There's only one floating pile of garbage in this story and it lives in Mar a Lago.

To Kamala Harris and all the other Democratic candidates on the ballot - May your courage, determination and hard work bring you the success you deserve. ❤️
To Donald (Jessica) Trump - May you get everything you deserve... and then some.

Welcome @dudsville
These threads are sane and informative.

He didn’t. The Biden administration was responsible for the Afghanistan withdrawal. Trump was out power by then.

trump wasn't president by then, but he (his administration) put in the withdrawal plan. like leaving a dump in the toilet of the house of your ex.

A journalist from Iowa

https://x.com/lyzl/status/1852854833285570566

People want to know how Iowa could swing towards Harris, when the state has been solidly red for so long and let me tell you, as someone who lives here & writes about this state. It’s the abortion ban. Women are furious.

60 percent of Iowans support abortion in all or most circumstances. Many Iowans remember a time before Roe. They remember life without choice and bodily autonomy. Kim Reynolds and the Iowa republicans passed a near total abortion ban. And people are mad.

I don’t make predictions. But last two weeks, talking to organizers and politicians who have been on the ground and door knocking were full of hope, which is no small feat. I guess we will see.

The Iowa poll is only one poll and we've constantly reminded ourselves on these threads "polls aren't results" but it does seem like a tiny, tiny light in the distance. I feel like I'm at the pantomime and being asked to clap and cheer loudly so that Tinkerbell's light doesn't go out! (No - I've not started on the wine earlier than usual 😂)

Whatever the veracity of the Selzer poll is we can be sure that a certain orange 💩 is going to be mightily pissed off today. Will be interesting to see if he's sedated up to eyeballs or if he's going to go into full melt down.

I agree re it being one poll, what I would say though is it’s one poll in a fairly ‘safe’ state for Trump and that tells its own story. It shouldn’t (by Trump’s measure) be close enough in Iowa for any poll to show him losing.

SNL

I loved that! Xtwitter informs me that MAGAs are calling it unfair. Also that what you and I saw as deliberately vulgar behaviour with a microphone the other day was perfectly justifiable in context.

This is Dan Pfeiffer's take on the poll - he's one of my top go-to people on what the polling actually means, rather than just reporting the numbers.

I tend to agree, even if she doesn’t win Iowa hopefully it points to momentum that we’ll see replicated elsewhere.

I saw that too. It's almost impossible to understand what a complete babbling moron that man is.

He is honestly deranged. Does he realise Hannibal Lecter is just a made up character in a film?!

And the only weave he has is the one on his hair on his head.

borntobequiet · 03/11/2024 11:22

I don’t think that Trump is properly able to distinguish reality from fiction.

This is a verbatim transcript of Trump speaking at a rally yesterday.

Even that transcript is doing him some favours, the punctuation adds some sort of framework but I can guarantee that there are a lots of commas inserted in that transcript where Trump did not pause at all and his disjointed phrases just ran into each other.

He STILL doesn't understand the difference between being in an insane asylum and requesting political asylum

Trump thinks it = fact.

That's as far as he goes.

The Trump administration negotiated the withdrawal with the Taliban, excluding the Afghan government.

There is genuinely no point in bothering to tell fact to fools. They won't admit them. It's like teaching a pigeon to play chess.

SnakesAndArrows · 03/11/2024 13:54

Just checking into this thread as it seems to be a good source of information. I’m still not daring to let myself hope for a Trump defeat - waking to a text from my DS “USA, what have you done?” in 2016 is still very fresh in my mind.

I’ve just seen a Harris endorsement ad from the cast of the West Wing and I seem to have something in my eye.

That’s not really fair….. I’ve always found pigeons to be pretty intelligent…

😂😂 okay in fairness exactly how I imagine an interaction with Trump would go.

DuncinToffee · 03/11/2024 13:51

States with abortion bans are becoming medical care deserts. No decent gynae doctor wants to practice there for fear of prosecution. It has knock on effects for the whole system. Voters are noticing.

Oh, that LP video! Will whoever is chopping onions, please stop it!

Seriously, the first ('non partisan) part of that video dealing with the importance of the Presidency and its power to shape our collective future should be shown in every HS Civics class in the US. They taught us the 'facts and basics' of our Govt but not how important it is to be a good 'political' citizen regardless of your party.
