Are we going to die?

Over dramatic title.

My husband is an idiot. On Monday I realised 2 packs of diced pork had gone off before being used. Bin day is not until Friday so I discussed the best way to dispose of them, he suggested leaving them in the fridge until bin day so they didn't stink out the bins. I had new pork arriving Tuesday so clearly told him the old stuff was on the bottom left.

This evening I was out at a college open evening, and he cooked pork kebabs. Predictably, he used the old pork, and this did not come out until we had finished eating. I once again mention it was HIS suggestion to leave it in the fridge 🙄

The bloody stuff went off 8 days ago. 8. We all ate 2/3 kebabs of it, so probably 8-10 pork chunks each.

We have 2 toilets and there are 4 of us who ate it. Are we going to have to do bathroom lottery tonight? Will we be dead by morning? Shall I offer hubby as a sacrifice if the rest of us can avoid illness?

@PennyCrayon1 campylobacter is most commonly from chicken
I had chicken at the meal and hadn't eaten anything else around that time except for toast, yoghurts, cottage pie, veg etc so really low risk stuff
The timing fit as well
I've also never had food poisoning in all the years of cooking for myself and I'm incredibly careful with chicken, use a meat thermometer etc

It's not like it would have stunk out the outdoor bins that quickly, at this time of year. It's not been much warmer than the fridge, outside.

Op may not be in the uk?

Foxes raid bins so won't care and would love it.
I often do them a goody bag of out of date eggs and meat.

Sorry, how do you even have out od date eggs?
They have only best before date?
Which means they will not be the best quality for like poached wggs and meringue but perfectly fine to eat.
I can attwst that one would spot a bad egg once cracked

Probably best to buy a roll of compostable bags to put especially manky food in the food bin. You can tie the corners.

Our food bins are collected weekly fortunately.

And put it in the freezer until the night before the bin men come. Especially in warmer weather - otherwise the smell will attract bluebottles. Apparently they can smell anything dead from a mile away.

Coffeeandgranola · 15/11/2024 09:30

Need an update, OP (if you're still with us)

TheShellBeach · 15/11/2024 10:08

Are you and your husband alive this morning?
🤣

Teateaandmoretea · 15/11/2024 12:29

It’s not looking good is it? 😬

cannynotsay · 15/11/2024 12:53

I'm so curious how this is going?

I think OP's DH might still thaw it out and cook it!

I hope you're not dead OP.

BabyFever246 · 15/11/2024 16:05

Oh God this is like the crows 😅

DaisyDukesAuntie · 15/11/2024 16:23

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has checked back in on this thread a few times today.....talk to us OP

Lollybaz · 15/11/2024 17:41

Yes I'm wondering if they are all ok too! It's gone very quiet! I hope they are all ok! Talk to us !!

JaroSally · 15/11/2024 17:43

We need to know I'm too invested now!

Joloman74 · 15/11/2024 17:44

Bathroom lottery and offering him as a sacrifice 😂😂😂 I just double or triple bag stuff like that and outside it goes in the bin.

LisaJohnsonsFacebookMole · 15/11/2024 17:46

Should we start collecting donations?

DieStrassensindimmernass · 15/11/2024 17:51

Haven eaten pork sausages which were well in date and looked and tasted normal, and then both me and my son being ill for 3 weeks on and off, so much that we ended up seeking medical advice, I really hope you're ok! Wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy!
My husband ate mostly the same meals as us that week except for those sausages and wasn't ill, so I'm fairly sure it was linked to them. 🤢

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 14/11/2024 20:06

In future, I’d def. put any meat that’s gone off* in the freezer until the night before the bin men come.

*Sounds as if yours was fine, though. It would surely have smelt horrible if it had gone off.

Are you still with us? Congratulations. If not, condolences. You were past your sell-by date.

ShyPlumOtter · 15/11/2024 17:58

I dont know who is worse. You allowing rotten meat be stored in the fridge. I would have wrapped ot up and put it in the bin. He is just not responsible if he cooked bad meat for four people.

Be prepared ,,,,🤢

Take cremaffin plus syrup 10 to 15 ml - only once for kids aged 6+ and adults can take 15 or 20 ml - only once, it flushes out your digestive system into diarrhea , exactly just in 12 hrs. Then take care with light foods and more water.

thebigchangeishere · 15/11/2024 18:00

Maybe the answer to the OPs question was yes....

AGreatUsername · 15/11/2024 18:00

I continue to live!! None of us have felt remotely dodgy today so I have high hopes this will continue.

Thank you for your support in my time of diarrhoea fear.

I think you only get maggots if the meat has had flies on it.Put straight in a lidded bin outside, it should have been OK.

Whatinthedoopla · 15/11/2024 18:04

But how was it?

Bridget05 · 15/11/2024 18:10

If in doubt, neck a can of full fat Coke. A trick I learned from falling into the can.als. Swallowing canal water infinitely more dangerous. Coke kills the bacteria

Stock up on toilet rolls cause chances are you're going to be on the shitter for a few days.

You'll be fine though!
