Are they up?
When did they go up?
If their not up when are you doing them?

Last weekend of November/start of December! They stay up until the 3rd of January usually!

Same! We've got a cat this year though so I've no idea how he'll get on with the decs. They may be down much earlier

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 16/11/2024 21:08

What is the point in doing it so late? It's such a faff to get the decs up I put mine up 1st Dec to make sure I get my efforts worth 😀

Same here! Over the years I’ve spent more than a few bob on them so 4-5 weeks of Christmas joy coming my way ! 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄

Bibbitybobbity70 · 16/11/2024 21:21

No way far too early...but was in ikea yesterday & they already had real trees being prepped for sale this weekend!!
We're usually week or so before Xmas but possibly earlier this Yr as will need to have an artificial tree ( new kittens! Eek)

But it’s not actually ‘Christmas’ yet?? Advent starts at the beginning of December. It just looks a bit odd to see Santas and snowflake lights when there are still beautiful autumnal gold and orange leaves on the trees…

Exactly.

Mine went up on 1st November. 🎅🏻🎄🤩 Although I have to wait until next weekend to do all the outdoor decorations as I have to rely on my husband scrambling across the roof of our house for those! 🤣

Off with your head.

Jifmicroliquid · 16/11/2024 21:24

Too early for us. We put ours up usually first or second weekend of December.

Curioustoknow1 · 16/11/2024 21:25

@FuckMiniBabybells 🤣

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head - following the traditions… it doesn’t add anything to put decorations up this early, it just diminishes the seasonal piquancy and makes it feel a bit naff.

People can do what they want, but certain traditions are still a thing in Scandinavia where I live, and I do like it. People put up their lights, but don’t turn them on until Advent. It does make it more special.

But my dad is very ill and we put up their usual beautiful lights in their garden last week, they were insisting they wouldn’t turn them on until Advent but we did anyway. Nothing to wait for.

But Christmas isn't over on NY Eve.

It is if you’re not religious but culturally Christian. Actually, even as a child when I did believe in the whole nativity thing, I always felt that the three kings were really pushing it arriving so late.

Needingacoffee · 16/11/2024 21:27

Not yet put any decorations up. Haven't really put them up so early in any December. My eldest son will be turning 20, on the 21st of December too. I had brain surgery this past Tuesday = a tumour removed. Physically and mentally I don't feel up to it, let alone arrange Christmas gifts and cards this time round. Might go as much as I can with the flow. Probably will find out by coming Thursday, if it is cancerous or not. I will just keep it so simple, and based on family meetings. I am 100% sure they would be understanding, with no presents possibly...
Decorations might make me smile, but I personally don't need too much stress about arranging them though. 🥲

Megaaan23 · 16/11/2024 21:28

We’ve put ours up tonight, only because our wedding is in a couple weeks and we have no other time to do it from now until Christmas! 😆

Itcc · 16/11/2024 21:28

My tree went up recently, normally I’m first weekend in dec but I just really needed a bit of Christmas cheer

JoJothegerbil · 16/11/2024 21:29

No. Our's go up in mid-December and come down 2nd/3rd Jan depending on when I'm working. I can't understand those who put them up now. It's way too early.

Christmas is fundamentally a Christian festival celebrating the birth of Jesus. Even if one doesn't practice it is appropriate to respect it. Would one be as dismissive of Ramadan, or Diwali?

EdithStourton · 16/11/2024 21:30

Sheesh, no.
they'll go up the weekend before Christmas, except the lights on the tree outside which DH will sort out in a few weekends time.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 16/11/2024 21:30

Going up 1st Dec

MidnightPatrol · 16/11/2024 21:31

November is a bit keen.

First Sunday of advent is a good day to do it, and that’s the 1st Dec this year.

As others have said - I also enjoy having them up and a month of enjoying them makes it all feel worthwhile!

I may have to get the decorations out to see what I have a little earlier though - to avoid temptation to buy more!

I'm sorry to hear this. But bonus if your teen is willing to do it

Thanks, can’t say they look like they usually do 😅 atm, but it’s not important this week.

I usually start bringing things out gradually after advent Sunday, leave them up until the twelfth night. I expect I’ll be fed up of them by then.

I clean ornaments and put them away when Christmas things come out, that didn’t happen today but I’ll get round to it if I can be bothered.

I am moving next week so no decorations up yet. I might put the tree up on the 1st, the little one I foster is registered blind but can definitely see the lights of the tree when the room is dimly lit. He makes it his life's mission to get under the tree and explore it which means bits are forever falling off it but I love the look of delight on his face when he realises it's there. There are no many toys he can play with independently but playing with the tree is one thing he really enjoys.

Can you get a musical tree? We had one that played Christmas songs (think motion triggered but I was sub11 so can't fully remember) but we had that for my blind granddads benefit it was great

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 16/11/2024 21:36

First or second week of December here, and then down on the 27th.

I'm desperate for normality by then.

Needingacoffee · 16/11/2024 21:38

I am a Christian, but the decorations are hardly the most important focus for me of any Christmas.

Maybe you need to remove the (holy) stick from your ass.

Isthisreasonable · 16/11/2024 21:41

Early-mid December, take down on Candlemas (2nd Feb)

But Christmas isn't over on NY Eve.

It is in our house!
