Light hearted, is there something you never got for Christmas as a kid and still feel slightly whistful about?

I was talking to a friend earlier who got a Mr Frosty last Christmas, albeit a few decades after she first asked for him.

It reminded me that there was one thing I really wanted and never got, which was the early 90s Sylvanian Families manor house. Even though I understood that my parents/Santa wouldn't be able to afford it, I still headed my Christmas list with it for a couple of years just in case someone donated it to one of the jumble sales that my mum used to go to.

Haven't thought about it for years but finding the picture still generated a little pang of longing!

Anyone else got any?

  1. Hornby Train set
  2. Colditz board game.
  3. Scalextric

Bought the Colditz recently on eBay a few years ago.

Dh bought me Scalextric a few Christmases after we started dating.

Ooh I had one of those chocolate money boxes. It was brilliant. But awkward to get refills.

I also got a torch on a wrist strap that year and thought it was brilliant.

I really wanted Buckaroo, never got it. Also a gumball machine, never got one of those either.

Hocuspocushyperfocus · 16/11/2024 21:06

Playmobil victorian house. Ohhh how I dreamed of owning this.

Am I the only one who doesn’t know what a Mr Frosty is?

I wanted a chopper bike but never got.

Ooh I had an A Team sweatshirt, from the local market 😂

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/11/2024 21:26

Mr Frosty crushed up ice, then you added syrup to make a slushie, @BunnyLake.

Hulahoopalaver · 16/11/2024 21:30

@BunnyLake from what I'm told he's the definition of style over substance.

(I did get the Mr Frosty and yes, it was shit).

I was desperate for a Scalextric, never got one. Did buy one as an adult though 😁.

Mr frosty
Screwball scramble

Toddlerteaplease · 16/11/2024 21:35

I wanted a lolo ball. One of the balls with a ring round that you jumped on.

Okbyethen · 16/11/2024 21:43

Another vote for the a la carte kitchen! I did receive a (cheaper, lol) different kitchen which I liked but it wasn't the a la carte one. And whenever the advert was on the TV I still longed for one ☹️

Also, Jewel Hair Mermaid Barbie - was told it was too expensive and never got one 😢 I still look at them online though and am contemplating just buying one (at an inflated price) 😄

LoquaciousPineapple · 16/11/2024 21:55

I always wanted a Skydancer doll. The ones with foam wings that you put on the holder, pulled a cord and it flew really long distances. In hindsight, I do understand why I never got one. I just googled and apparently they were recalled because of hundreds of injuries such as temporary blindness and facial lacerations. But my inner child still yearns for one.

Also Mousetrap. I saw an updated version in Smyth’s the other weekend and it has a label on the front saying “new easier set up!” So clearly they’re still fighting the reputation of being tedious to set up.

Speak n Spell...I was obsessed with it after seeing ET... I got Speak n Write 😭not the same at all.

I was desperate for a Speak n Spell got a big track instead still don’t get why!!! 🤣😂🤣

Auburngal · 16/11/2024 22:13

Mr Frosty - something I asked for years, which never got. From what people - friends, people on SM who had one, was the biggest let down ever.

I think my DM who chatted with classmate mums on the playground got the idea that don't waste your money on Mr Frosty for Auburngal.

SquashPenguin · 16/11/2024 22:33

Dreamphone and a Mr Frosty.

AutumnLeaves1990 · 16/11/2024 22:36

A Sindy doll house. I had a couple of pieces of furniture but not the house. I would have loved it.

A cabbage patch doll.

Morporkia · 16/11/2024 22:41

I always wanted a shaker maker. A disney one with snow white and the seven dwarves. sigh

Oh weirdly I would have been happy with that... our cousins had a Big Trak and I thought it was so cool. I bought DH one a few years ago as he always wanted one too...not that cool after all 😂

But what's with parents / Father Christmas not getting it quite right?! Not like we didn't write countless lists and talk about it constantly 😂
