Where is my friend? getting worried now

Friend coming to stay and said she'd be here about 11am so we could have lunch together. Still no sign of her.

Her DP just texted me about 2.45pm and asked if she'd got here safely as she wasn't answering texts and usually drops him a quick text after long drives to let him now she's turned up. He said she left at 9.30am which is right as it's about an hour and a half. I sent her a text about 12.30 along the lines of don't worry about running late I can hold lunch see you in a bit - no reply.

I've looked at her route on google maps - no traffic holdups that I can see. Not yet replied to her DP - will have to say she's not arrived... luckily he's not the type to panic but he will be concerned obviously.

talk me down I'm imagining all sorts of awful things. I wouldn't worry about an hour or even 2 hours at a push but 4 hours late with no communication is concerning especially as I know she left on time and she's usually really reliable give or take 20 minutes

Don't you think it’s weird that there’s a tracker on her phone and her car!? I mean, if she’s genuinely missing I suppose that’s a good thing in this situation, but the fact it’s there in the first place is worrying in itself! Why is he tracking her? Has she got MH issues?

Loads of modern cars have trackers as standard. There are lots of apps that track phones. It doesn't have to be a big mystery or suspicious. I'm guessing you don't really do technology if you are surprised at either of these things.
Have you never heard of find my phone, life 360, snap maps or any of the other things that people use in daily life?

He isn't 'tracking' her, he's is about to check the trackers as she's been missing for hours, a totally normal action. A huge amount of phones and cars have trackers on.

I wasn’t aware a car could be tracked apart from by emergency services in the case of an accident, but clearly I was wrong and have been educated today! I was thinking along the lines of an AirTag etc.

I am wondering why her DP didn't look at the tracker earlier if he is worried.

He wasn't worried before. He is now that he knows his wife is missing

I hope she appears soon.

I was once so tired driving I realised I just had to stop and sleep for a couple of hours Blush

OP this is a good thing to maybe focus on while you're worrying. I've had to do this before and I have a cousin who travels for work and frequently has to this these days. It could be as simple and non threatening as needing 40 winks and going into a deeper sleep x

hollymeetsivy · 16/11/2024 15:46

Are you in London? Lots of traffic jams today

Spuddling · 16/11/2024 15:46

Worrying but hopefully just a car breakdown or something. Trackers should easily solve the cars whereabouts.

BackinBlack24 · 16/11/2024 15:46

Keep us updated hope she just broke down or something x

🙄 Get a grip.

It's the more modern cars that you have an app that you can connect to the car. You can't just track any of car. You usually also have to have a subscription to be able to use those features although I think a lot give you the first year free.

Mummyofthewildones · 16/11/2024 15:47

Gosh hope your friend is ok ❤️

CurlyhairedAssassin · 16/11/2024 15:47

I'm suspicious of the DP. If the car has a tracker, why did he not check it before bothering OP? That would be the logical thing to do. It's the whole point we have FindMy in my family. If someone is running late it's easy to look on FindMy and see where they're at so you know what time roughly they'll be there. None of us want the hassle of having to send texts.

I’ve heard of find my iPhone and use it when I have lost my phone, but wouldn’t think to give somebody else access to it. As for cars, no I wasn’t aware other than knowing they could be tracked when there’s an accident by emergency services. I’m actually quite good with technology in general. I wasn’t the only one surprised by this, clearly.

afaloren · 16/11/2024 15:48

I’d be frantic if I were you or her DP. Crossing everything there’s a simple explanation.

AnotherNameChange0 · 16/11/2024 15:48

I hope she is ok and turns up soon!

mrpotatocat · 16/11/2024 15:49

Frozensnow · 16/11/2024 15:49

I would be worried too. Hope she is ok

You'd still text though wouldn't you? "Sorry, Friend, but i'm having to pull into a services for a 20 min nap, I'm knackered. I'll message again when I set off again"

Spuddling · 16/11/2024 15:50

Any reported accidents on the route?

There's no suggestion someone else has access to it. The partner is going to try and see if he can track the missing woman's phone using her own laptop!

greengreyblue · 16/11/2024 15:51

Ring hospitals along route. Ring police with her car details.

He may have forgotten it had a tracker. I was only reminded I have one when reading this thread and I should've known as my car is only 6 months old

I would find this horribly intrusive.

It is completely normal to message the friend when worried. It is not normal to jump to tracking apps the moment someone is late.

Or wait and see what the tracker says?

Havalona · 16/11/2024 15:52

If it's a breakdown situation, why would she not message anyone?

Phone out of charge? Surely the first thing you do on getting in your car is to plug it in, well I do anyway! I'm belt and braces though, and always have a power bank fully charged (it's a little one) with me. It's one that doesn't need wires to attach to phone. IWalk brand.

Sorry if I sound smug, my over caution is due to being in a difficult and potentially dangerous situation a few years ago with a fading phone. Never again.

Spuddling · 16/11/2024 15:53

I've got Life360 tracker app for the DS now he's driving. Very useful.
