It's looking good for Trump. My dad is a total Trump hater and has been convinced that he won't win, especially since Kamala took over.
I don't know how the system works but is it too early to say that Trump is going to win?

I have seen what happened to Springfield Ohio. My hometown is not far away. I have every right to vote to prevent this from happening to my hometown.

It's the place Trump lied about when he said Haitian immigrants were eating people's cats and dogs.

Springfield had very few Haitian immigrants. In just the last four years, the Haitian population is somewhere around 20,000 people. This in a town of 60,000. Iirc Catholic Charities is the one bringing them there.

They are not usually directly hired, it seems that shady staffing agencies will contract with local companies. These jobs are not advertised to the public, btw. Probably because they are paying below market rate. But because landlords have taken homes off the market to rent to Haitians, housing prices have risen while wages are the same (and certain jobs unavailable due to Haitians)

That’s before we get to the roads. Imagine recklessly driving to the point you hit a school bus head on and overturn it. A child died in that accident. I don’t think alcohol was even involved, just a reckless driver. Another killed a woman taking her trash out, they aren’t even getting charged last I heard.

They also use taxpayer funds, so all of them have EBT and Medicaid. So they are contributing to stagnant wages, housing is going up, and taxpayers are being used to prop it up.

And I don’t know if they are eating the dogs or eating the cats, but they are definitely eating the ducks and geese from public parks.

Tbh I wouldn’t bet the farm on it. Other cultures have different ideas about food and some cultural clashes will come from this.

Some parts of Asia view dogs as food. Dogs can even be raised (somewhat) humanely in South Korea for food.

Would all twenty thousand Haitians understand that stray cats are not considered food?

Would they stop eating cats just because they cross a border? Would relocating agencies tell them that eating stray animals (or ducks/geese) is not an acceptable practice in America?

I think most would not want to offend their hosts. But … let’s not say this would never happen. Because you know it’s gonna happen and you’ll look bad for denying it

It is incredibly rare to drive so recklessly that you hit a school bus head on and overturn it. Can you imagine how fast that minivan was going?

He didn’t have a license either. So pretty much had contempt of the local laws from the get go.

And I’ve always maintained that any death caused by an illegal immigrant is an entirely preventable one; here, since he was brought in by an agency like Catholic Charities, the fault is also on them.

I don’t think Trump was accurate in saying for sure that they are eating pets. But they do eat stray cats in Haiti, are you so sure they’d leave the practice at the border?

A similar crash happened in 2022. A school bus likewise overturned by cars taking part in a 'road race.' The drivers were not Haitian immigrants.

We don’t need to look to another country. Eisenhower deported an estimated 1 million+ illegal Mexicans and sent them back after WW2.

Nowadays it should be far easier. Just deny them employment by imposing high fines on employers hiring them, deny them government aid, tax remittances at high rates, break up the NGOs that are helping them cross and do occasional raids on places known to hire illegal workers and most will go home tbh. It’s not complicated.

RingoJuice, no of course we shouldn't. And if Haitians are more likely to drive dangerously, we should be aware of that. Human empathy doesn't mean we let people in to our detriment.
I'm just pointing out that such crimes are also committed by native born Americans. Apparently such reckless driving was common in Albuquerque and the police had been expecting an incident. If there I'd a greater chance a Haitian will drive dangerously, we should be careful. But is there?

There are immigrants everywhere. People have relocated to other areas since the dawn of time. Immigrants have also always been scapegoated since the dawn of time.

Most immigrants are a positive addition to the society they live in, some aren’t. Some existing residents in that area are a positive part of the society, some aren’t. In any group of human beings you’ll get the good, the bad and the ugly.

You can consider movement in and out of a country and how to maintain balance, equality and societal health. You can have processed to vet people coming in. You can have processes to deport people who have arrived legally (however there is no other way of seeking sanctuary in the U.K. than rocking up here so you need an alternative).

You can consider and discuss and take action on all of the above without racism. Without citing uncorroborated information or misinformation and without inciting hate.

Haitians aren’t an homogeneous group that are all this or that. Trump voters aren’t an homogeneous group that are all this and that. Trump supporters caused deaths on the Jan 6th storming. That doesn’t make all Trump supporters reckless, mindless vandals that are violent and cold.

We have to stop seeing others as either this or that, us or them. It’s not like that. We are all more complex than that.

Are you religious? Trump's side are supposed to be v religious, but you don't seem v keen on loving thy neighbour. If the immigrants have no aid, no NGOs, no jobs, high taxes, how will they live before being deported? Jesus extended love to all people, including those reviled as parasites by society. Obvs individual families must put themselves first, but the government can't leave immigrants completely out in the cold w no help.

Trump is not talking about 1m Mexicans, he is talking about 12 to 20x that number.
Operation Wetback was awful & numbers deported are thought to be around 300k, as many returned and figures unreliable.
Also large numbers of US citizens deported too, it alsorelied on co op from the Mexicans, who wanted more workers....

For many migrants home isn't Mexico, home is 1000s of miles away and they will not have the means to go home, so who will look after them, can Mexico?

If you do a tiny bit of research ( eg search ‘fact check Haitians eating dogs and cats) you will see that the authorities have said there is no evidence of this and the woman who initially spread the story had no evidence and regrets spreading it.

‘They are stealing/eating the pets’ is an old racist trope designed to incite anger and hate and has been used many times before in history.

I feel a lot of sympathy for the people affected by bad immigrants. Also for the immigrants. My grandfather was a Polish immigrants here & worked hard all his life. I hate how Poles are stereotyped as aggressive, stupid & prejudiced & I can see a lot of the same stuff here.
