Where is my friend? getting worried now

Friend coming to stay and said she'd be here about 11am so we could have lunch together. Still no sign of her.

Her DP just texted me about 2.45pm and asked if she'd got here safely as she wasn't answering texts and usually drops him a quick text after long drives to let him now she's turned up. He said she left at 9.30am which is right as it's about an hour and a half. I sent her a text about 12.30 along the lines of don't worry about running late I can hold lunch see you in a bit - no reply.

I've looked at her route on google maps - no traffic holdups that I can see. Not yet replied to her DP - will have to say she's not arrived... luckily he's not the type to panic but he will be concerned obviously.

talk me down I'm imagining all sorts of awful things. I wouldn't worry about an hour or even 2 hours at a push but 4 hours late with no communication is concerning especially as I know she left on time and she's usually really reliable give or take 20 minutes

Fingers crossed there's a simple explanation!

LAMPS1 · 16/11/2024 15:53

If she is usually really reliable then yes I’d also be very worried by now.

Is she used to driving or is she a nervous driver OP? Does she drive this route to you regularly? Could she have got lost and be too embarrassed to say?
Maybe she stopped for a coffee and bumped into an old friend, got chatting and didn’t realise the time.
All sorts of credible reasons why she could be late and hasn’t called you.

Fingers crossed she has turned up safe and sound by now.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 16/11/2024 15:52

I would find this horribly intrusive.

It is completely normal to message the friend when worried. It is not normal to jump to tracking apps the moment someone is late.

Horses for courses. We use it as a tool in our family. Not to spy on their whereabouts.

MelainesLaugh · 16/11/2024 15:53

Hope she turns up soon

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 16/11/2024 15:54

Time to phone the hospitals I’m afraid OP. Please let us know what happens.

listsandbudgets · 16/11/2024 15:54

He just called he's tracked phone which was last seen nearly 2 hours ago and car which is in the same place phone last seen. He's going to drive there - chances are my guess that she's broken down and awaiting breakdown services is right though have to say they're taking a verrrry long time and it's odd she didn't let us know. At least we know where her car is and hopefully my friend is safely in it and probably a bit pissed off by now!! If she's not there I expect he will then call police.

Will update later

I don't think she's having an affair!!

As for those saying it's odd he's tracking her / car I think it's pretty normal. My phone can easily be tracked using Where's my Phone and lots of cars have trackers not least because it often results in a cut in insurance premiums

I find it strange the DP is so calm. Over 4 hours late, no contact at all to anyone? Not normal for him to be calm or assume there is a rational explanation, in my view.

Error404pagenotfound · 16/11/2024 15:54

I hope she’s ok OP x

At least he is driving there now , I find it odd the messages delivered to her phone and there was no response, if her battery died they wouldn't have delivered ??

BESTAUNTB · 16/11/2024 15:55

Hopefully she’s broken down and run out of phone charge.

Don't you think it’s weird that there’s a tracker on her phone and her car!? I mean, if she’s genuinely missing I suppose that’s a good thing in this situation, but the fact it’s there in the first place is worrying in itself! Why is he tracking her? Has she got MH issues?

No, we all have follow my iPhone set up so DH and I can see where each other is and where our two DC are. It’s very useful as DH will time dinner for when I arrive home from work by checking how far I am away from home! We also have my elderly dad on there as he lives alone so if we don’t hear from him we can locate him.

Teanbiscuits33 · 16/11/2024 15:44

I wasn’t aware a car could be tracked apart from by emergency services in the case of an accident, but clearly I was wrong and have been educated today! I was thinking along the lines of an AirTag etc.

My car knows where it is. It has its own app and if I open it then I can see it.

Spuddling · 16/11/2024 15:53

I've got Life360 tracker app for the DS now he's driving. Very useful.

Or very Orwellian.

For those with older cars you can buy a tracker, it's about £4/5 pm. We have one fitted on a classic car (to track the car if it was stolen rather than the occupants - like the DH in this we would only log on to the account if the situation was unusual. We would have text OP first as he did)

IkeaJesusChrist · 16/11/2024 15:56

Love how posters are trying to cast aspersions on the partner with no evidence at all.

Merrymess · 16/11/2024 15:56

Strange she didn't call anyone to let them know what was happening unless her phone is out of charge.

This doesn't add up at all. If she was able to contact breakdown; why would she not have told anyone about breaking down?

BobbyBiscuits · 16/11/2024 15:57

@CurlyhairedAssassin yeah, it's very unlikely. If she was suffering from MH issues she could've went off somewhere I guess. But it's imperative they find her. Maybe calling round hospital a&e departments locally. They'll tell you if she was admitted or in the waiting area.

BoilingHotand50something · 16/11/2024 15:57

Gosh. This is a worry. Having said that, once I broke down and my iPhone died on me. Luckily I had a work blackberry which I used to call the breakdown cover. It had no personal numbers stored on it so I couldn’t let DH know until I was in the breakdown truck and could plug my phone in. My phone was originally charged but it crashed and died. Really scared me to be honest so I got a new phone soon after.

That’s so handy! Well I have learned something new today 😂

ApolloandDaphne · 16/11/2024 15:57

It seems odd she wouldn't let you or her DH know if she had broken down. I hope she is okay.

ilovelamp82 · 16/11/2024 15:57

Fingers crossed you're right and she's just broken down and run out of battery.

Coffeetacoscheese · 16/11/2024 15:57

Hope she’s ok OP.
I can track my car easily on the app. I can see immediately where the car is, how many miles it’s got left (electric), if it’s moving or stationary and what music the driver is listening to. It’s very convenient for knowing when DH is due home etc.

Spuddling · 16/11/2024 15:58

Well it was DS's suggestion to stop me worrying. I'd never heard of it.

Peridot1 · 16/11/2024 15:58

Hope she is ok @listsandbudgets.

Barleycat · 16/11/2024 15:58

Let us know when you hear from her OP. This must be so worrying for you x
