a decent amount of time and get the use out of the dinner service and crockery so I do it on December 1st and take them down on January 1st.

I'm gutted that we have been waiting for a plasterer for 5 weeks (keeps cancelling) and now our upstairs won't be done until Nov 29th and I'll have to wait a week for it all to dry out so decs will go up late this year. ATM, the content of the bedrooms is downstairs and we are in chaos.

Helpimfalling · 16/11/2024 21:45

Bloody loads I've noticed, I swear it gets earlier every year.

Christmas is fundamentally a Christian festival celebrating the birth of Jesus. Even if one doesn't practice it is appropriate to respect it. Would one be as dismissive of Ramadan, or Diwali?

Christmas is fundamentally cultural (majority of people in this country are not Christian) and a lot of our traditions are naff all to do with Christianity. Most of what I celebrate predates Christianity by quite some margin. Christianity just nicked the date of a midwinter festival.

And even if you are Christian, doesn't mean that you celebrate on the 25th. My Dad is Greek Orthodox and my SIL is Ukrainian. They both celebrate Christ's birth in January. And on Dec 25th, both celebrate cultural Christmas. With the rest of us.

Tree up today! I’m not very well and my mums not well. Hasn’t been a great few months and it’s so dark and dreary.
Ds and Dh were both available today to do the work so I thought why not?!

I’m loving it. So bright and cheerful and I noticed one other neighbour has theirs up too.

Rainbow321 · 16/11/2024 21:53

No young children in the house . This year we are not bothering to put up the tree . Will do the other bits / lights as usual but no tree . Going for early December and down for 12th night .

bohnerific69 · 16/11/2024 22:01

Up on 1st December, down sometime between 27th and NYE. Can't bear starting a new year with the decorations still up.

TheTigerWhoCameToEatMyArsehole · 16/11/2024 22:07

Put them up Mid December down on the 2nd of Jan. put them up early last year as I was having a baby at the start of December so wanted to be organised but I was sick of the sight of them by Christmas. I'm a neat freak and it just ends up feeling cluttered after a while. I do wish I liked Christmas more but I don't.

FrangipaniBlue · 16/11/2024 22:28

Don't normally put them up until first weekend in December.

However......

DH is currently having cancer treatment and after next week will be out of action for 4-6 weeks. I can't get them out of the loft on my own.

So they went up today.

Except the tree...... I've treat myself to a Balsam Hill that I've coveted for years. It'll be going up next weekend when it arrives.

Fuck it.

HermoinePotter · 16/11/2024 22:36

Our aren’t up but they’re down from the loft and in a spare room. I’m having a sort through them this year and deciding which ones to keep. We’ve got 21 huge plastic boxes of Christmas decorations as we normally have 5 trees. I also decorate the bannisters, the porch etc. It can take us a week or so to get them all up so we’ll be starting the week after next. We always start the last week in November and are normally finished 2nd/3rd December. They’re all down by Hogmanay.

Peridot1 · 16/11/2024 22:44

November is too early for me. So early December it will be and down on 6 January.

I go a bit mad really so it takes a few days to put them up and pack other stuff away.

And I’m a bit concerned this year as DH has a dodgy hip so I’m worried about him getting everything down from the attic and putting the outside lights up. Might need reinforcements!

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 16/11/2024 22:50

There are a few houses around here already fully dec’d. We will be bringing ours in from the garage tomorrow. We leave them a few days to acclimatise, take out the dehumidifiers. I will start filtering through deciding what we will use this year ( I have various themes) then I will start putting them up gradually, usually over a two week period. It’s not a grand affair, I just have chronic health issues so do a bit at a time. I also need to get them out tomorrow as I’ve promised to lend some to the DDs school for the Christmas fair.

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 16/11/2024 23:04

We’ve started, went to tree farm on Friday to retrieve tree, DP started on the outside wonderland we put on, finishing that tomorrow, and we are putting the tree up Monday as only day everyone is home 🙂‍↔️

DaphneFlower · 16/11/2024 23:05

Up early December. Down early Jan

TheChosenTwo · 16/11/2024 23:11

This year we are getting our tree on the 15th and it will come down on the 26th (same as every year) because we go away on the 27th and I don’t want to come back home to all the Christmas cluttery crap!
I like having the decs up but 2 weeks is my max before I get irritated by it all.
And we don’t have masses, one box of tree decs and one box of other bits.

Couple of houses down our road have already gone in hard with the decorations. Seems crazy to me but it’s not me having to live with it all about the house!

Needingacoffee · 16/11/2024 21:38

I am a Christian, but the decorations are hardly the most important focus for me of any Christmas.

Same. Half of mine went up last weekend. The other half are in the works. The secular side and the religious side of Christmas are intertwined for me. I'm sure Jesus won't mind if I start celebrating his arrival early. We have our lights up for mid November to remember/honour our baby's anniversary.

Sheknowsaboutme · 16/11/2024 23:19

Yes, today,

Why can’t you go into the attic??

gotohellforheavenssake · 16/11/2024 23:21

Yep, main tree went up today along with living room and hallway decorations, other bits and bobs and Christmas bedding. Will do playroom tomorrow, and then dining room and outside next weekend. Daughters bedroom tree been up a week already. It takes a while to do it all, and I like to come home to a festive house when doing Christmassy things at the weekend. It's our local light switch on and market tomorrow. 🎄

Willsnbills · 16/11/2024 23:22

1st weekend of dec for me…so…exactly the 1st this year 🥰

Peridot1 · 16/11/2024 23:27

@Sheknowsaboutme - I know I should but I absolutely hate the stupid ladder stairs thing we have. And in this house it’s usually me with the dodgy back!

Usually DH goes up into the attic with DS on stepladder underneath and me at the bottom and everything gets passed down to me. So I do do my bit! Just hate the attic steps.

ChaosHol1 · 16/11/2024 23:30

I'm usually first weekend in December. My mum died in November last year and we left the country for Xmas as I couldn't face it. So, I'm itching to get them up now and get festive as I'm feeling it this year and want to make the most of it and feel like we havent had xmas for two years. I LOVE Xmas and the lights/decorations.

Misspacorabanne · 16/11/2024 20:25

Last weekend of November/start of December! They stay up until the 3rd of January usually!

Same. I can’t wait this year.
