Light hearted, is there something you never got for Christmas as a kid and still feel slightly whistful about?

I was talking to a friend earlier who got a Mr Frosty last Christmas, albeit a few decades after she first asked for him.

It reminded me that there was one thing I really wanted and never got, which was the early 90s Sylvanian Families manor house. Even though I understood that my parents/Santa wouldn't be able to afford it, I still headed my Christmas list with it for a couple of years just in case someone donated it to one of the jumble sales that my mum used to go to.

Haven't thought about it for years but finding the picture still generated a little pang of longing!

Anyone else got any?

I always wanted a shaker maker. A disney one with snow white and the seven dwarves. sigh

As a kid, I had some mould sets you put in plaster of paris (or similar) and let to set by putting some rests in the kit and put into a tall glass.

Left it for the desired time and the problem was removing the rubber mould. plaster cast were always crack, either in the main body or extremes such as ears.

Shaker makers were fab.
Safer than the exothermic reactions of plaster of Paris.

Big Yellow Teapot.

I was at a friend’s house aged around 13 and I think we must have been reminiscing. She only went and produced a Big Yellow Teapot!!!!! We sat and played with it for a while. The hype was all true.

I was also desperate for the A La Carte Kitchen so I too could serve arctic roll and beans.

My preschool had a Big Yellow Teapot but it was so in demand there was always a free-for-all to play with it. Randomly there was one in our doctors surgery waiting room too and luckily we must have been quite a sicky family as I have various memories of playing with it there and being gutted when our names were called.

Mr Frosty here too! My mum thought it was a waste of money :(

As a nicer aside, we had a toy shop nearby and I would go in after school to look at the soft toys, which I particularly liked when I was probably about 7 or 8. I was especially fond of a dog teddy they had out at one time which I had given a name etc. One day, I went in as usual to see it and remember breaking my heart because he had gone and thinking that someone else had bought him. I realise as an adult that the woman who worked there must have put it aside and given my parents the nudge and he was under my tree Christmas morning but it felt like real Christmas magic!

I think I could actually cry! This is such a lovely Christmas memory 💕

I really wanted the Pelham puppet witch. My parents did try but there had been a fire at the factory and there were no witches and probably few other puppets available that Christmas. They eventually found a devil. Now I realise that they tried so hard to find a good substitute but, to me, he wasn't the same.
(Still got him, I think he's worth more than the witch today)

Love this 😊.

I have a big dragon. Her mouth opens and shuts but the rubber band that works it has perished. I would have had her from Father Christmas in the mid 70's I think. I love Pelham Puppets.

A chopper. This one is currently going for £2000 on eBay.

Blimey! A Chopper!

I had the 'ultraviolet' coloured version when I was 8, 1970? (The picture is the infrared one).I think it cost £35 back then!! My DB and I would ride them to our tiny village primary school (a good 1.5 miles) then once we got there, he'd carefully pose our bikes side by side, handlebars angled identically, 'just so' in the bike parking area so all the kids would see them on their way to the playground 😁

My friend, whose family was better off, campaigned for a Chopper- but she got a Shopper bike, complete with a basket on the front...

Proper jealous! The Big Dragon!

@Hulahoopalaver I have the Sylvanian mansion! My son plays with it now and loves it (although transformers and dinosaurs reside alongside Mr & Mrs hedgehog). My parents saved for ages for it and I was and am very thankful !

That's lovely for your ds and I'm not envious at all 😂.

Ah they're a pretty obliging bunch those hedgehogs. Mine used to foster some ducklings as for some reason I had the baby ducks but no adult ones.
