Do people use teapots in real life?

DYIDIY · 29/10/2024 16:48

I see them all the time on insta reels and in cafes obv but haven’t seen people using them in real life for ages. I’d love a nice one for myself but I think it migjt just be a waste of money and will never get used. Do you have one and use it? Any recommended ones in terms of practicality but also beauty? I quite like the clear glass ones or the black japanese looking style, not sure what they are called.

The only time I've ever used a teapot was when I was a student and making mushroom tea. I thought it would be funny to get a full tea service from the charity shop and set it all out as a tea party. It was indeed very funny.

Husband uses one at least twice a day and proceeds to drain it within an hour!

I have a knitted tea cosy that I bought off Etsy

I make my own tea cosy out of old wool bobble hats!

Yes, have a large and smaller stainless steel teapots. Used daily for well over 30 years now. We use M&S extra strong loose leaf tea and everyone who has a cuppa at our house comments on how nice it is. A good cup of tea is the ultimate relaxation beverage!

Ooh same here re M&S extra strong leaf tea. It’s lovely. I have that every day, made in a pot. It really does taste so much better.

Petrine · 29/10/2024 17:47

I always use one, even just for one cup (I have a number of different sizes). I think the tea tastes much nicer and of course you can use loose tea as well.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 29/10/2024 17:47

I do. I have a grey Le Creuset one. There's something so charming about spooning loose leaf tea into the pot and it tastes loads nicer than tea bags.

Without going full on tea ceremony, having tea in a pot and pouring for guests adds a little social occasion. It feels like hosting and sharing.

Squishing and hoiking teabags out of mugs to lob in a bin is always going to be an ugly business.

Cable1905 · 29/10/2024 17:49

Tea tastes much better from a teapot. We are all tea jennies and love extra cups when having a leisurely breakfast. We also have a teapot in our campervan. Couldn’t just dunk a teabag in a mug.

Just2again · 29/10/2024 17:50

We use a teapot every time tea is required with a tea cosy, so several times a day. It has a much more mellow flavour out of a pot. I dislike tea made in a mug, it’s quite acrid and stains the mug. My dc have teapots at their homes for when we visit

Right that’s it.

I haven’t used a teapot for many years but you guys have changed my mind! Mine is currently gathering dust on the shelf but tomorrow, it’s getting a good clean then I’m making a nice, strong pot of tea. I might even try to buy some loose leaf tea after reading the comments here.

Thanks!

TizerorFizz · 29/10/2024 17:52

Yes. We have 4 teapots. Varying in size. Smallest is ceramic with an internal tea leaf holder and strainer. We use very good teas and it’s perfect! Use the bigger teapots when we have visitors.

Genevieva · 29/10/2024 17:53

Yes. Every day. And I have a small one for when it’s just me. Big enough for a mug and a top up.

Rollonsummerplease · 29/10/2024 17:56

I've got 6 or 7 teapots - including a couple of individual sized ones.
I used to have more but had a bit of a disaster in the kitchen a few years ago and broke some.
I have ground coffee with breakfast, teabag in a big breakfast cup at lunch time but in the evening it's always a pot of tea made with leaf tea. I really prefer teapot tea and the beauty is you can top it up with hot water and make it go a long way.
My favourite tea pots are a couple of Roy Kirkham hand painted ones. And i have the big breakfast cups to match the tea pots.

quirkychick · 29/10/2024 17:58

We use a stainless steel teapot for Greek Mountain Tea and I use a small Chinese style teapot for loose leaf jasmine tea. We don't use it every day, but a lot of days.

Isthisjustnormal · 29/10/2024 17:58

We use a teapot - and loose tea - everyday. Can’t think the last time I used a mug to make tea tbh, other than occasionally for fruit/herb teas. Tea tastes nicer; much easier for loose tea (the pot has an jntenal mesh container for tea leaves); and allows us to have a couple of cups each (we also have a lovely tea cosy to keep the pot warm.

schloss · 29/10/2024 17:59

Brown Betty teapots (in blue) for us here, many differing sizes but tend to use the bigger ones so can have more then 1 cup!

I find I function so much better during the day if I have multiple cups of Earl Grey tea first thing!

Bettergetthebunker · 29/10/2024 17:59

Yes it’s nice to be able to bring a pot to a table with sugar and milk for guests.

Edit to say, you can also taste the bag when it’s not loose leaf

Divebar2021 · 29/10/2024 17:59

Rituals around drinks are the basis for good presents I think …. I have a Japanese enamel tea pot from Labour & Wait. My tea cosy is patchwork and dates back to the 40’s by the look of the fabric ( was MIL’s ). Fortnums do lovely loose teas which are great for prezzies…I’m not very adventurous but they have great ranges of tins and caddies. One of my Christmas traditions is buying foods from there for stocking fillers.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 29/10/2024 17:59

Yes. And I use loose tea leaves too. And a tea strainer. Every day, at least three times a day.

So does my mum and my siblings. Tea bag tea is inferior but I tolerate it when at other peoples houses.

MrsNotquiteAverage · 29/10/2024 18:00

We use one every time, usually with teabags, 2 Tetley and 1 Earl Grey.
We like it. Special occasions with loose leaf tea.

Octavia64 · 29/10/2024 18:02

Yes.

There are lots of types of tea you can't get as tea bags and my house has two tea fiends in it.

I particularly like Chinese blooming tea and puer tea.

OptimisticMermaid · 29/10/2024 18:06

I alway’s use a teapot. You get 2 good cups with a teabag rather than 1.

Dellaandthedealer · 29/10/2024 18:10

Yes, Denby teapot used every day, sometimes with loose tea, sometimes bags.

Only way to make a proper cup of tea.
