Where is my friend? getting worried now

Friend coming to stay and said she'd be here about 11am so we could have lunch together. Still no sign of her.

Her DP just texted me about 2.45pm and asked if she'd got here safely as she wasn't answering texts and usually drops him a quick text after long drives to let him now she's turned up. He said she left at 9.30am which is right as it's about an hour and a half. I sent her a text about 12.30 along the lines of don't worry about running late I can hold lunch see you in a bit - no reply.

I've looked at her route on google maps - no traffic holdups that I can see. Not yet replied to her DP - will have to say she's not arrived... luckily he's not the type to panic but he will be concerned obviously.

talk me down I'm imagining all sorts of awful things. I wouldn't worry about an hour or even 2 hours at a push but 4 hours late with no communication is concerning especially as I know she left on time and she's usually really reliable give or take 20 minutes

No I blame the friend here who I think is lying to cover up something like a panic attack or other crisis.

You said her DP contacted you at 2.45pm because she wasn’t answering texts and he wanted to make sure she arrived safely. Why didn’t he check the car tracker then?

Because that would be weird to me. Not everyone tracks people's every move- plus it wasnt on his phone he had to log into her laptop. I would expect my DH to do the logical thing of texting my friend before checking trackers.

In which case I wouldn't blame them either.

Why can't we accept that her friend had an accident and we don't know the full details? Why can't we accept that her friend was obviously shaken up when she was found and the conversation was garbled on a call with a bad signal and maybe not everything was explained? And why can't we accept that the OP may have left some bits out because she didn't remember or didn't want to share everything with strangers?

I'm not a driver so please correct me if I'm wrong, but I would've thought it was difficult to bang your head if you're wearing a seatbelt?

What might she have banged it on, when she skidded?

You could get a side impact blow from the driver's door but most modern cars now have air bags that reduce the impact.

Maybe because the OP didn't say this was all open to speculation and wrote it as fact?

Edited

So the OP gives a reasonable update on the situation and is supposed to invite speculation?

Posters have created wild theories without the invitation, so goodness knows how much wilder it would have got.

Her friend was in an accident. She's been found and hopefully has been medically checked for injuries and concussion. Surely this is enough information.

LochKatrine · 17/11/2024 13:00

Not quite. The OP presented it as a mystery - concerned about a friend, but a mystery to be solved, nonetheless.
People get intrigued and offer solutions, I don't see a harm in that. If talk guidelines are broken, then report, but the comments I've seen have been harmless. (Disclaimer: I may have missed some).

I would. Very high IQ. Practicality about zero

My DP absolutely would despite more than 1 occasion when he's stuck on side of the road with an unreliable motorbike that's had an episode of some sort. I on the other hand don't even go into town on the bus without a charged phone and charger cable in my bag

The subject line invites speculation. WHERE IS MY FRIEND.
And' talk me down'.

The entire thread is about 'what has happened'.

Your opinion of a 'reasonable explanation is just that. Yours!

Many posters felt it wasn't reasonable at all.

So it's not unreasonable for posters to start saying certain things don't add up, bearing in mind what would usually happen when a lone female was stranded on the side of a road with a blow out bad enough to sprain her wrist as she tried to control her car.
