Up Christmas Eve, down Boxing Day.

You might as well just get them out of the box and hold them for a sec then put them away again lol.

TinyMouseTheatre · 16/11/2024 20:59

Took the DDog for a walk earlier and noticed a few in my street.

The area is going downhill. I may need to move Grin

Frenzi · 16/11/2024 21:00

First week of December for me although hubby is away tomorrow so I am contemplating getting the table runner and candles out.

One thing I have noticed over the past few years on FB is so many people put their decorations up earlier and earlier but they seem to be the same people that take them all down on Boxing Day. I find that odd - Boxing Day is still Xmas!

Absolutely not. Xmas Eve if up to me but DH likes to do it all first weekend in December. Nothing comes down until Epiphany which is the absolute earliest they should come down.

I don't like seeing anything Christmas related until at least Advent. I refuse to acknowledge that there is anything in the shops yet for Christmas, there shouldn't be.

@DappledThings given the Epiphany is when most schools/jobs are back do you mind me asking if that throws you a little starting back but it’s still Christmas at home?

RabbitsRock · 16/11/2024 21:00

Up first week of December, down on 12th night or a bit before if we’re getting fed up

ExhaustedHousewife · 16/11/2024 21:01

No way! Far too early. Up on 15th Dec this year, down on NYE.

Bobbybobbins · 16/11/2024 21:02

It's my DS's birthday on the 2nd so usually a week or two after that.

They are going up early this year, 13th December, because the grown up dc and partners are descending that weekend for a family dinner because we will be dispersed at Christmas.

It's likely they will come down before twelfth night lest the baubles need a dust.

DH remarked upon a tree in the village when he came in tonight. We raised an eyebrow. Far too early.

Not at all. I've never associated taking decorations down with the end of the school holiday, only with the end of the actual Christmas season. There's an overlap with the school holidays but not a direct correlation.

DontCallMeKidDontCallMeBaby · 16/11/2024 21:05

We usually do them the Saturday closest to 1st of December. But dh is working that weekend, so we’re going to do it next weekend when we can do it as family. We tend to take them down the weekend before the kids go back to school, I think it makes it easier to go back, rather than feeling like it’s still Christmas at home.

Fair enough. I think for us it’s very much new year, new term, back to normal. Enjoy 🎄

When I was growing up Christmas decorations always came down on the 6th. I take mine down on the 31st December. I always hated them still being up after New Year when Christmas was well and truly over. It’s depressing.

HaddyAbrams · 16/11/2024 20:19

Mine will go up on 22nd/23rd Dec ish.

What is the point in doing it so late? It's such a faff to get the decs up I put mine up 1st Dec to make sure I get my efforts worth 😀

mrpotatocat · 16/11/2024 21:09

Where I live most people still put their (beautiful, not tacky) outdoor lights up on the 1st of Advent. And their Christmas lights in the windows. Then add things each Advent, and Christmas tree is last as many cut their own tree or buy them fresh. It’s nice to follow the actual traditions.

Curioustoknow1 · 16/11/2024 21:11

Mine went up on 1st November. 🎅🏻🎄🤩 Although I have to wait until next weekend to do all the outdoor decorations as I have to rely on my husband scrambling across the roof of our house for those! 🤣

But Christmas isn't over on NY Eve.

HelenInHeels · 16/11/2024 21:16

No because I don't do anything Christmas related until December. It's too much otherwise.

I only have a tree and a few candle holders and paper chains. We have to rearrange the lounge to fit the tree in. Is be fucking sick of looking at it if it went up too early.

Plus Christmas doesn't actually start until 25th!

FlakyAquaQuoter · 16/11/2024 21:17

I am usually a second weekend in December kinda person. But had decided on the 30th Nov this year as all the December weekends seemed wildly busy! As it happens I got the go ahead for a round of IVF which never makes me feel particularly like I want to do the deep cleaning/tidying/dragging out tree/.
That started Thursday, and doesn't finish until we are out of weekends.
Of course I could have just done it myself one evening in December, but where's the fun in that when DD was so excited to do it?!
So we put them up Wednesday and she was beyond thrilled.
Gotta say... I'm loving the cosy evenings in front of the tree.
She's got her very own one in her room so she can keep her paws off mine!

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head - following the traditions… it doesn’t add anything to put decorations up this early, it just diminishes the seasonal piquancy and makes it feel a bit naff.

GonnaBeASuperSaver · 16/11/2024 21:19

Mine will end of nov. As we have Christmas things booked for 29 and 30 nov and every weekend up to Xmas, and I think it be lovely to come home to indoors feeling festive on 29th
. So I'll prob spend 27th and 28th putting them up.

Daffyyellow · 16/11/2024 21:19

It’s still NO-vember for me. Will buy a real tree in early December and it’ll go up in mid December once it’s had a good long drink in the garage!
