Light hearted, is there something you never got for Christmas as a kid and still feel slightly whistful about?

I was talking to a friend earlier who got a Mr Frosty last Christmas, albeit a few decades after she first asked for him.

It reminded me that there was one thing I really wanted and never got, which was the early 90s Sylvanian Families manor house. Even though I understood that my parents/Santa wouldn't be able to afford it, I still headed my Christmas list with it for a couple of years just in case someone donated it to one of the jumble sales that my mum used to go to.

Haven't thought about it for years but finding the picture still generated a little pang of longing!

Anyone else got any?

An amazing dolls house. I expect I'll be a mad old dog lady with a magnificent one with working electrics etc.

@RebeccaDecember Red was my childhood main toy. Loved her so hard her eyeballs fell off.

Similar to yours OP - the playmobil Victorian mansion. It still seems to be available but even more expensive!

Me too! I looked on eBay once and was amazed .. it’s really held its value 😅

I made one out of cardboard instead which was clearly the same

Did anyone get a Tamigotchi? Or a Furby?

Yes. Both.
I asked my mum for a newer furby in my mid-twenties… and I got it 😂

Operation. I got it for my DS when he was the right age.

I wanted a barbie dream house and the campervan. Those were obviously way over budget for my parents at the time. I also always wanted a Mr Frostie! I didn't realise this was such a coveted item 😂. My husband actually bought me one when I was pregnant. I just craved ice lollies and ice cubes. It was a dream come true.

ReformMyArse · 17/11/2024 07:59

Barbie Dream House. A rich schoolfriend had that and the working shower lucky cow.

My Barbies had to lie folded in two in my tiny crap dollhouse. Most were amputees by then though.

I dreamed of having a baby doll that cried and made noises, it may have moved too. It was in the early 90s and just too expensive.

Missing out on that doll is probably the real reason why I went on to have five children....😂

I wanted a toddler doll that walked when you held hands with her. Never got it. I now have four children 🤔

StoatofDisarray · 17/11/2024 08:06

A chopper. This one is currently going for £2000 on eBay.

Oh weirdly I would have been happy with that... our cousins had a Big Trak and I thought it was so cool. I bought DH one a few years ago as he always wanted one too...not that cool after all 😂

But what's with parents / Father Christmas not getting it quite right?! Not like we didn't write countless lists and talk about it constantly 😂

Yup funnily enough all my friends loved it but I was never impressed!!

I know - I vividly remember telling everyone Father Christmas was definitely bringing me a speak n spell!! I cried on Christmas Day ! Mortifying really as there was other lovely stuff, so ungrateful - but kids will be kids!!

my mom still feels bad she let my dad persuade her the big track would be better!! 😂we were talking about it the other day funnily enough!!

Just remembered that my beloved country manoir fell foul only hours after receiving it on Christmas Day by moving it to have cosy next to the open fire playtime. It was lovely seeing the hedgehog family enjoying dinner round their table lit by the flicker of firelight and the battery powered chanderlir.

Turns out the manoir suffered (melting) subsidence. Alas.....at least the baby hog rocked sleeping in the green plastic cot.

Oh no that is sad. Not mortifying, just a kids reaction to major disappointment. I must have hidden my absolute dismay at getting Speak n Write quite well...but the devastation is real...and is awoken every time I see these threads or watch ET 😂

Glow globs. This would have been circa 1971. They are still available but Santa can shove 'em as far as I'm concerned. : )

madnessitellyou · 17/11/2024 09:53

Big Yellow Teapot.

I was at a friend’s house aged around 13 and I think we must have been reminiscing. She only went and produced a Big Yellow Teapot!!!!! We sat and played with it for a while. The hype was all true.

I was also desperate for the A La Carte Kitchen so I too could serve arctic roll and beans.

Grannyinnwaiting · 17/11/2024 10:10

Never heard of Mr Frosty

I really wanted tiny tears - always got an inferior alternative. my little sister did get tiny tears and wrote all over her face on Christmas day grrrrrr

Jifmicroliquid · 17/11/2024 11:37

I wanted a tiny mini snooker table (like fits on your lap tiny) My friend had one and I loved it.
I asked Father Christmas for one. Christmas morning I went downstairs and in my stocking was a note to go into the playroom. I went in and there was a proper big snooker table set up in there. My parents were (are!) amazing. I was very lucky.

notwittywithusernames · 17/11/2024 11:40

@Jifmicroliquid ahh that sounds lovely 🥰

Bunnycat101 · 17/11/2024 11:58

I was another one for ‘mr frosty’. They must have done an amazing marketing job on kids as soo many people wanted one but never got one. I also wanted the Slyvanian manor. I got the modern equivalent and enjoy it more than my children.
