Vance

https://bsky.app/profile/mwehowski.bsky.social/post/3lervylmrns2r

What is J.D. Vance even referring to? Thuringia, for example, was a stronghold of the Nazi party - it was the first German state (Land) where a Nazi (Wilhelm Frick) became a minister.
Today it is also a stronghold of the most radical, racist and anti-Semitic AfD politicians.

President-elect Donald Trump plans to hold a “victory rally” at the Capital One Arena in Washington on Jan. 19, the day before he is sworn in, according to a sign-up page on his inaugural website. Meanwhile, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) is scrambling to secure enough votes to be reelected to his position on Friday, when the new Congress convenes. Some Republican House members continue to hold out despite Trump’s endorsement of Johnson this week.

Trump and his minder (Musk) have now both come out in favour of Mike Johnson being re-elected as House Speaker but it appears some Repugs are not fully onboard. It would be nice such a shame if Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dummer find out that they are not as popular persuasive as they assumed.

Once Trump and Vance are in the WH, all this interest in other countries politics may become less engaging to them. They have a ton of home-grown legislation to tear up and replace and all those old political adversaries to attack so that should them occupied.

There appear to be some MAGA congresspeople who would take Musks endorsement as a very special reason not to support Johnson. They will - naturally - need bribing. Although if they are wise they will cash the check before casting their vote. (Isn't that rule #1 of grifting ?)

I wonder if the offer of Dem support for Johnson might be the perfect way to ensure he doesn't get elected ? I'm sure they've considered that themsevles.

The House Speaker vote is underway

Talkinpeace · 03/01/2025 17:44

MAGAs will not by Teslas as they like internal combustion.
Dems will not buy Teslas because Trump
Europeans will not buy Teslas because Trump and £££
The rest of the world will buy cheap Chinese

Nice one Elon

Imagine being a Tesla owner (that is not bright enough to lease one) and realising how much extra your toy is depreciating because of his Muskness.

DuncinToffee · 03/01/2025 18:04

On our local facebook rant's page, Tesla owners are now put in the same category as 4x4's when it comes to driving through flooded roads

Personally, if I owned an electric car (don't worry, my marbles are still intact) I would be very wary of driving through standing water.

Are Teslas easy to push ?

Fuck Trump.

Fuck Musk.

Talkinpeace · 03/01/2025 19:35

Johnson is in with 218

Now we see how the Presidential election count is handled on Monday

and start buying Crackerjack for the inauguration
(then again I prefer Pepperidge Farm goldfish)

Spandauer · 03/01/2025 19:35

2 of the holdouts of votes for Johnson have now changed their vote so Mike Johnson is speaker. (What were they offered?)

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Capitol, Vice President Kamala Harris is swearing in every senator, including political adversaries like Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri and Bernie Moreno of Ohio. Today, at least, everyone is all smiles and polite chitchat as they pose for photos with Harris.

Also McConnell is no longer senate leader thank god.

Ann Telnaes is one of my favourite political cartoonists. Good for her for sticking to her principles!

We cancelled our Washington Post subscription after their ridiculously negative coverage of Harris and even more ridiculous fawning over the Orange 💩. Hopefully another publication will be more open minded and publish her. Maybe she should contact Private Eye!

A very non hysterical take on the speakership vote.

Note the maths ...

Y'all have a good day (I wonder if US posters who catch "our mate Phil" are as attracted to the Mancunian accent as UK posters to that Southern drawl ... ?)
