I just listened to a forrin podcast about the vote.
they said the candidates are irrelevant, could just as well be between a chair and a cup of tea. pest & cholera.

both are horrible options when it comes to women's rights.

So, apart from the no external wars thing (his administration did set a really fucked up Afghanistan withdrawal timeline), what do you like about him?

And do you mean foreign as in, you are not in the US and it was a US podcast, or that you are in the US and have listened to one from outside? And specifically what podcast was it? It's difficult to rate its credibility with no actual information.

When I checked the betting odds - Trump is the favourite by a wide margin. Despite the criticism of Trump a huge swathe of people are voting for him. Many have felt their views have been ignored over the years and for good or ill he has latched on to this. It will be awful to see Trump elected, but sadly American politics are polarised (as indeed world politics have become). For those individuals who support policies that reflect their views they have to take the good and ill of the
Presidential candidate who will forward those policies.
The issue is also bedevilled with the issue of a personality cult of Trump but then this is part of the late 20th and early 21st century way of life elevating pop stars, actors, influencers, and politicians to Demigod status.

He was elected in 2016 despite his disgusting "grab em by the pussy" remarks and his disgraceful mockery of the disabled journalist, both of which, amongst many other things, had things been normal, should have eliminated him from making any progress at all. But no. This is why I won't be surprised at all if he is re-elected. Disappointed, sad for democracy, yes, but not surprised.

Does anyone else get a feeling this thread may have been "discovered"? There are a couple of threads I am on which suffered in this way, and in the end the noise tended to drown out the signal; DNFTT is a good motto, perhaps.

It's to be expected. The run up to the UK general election was the same as well as the farage riot threads.

If Trump is genuinely struggling in Iowa he's in trouble and the pollster is considered a good one.

538 presently has Trump winning 270 electoral college votes to Harris's ... 268.

The polls over the last couple of weeks showed a shift towards Trump but now they show a shift back again.
According to 538 Trump will win Iowa by 9% so maybe the above is a rogue poll.

Phew! I found you all just ahead of the election. Fortunately someone had posted a link in a quiet thread in Politics. I knew you’d all still be tucked away somewhere on MN documenting and commenting assiduously. It’s been so long since I last checked in I couldn’t remember where you’d hunkered down.

I was an avid lurker and infrequent poster prior to/post the 2016 election. These threads are an amazing resource - thank you.

I am off work at the mo so able to keep stupid hours and follow the results live this time. I’ll be keeping up with the thread, even if I’m not posting much.

The Trump administration negotiated the withdrawal with the Taliban, excluding the Afghan government.
