Do you think being thin will become less desirable now it’s more attainable?

I was just thinking about this, being thin has always been seen as something desirable but not something that everyone could manage for whatever reason but now with weight loss injections it’s something that’s open to many more people.

Things with an element of rarity are always attractive to us but a part of that has now gone wrt to being thin.

just for context I’m what the internet would call mid size and I’d love to be eligible for the injections but I’m not. I could almost definitely lose weight the traditional way but now I know there is an ‘easy’ alternative out there I some how feel cheated in some way because I need to work at it whilst others can get an injection to do it. I know that sounds pathetic but just being honest.

People CAN still have muscle of course but you have to work hard at it. Most people won't.

I’m sorry I disagree totally however if you’ve any link to prove what you’re saying I will stand down, but I strongly suspect you don’t.

THIS.

I lost 7stone on Mounjaro and, although I am definitely feeling the benefits of being a healthy BMI (physical and, just in general being treated as a better human being by others Hmm), they leave you with no muscle mass or physical strength. It's just the reality, you can't lose the weight via the calorie deficit method without also losing most of your muscle.

I've been working with a PT since I reached my "goal weight" and stopped the injections and have seen some good change, but yes, the new desirable will be slim but also fit as fuck and lean with muscle.

You didn’t do enough exercise when you were losing weight and started with a PT after you got to your GW
My mother is on Mounjaro and exercises five days a week. She has great muscle tone .
Any weight loss method should be accompanied by some type of strength training in order to retain or build muscle

I’ve lost 7kg on MJ and I feel amazing! No side effects, I’m eating super healthy meals, no unhealthy and unnecessary snacks. I exercise 4 times a week and haven’t lost any strength - can still squat and deadlift, shoulder and chest press the same as I could before. I’m eating way more mindfully and therefore better.

I look better and both physically and mentally feel amazing. Wish I had done this years ago!

When everyone is slim beauty standards tend to go up don’t they? It’s longer be enough to be slim to be considered pretty or even average. You’ll need to have the right kind of skin, skin shade, bone structure. Just look at Korea and Nigeria.

GinForBreakfast · 06/11/2024 11:32

"Slim" was never enough to be pretty. But who the hell cares? It shouldn't be the focus. Healthy body weights should be about health, not looks.

Thisistyresome · 06/11/2024 11:44

No.

There is a range of maximally attractive weights and within that will always be the most attractive. Over weight and unhealthily under weight will always be less attractive.

In novels from 1740 to 1950 being thin is much more often seen as ugly or undesirable than attractive: "skinny" "boney" "clavicles like salt cellars" "puny" "meagre" "dried up" "drumstick legs" are phrases I remember. I think a bit of cover is inherently more attractive than very thin especially in older women. Once we get ozempic in the drinking water we will probably go back to the historical default preference of a little plump being preferred.

There is an attractive range and it doesn't really change. "thin" in 1800 would be what we regard as unhealthy, Anorexic looks are not attractive and have always been that way.

Gloriana1 · 11/11/2024 05:08

I've got 'clavicles like salt sellars'.

Skinny bitch.

No tits.

I've heard it all.

At 51 I'm not even that thin at 5' 8" and 9.5 Stone.

It's boring.

No because evolutionary-wise we will all prefer mates that can hunt and run from a tiger.

You don't want someone who is thin then. Fit, healthy, strong, muscular and carrying a bit of extra weight/body fat would have been the ideal, not someone who is not going to get through the next famine, or winter weather.

Gloriana1 · 11/11/2024 05:23

I've got friends on the injections, & I'm nothing but delighted for them.

They weren't the ones that were horrible to me for being 'skinny'.

I was 7st 11lbs for years at 5' 8".

After children about 9 stone.

I never restricted food, I'm from a thin family.

Didn’t like being called names.

Injections don't make it easy. They just level the playing field.
