Looks like Trump could win?

It's looking good for Trump. My dad is a total Trump hater and has been convinced that he won't win, especially since Kamala took over.
I don't know how the system works but is it too early to say that Trump is going to win?

sure sure, you’ve just been hiding that vibrant, innovative economy from outsiders …

Otherwise you would try to eat our chips.

(Please don't come to the Netherlands. It is a terrible, blighted place.)

you write as though Britain and Europe are the same thing

Yes I do in the sense that your challenges are quite similar

Britain has become a bit of a foreign policy backwater since brexit it's true, but the EU is a serious economic power block

Really? Germany is going through an industrial shrinkage that is actually really bad. If German manufacturing collapses … the EU is in trouble.

It is sobering to realize that EU and US were at economic parity just 15 years ago, iirc EU was slightly bigger but nowadays the US has zoomed ahead. You’ve made hardly any contributions to the digital landscape, instead it is being driven by the US and China/Taiwan. It seems you prefer to regulate what other people do than create anything yourself.

And a lot of you think it’s gonna be fixed by taking more money away from
the successful …

There's a lot I like about living here but your post isn't baseless

In terms of this stuff it is discussed by political and economic analysts

At least Europe knows how to make cheese 😁

Which I have the privilege of buying in Giant Eagle at insane prices. $18 for a block of Parmesan!

And don't get me started on American 'chocolate'... (Hershey, I'm looking at you)

Without national security there is no culture.

Yes the US is different from the UK. I have been there many times. Often people are surprised by how different it is. Two countries divided by a common language as the saying goes.

But most of the key values are the same. And I would question who would make a better ally in an uncertain world and have the same weight. China ? Russia ? The EU ?

The EU probably has a lot in common with the UK, but has a woeful record on military spending and intelligence gathering. Most of the members spend more time trying to get one ups on each other rather than trying to act in the strategic interests of the collective.

You d have to explain that to the rest of Europe?

Anyway, your assertion "Even Trump understands this" is nonsense, Trump may be the POTUS who leaves any meaningful security pact we might have.

Do you really think his threats to stop armaments to Ukraine in anyway going to benefit the UK? & you only have to look at some of his latest appointments to see that he is serious about this threat.

We'd be much better binding our future with Europe instead of this outdated belief the USA are our special friends. they'll do whatever suits them, not the UK & its always been like that.

To get back to the other type of chip : here is a video from a couple of years ago about the ways in which America/The Netherlands/the EU and the rest of the world are interconnected. Under Joe Biden, ASML (Dutch company with US links) opened up factories in America. That wasn't just about US jobs, there were huge strategic forces at play. But the commercial aspects are completely bound up with geopolitics and it will be interesting to see how Trump/Musk treat this issue. The Dutch are a bit dependant on the US for their parts, but equally they have some very significant cards in their hands since they make the actual machines. It isn't the case of "hah hah backwards EU they need us we don't need them". And whether they/the EU shares those machines with China or gets closer to the US or further from both countries matters. But essentially. the EU and US are still allies in this field - their interests are currently too closely bound together.
And Chips are just one example.
Also, firing a laser at a piece of melted tin to make it explode in order to produce UV light and using that light to carve unbelievably tiny lines will never not be cool.
