Light hearted, is there something you never got for Christmas as a kid and still feel slightly whistful about?

I was talking to a friend earlier who got a Mr Frosty last Christmas, albeit a few decades after she first asked for him.

It reminded me that there was one thing I really wanted and never got, which was the early 90s Sylvanian Families manor house. Even though I understood that my parents/Santa wouldn't be able to afford it, I still headed my Christmas list with it for a couple of years just in case someone donated it to one of the jumble sales that my mum used to go to.

Haven't thought about it for years but finding the picture still generated a little pang of longing!

Anyone else got any?

Meccano. Grandad asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I said Meccano. My mother immediately jumped in with “ that’s for boys, you’re nit having that”
Cant remember what I got instead.

LuxuryWoman2020 · 16/11/2024 17:56

I wanted a Katy KopyKat doll and a Sindy house.

Despite my age I'd love to have my Sindy ballerina again, nostalgia can be painful.

AgnesX · 16/11/2024 17:56

A Barbie. I got a Sindy instead, which was ok but ungrateful brat that I was, I felt underwhelmed.

I always wanted a Barbie horse.

I desperately wanted the Sindy house. We couldn’t afford it so my mum made me a cardboard one. Bless her, she put so much effort into it.
Unfortunately, she had written ‘Sindy’ on the front of it as ‘Cindy’.
i was absolutely distraught by this and made a real fuss. Poor mum. Still feel guilty about that 45 years on.
I did have a Girls World. The hairstyles were impossible to do on the synthetic hair and the makeup was.. questionable.

Computer Battleships. I never got one. I did however ask my Grandparents for an Action Man, Mum said dont be silly girls dont get those. My Grandparents said I could have whatever I wanted and Action Man was well played with and used to get thrown out of the bedroom window on a parachute.

A Sindy doll. My mum decided that I was too old to play with dolls at 8(wtf?!) so I ended up saving my birthday and Christmas money to buy one.

A pony or a dog (I can to realise as I got older than neither were ever going to happen)

Pixie boots

Lifelover16 · 16/11/2024 18:02

A petite typewriter.
Father Christmas clearly misunderstood and brought a John Bull printing set.

Dreamphone! Still sad about it😂

Oh gosh Dream Phone. All my friendship group wanted it but not one of us got it and I was far too old when I realised that it was just pre recorded messages. At the time we all thought you'd be talking to real life boys. Like how would that work? A call centre made up of teenage boys just waiting to take our calls 🤦.

I REALLY wanted the Weebles playground. I used to add my Weebles to my Fisher Price people with their house and camper van. They were one big happy family! All they needed was a swing set. 😂

Star wars, AtAt.

Mydahliasareshit · 16/11/2024 18:07

When v small, a Mickey Mouse sweet factory. Got given the inevitable 'not buying rubbish like that' lecture.

As a teen, one of those very elegant and girly pale pink Raleigh bicycles that came out c.1984. I got books and cash.

The Play Doh Mop Top Hair Shop!

bohnerific69 · 16/11/2024 18:08

@Hulahoopalaver I think that's what I thought too! 😂 I guess that's why my mum never got it for me because of the boy aspect. She did used to spoil us abit so I never understood why I didn't get it until I was older!

Dellaandthedealer · 16/11/2024 18:08

Etch a sketch! Really wanted one, had to content myself with playing with my cousins’.

ChanelBoucle · 16/11/2024 18:08

A pony.

PinkArt · 16/11/2024 18:09

The Barbie Dreamhouse. It was three storeys, with a lift up the side. My friend Claire had one and I was/ am SO jealous.

WeregoingtoIbiza · 16/11/2024 18:11

I had a Mr Frosty and the play doh barber shop, both were rubbish.

I did have a girls world and a tree top house that I play with a lot.

I always wanted the Cadbury's vending machine, but never got one. I just wanted the little bars of chocolate

Tadpolecat · 16/11/2024 18:12

I always wanted one of those electric ride-in toy cars!

SilverDoe · 16/11/2024 18:12

Yes for me it was the Mr Frosty, but in years that came to pass, my mum did say they were rubbish!

On a brighter note, the one toy I truly remember getting and being so thrilled by was my Barbie and the Nutracker horse and carriage. The horse's name was Marzipan. Best Christmas ever 🥰

notwittywithusernames · 16/11/2024 18:13

Oh @Hulahoopalaver I longed for this SF house when I was little. My parents said it was just to expensive, I accepted it and happily (with some jealousy, lived my best life through my friends one). Then, oh happy days the parents announced it was time for the Christmas list (made from the Argos catalogue.

Nope, still too expensive. Enter my master bargaining skills. Big pupp dog eyes to father and off we trotted to the local toy shop. No Notwitty, it's a £100 far too expensive. Sooo...dearest daddy if I were to have the country manoir, village shop and nursery that's three for the same price.

Result ☺️

wendywoopywoo222 · 16/11/2024 18:14

I wanted an Evil Kenevil stunt cycle.
