Gaetz the new governor of Florida?

DiSantis can't step aside and just hand the governorship to Gaetz if that's what you mean, it would 'devolve' onto Lt Gov Nuñez. But that doesn't stop Gaetz from running for Gov in 2026.

He may figure that 2 years is long enough for people to forget who and what he really is. And when it comes to the MAGA crowd, he's probably right. I also wouldn't be surprised if he decided to run for Rubio's Senate seat when that comes up for election but that's not til 2028. Probably too long for him to wait.

There was a rumour that DiSantis was going to step aside and that Lt Gov Nuñez would step up and appoint him to fill Rubio's remaining term.

DiSantis is in the process of setting a date for a special election for Gaetz's seat. He's also said that he'll appoint Rubio's successor in January.

Gaetz tweeted a picture of the Florida state flag and people replied that he was standing for governor, no idea what it was supposed to mean.

I really don't have anything to say. It would have all been history within 1 hour of the inauguration anyway.

The case is being dismissed 'without prejudice' which means the charges can be refiled at a later date (after SCROTUS is no longer POTUS) so that's a good thing. And I think Smith doing it before the inauguration means that he can collect and collate all the documents and stash extra copies away put them in storage. Although I have a feeling that anything put in 'official' storage will end up being 'accidentally' destroyed.

propose outrageous candidates for the positions so that eventually hardliners appear moderate and are aporoved by congress/senate.

I'm still trying to keep Trump news at arms length otherwise I get either consumed with rage or overwhelmed with despair!

His list of preferred candidates is so ludicrous in their lack of suitability for the roles that they are up for, you really would think it's based on a Veep script that was never televised. But there's nothing funny to come in Trump Season 2.

He's got so much to destroy he'll need a new set of pens for his Executive Orders. (Hope the materials for Sharpies don't come from China...)

@Spandauer I do not know if you read HCR - she is very partisan but is a historian.
By pulling the cases now, Smith has the power to resurrect them after Trump ceases being president
(reading around some of the UK feminism cases has helped me understand the legal long game principle)

Also loving the carve outs demanded for the Agricultural and Building sectors - as they are knee deep in illegals
(ie American bosses hiring guys for cash with no social security or medical cover and banking the profits to put offshore under Trumps tax cuts)

I really like the idea I saw online from Corette Scott King (MLK's daughter) to not name That Guy on social media, and just talk about the Republicans/the Republican government. A) It stops That Guy being front of mind and B) Reminds everyone, including them themselves, that the GOP is accountable for everything that happens. They should not be allowed to wriggle out of any of the consequences of their power-hungry cowardice in going along with That Guy.

I've also just thought another positive of that is that is that his fans can't then go 'Oh, you're obsessed with him because he's so great and you're such a loser'
