Light hearted, is there something you never got for Christmas as a kid and still feel slightly whistful about?

I was talking to a friend earlier who got a Mr Frosty last Christmas, albeit a few decades after she first asked for him.

It reminded me that there was one thing I really wanted and never got, which was the early 90s Sylvanian Families manor house. Even though I understood that my parents/Santa wouldn't be able to afford it, I still headed my Christmas list with it for a couple of years just in case someone donated it to one of the jumble sales that my mum used to go to.

Haven't thought about it for years but finding the picture still generated a little pang of longing!

Anyone else got any?

Another one yearning for A la carte kitchen
Also The heart family car (wtf ? I've literally never heard of it ever again. My poor mum cycled to every toy shop in the area looking for it!)

When DD was about 8 or 9 I bought myself her a sylvanian caravan from ebay. Omg it was amazing, I think I got as much joy from it as she did! We got a lot of second hand sylvanian stuff and then DD sold it on when she was about 12.

I replaced desire for a Mr Frosty with desire for a giant fridge/freezer with ice dispenser / crusher. Wonder if those are as good as they sound or, like Frosty, a letdown!

Oh my god the memories you're bringing back everyone

I did have a an easy bake oven and it did actually work. Except no matter how much you prepped the pans, everything stuck to the bottom.

And I have the phone a listed above.

Biggest Christmas disappointment on receiving was my lite brite. If anyone can remember them. The commercials made it look amazing but it was just a back lit pin board. Played with it for 10 mins and never opened it again.

The 2 thongs lonnnnnnged for and never got both Barbie related...

The Barbie dream house with pool, including all the accessories and the Barbie horse trailer with horse and Riding Barbie.

A horse. A Cindy or Tressy doll. An annual.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 16/11/2024 20:07

Oh, & a chemistry set like my brother's (which I wasn't allowed to use, of course 🙄).

itsgettingweird · 16/11/2024 20:07

I always wanted a Mr Frosty too 😂

Did get a barbie house and hungry hippos though - so life wasn't all tough 😉

usernother · 16/11/2024 20:08

A Chopper bike in the early 1970s. They were really expensive and I didn't personally know anyone who had one. We used to see other children riding them and knew they must be from rich families.

LivelyFinch · 16/11/2024 20:12

A Space Hopper but apparently they were just too dangerous so I couldn't have one. Now I look back and think what a daft toy so it hasn't traumatised me too much.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 16/11/2024 20:16

I can't remember exactly what it was but I was desperate for some sort of robot thing that walked around. I think it was a white colour. No idea why I wanted it but never got it.

A chemistry set, I've just Googled it and it bought back all the pangs of longing that I had.

I had that exact chemistry set! It came with a little meths burner that you put cotton wool in and then soaked. I slightly set fire to the spare room with it

Also a cabbage patch doll for me. I was around 10 when they came out and still played with dolls. My mum said they were too ugly!

I also wanted, but never got, a soft toy dog from the Fox and the Hound. I think the dog was called copper.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 16/11/2024 20:27

Did anyone get a Tamigotchi? Or a Furby?

Bluebunnylover · 16/11/2024 20:28

Mine too! We’d be much too pc to call them ugly these days, let alone discriminate against them for it🤣

I only ever wanted a dog or a cat. Obviously Christmas not a time for that, but really that was all I longed for throughout my childhood ( bitter tears !)

I was eventually given a goldfish though.

TheMoonismadeofcheese · 16/11/2024 20:35

A Barbie. A TinyTears doll.

Fizbosshoes · 16/11/2024 20:36

Anyone remember garbage pail kids? They were really ugly, much worse than cabbage patch kids

Mine was a Mr Frosty. Got one for Dd a couple of years ago, it was used twice, so rubbish and a lot smaller than I expected.
The other things I was desperate for was one of those red Bournville chocolate machines, where you put a coin in and a chocolate came out.
I also always dreamed of being given a labrador puppy with a red bow around its neck, he’d come bounding out of a box into my arms 😂I begged for years, but it never happened. I have my own dog now and adore her.
