Do you think being thin will become less desirable now it’s more attainable?

thehighgatevampire · 03/11/2024 07:31

I was just thinking about this, being thin has always been seen as something desirable but not something that everyone could manage for whatever reason but now with weight loss injections it’s something that’s open to many more people.

Things with an element of rarity are always attractive to us but a part of that has now gone wrt to being thin.

just for context I’m what the internet would call mid size and I’d love to be eligible for the injections but I’m not. I could almost definitely lose weight the traditional way but now I know there is an ‘easy’ alternative out there I some how feel cheated in some way because I need to work at it whilst others can get an injection to do it. I know that sounds pathetic but just being honest.

There's some mad comments on here.

Ozempic and their ilk helps people.

They are a class of drugs that helps people.

What would prefer?

Fat people to stay fat so they can keep their feeling of being morally superior and more valuable to society. There no other fathomable reason people dont support a medication to treat a genetic hormonal issue that contributes to obesity.

Seems like that.

Doesn't it?

Xenia · 03/11/2024 12:06

I always found those videos of the very rare African tribe where they feed girls until they are obese very interesting although bit is cruel to the girls and even then that culture of being obese being beautiful is starting to change. I don't think weight loss jabs are likely to change what people see as healthy or beautiful. It is harder to move around etc if you are obese so I doubt people will be rushing to become so for beauty reasons. I don't think I would use a weight loss injection as am not keen on pills etc. I've never even been on the contraceptive pill, but others can if they can afford it - it's a free country.

Disturbia81 · 03/11/2024 12:07

@Relaxedandchilled I don't think you can read properly.. my post is literally in support of the injections. Do you love starting arguments with everyone, even the people on your side? 😂

Gloriana1 · 03/11/2024 12:08

FFS @Xenia, you've been around a long time.

It's not a challenge to maintain muscle at all. Eat protein, and exercise. It's not rocket science.

Well if people were doing that properly in the first place, they wouldn’t need a GLP1.

Yes, depressingly, I conclude from frequent posts on here about ‘cheating’ and the ‘gotcha!’ of snooping through your MIL’s fridge for the pens which disprove her claims to be doing it via diet and exercise, that a significant minority of people just want others to stay fat so they can despise their lack of self-control.

’Cheating’ via using weight loss drugs is rapidly gaining on the usual Mn usage of cheating meaning infidelity.

Skinny isn't attractive but healthy and slim is, there's an obvious difference between a healthy weight and an unhealthy, under fed thinness.

I'm on the bigger side now but I've seen people losing weight with things like SW and they get to a point where if they don't stop they begin to look less attractive because they are too thin.

Arraminta · 03/11/2024 12:12

I'm on Mounjaro. Just for the hard of thinking:

You still have to reduce your calories.
You cannot scoff chocolate and still lose weight.
You still have to exercise restraint.
You still have to make healthy choices.

I'm thinking of getting a t-shirt printed with this on.

What an odd comment, because people gain weight doesn’t mean they don’t exercise or eat enough protein, and how is it specific to weight loss injections,

some of these comments are utterly bizzare. Like I assume you’re glad it’s anonymous level of bizzare.

Really.

What is skinny to you?

Actually I think it’s mainly fat people who can’t get the drugs, either as they aren’t quite fat enough or can’t afford it, that are royally pissed off and making rhe most negative comments. Genuinely. I don’t think in the main this is think women wanting others to stay fat. Although there is some of that, I think it’s mainly fat people who want the drugs and can’t get them and are having a go as they are envious of the ones who have them,

Gloriana1 · 03/11/2024 12:17

Madness.

I'm 9.5 stone and 5' 8".

I'm a bit chunky round the middle.

I'm not skinny now. I'm slim-ish.

MJ makes you feel shit. Some people may opt for a lifetime of that but it’s not a pleasant way to live your life.

This is simply not true. I’m on Mounjaro and feel fantastic. I’ve yet to experience a single side effect and it’s the same for everyone I know that’s on it.

This ^ same for me and everyone I know who's on MJ.

Don't know anything about Ozempic.

Loobyloo9 · 03/11/2024 12:21

I thought it was all a toned gym body in fashion now .using weights at the gym .
It's just the obese really using the injections, and obese with extra pennies to buy them .
Plus they dont work for everyone, some of us loose weight very slowly on the injections..
I don't think much will change really

@Relaxedandchilled if you saw the full quote history you’d see it started with my comment That’s because maintaining muscle on GLP1s will be quite a challenge, but those that do it well will look fantastic Very renowned doctors and trainers are making specific muscle sparing diets and workouts specifically for people on GLP1s as, with any significant weight loss, muscle is likely to be lost if you don’t know what you’re doing. What percentage of women do you think consistently hit their daily protein for muscle?
I agree with @Disturbia81 , you’re arguing with the wrong people 😂

I’m not. Glp-s are no different to losing a lot of weight through diet alone. This is the point I’m making,

Refreshingpie · 03/11/2024 12:26

What happens when the target weight is achieved on these injections do people have to just stop them ? Won’t all the ‘food noise’ come back immediately?

This is repeated multiple times in the thread, no you can stay on mounjaro for life. Ozemoic and wegovy you need to come off I think after two years.

But if you stay on it for life won’t you become underweight ? Or can it be given in a really tiny maintenance dose? With the ones you can only have for 2 years what happens then will it be like yoyo dieting and people will put the weight back on ?

LoveSandbanks · 03/11/2024 12:32

bozzabollix · 03/11/2024 07:43

I’m mid size and peri menopausal. At my age I need to be building muscle and stopping bone density from becoming worse as much as I can. Surely the injections do the absolute opposite to this? Get to the gym and get strong. It’s not all about appearance.

I’m now past peri and my weight was causing very high blood pressure. I’ve lost almost 3st on Mounjaro, I run regularly and weight train.

Ive been able to chuck my blood pressure meds away!

You go to a maintenance dose, which is lower and less frequent. Ive seen a lot of people swap from wegovy to mounjaro already. Overall its the "better" medication.
