Do people use teapots in real life?

DYIDIY · 29/10/2024 16:48

I see them all the time on insta reels and in cafes obv but haven’t seen people using them in real life for ages. I’d love a nice one for myself but I think it migjt just be a waste of money and will never get used. Do you have one and use it? Any recommended ones in terms of practicality but also beauty? I quite like the clear glass ones or the black japanese looking style, not sure what they are called.

I have a Forlife stump teapot. My husband bought it for me after I used one in a tea room.

I think it's brilliant, loose leaf tea is so much tastier than tea made from tea bags. The strainer is made of metal and the whole thing can go in the dishwasher.

NotUnderMyUmbrella · 29/10/2024 19:22

I enjoy using one. I have a large le creuset one for a crowd, and a small one for two or three.

I think to get the full benefit of them you need a tea cosy as well, so your second cup is still piping hot.

dramalamma · 29/10/2024 19:23

Always! As in i made it in a cup this afternoon cos i was the only one home and i registered that it had been months since id made it in a cup. I have to admit we have a thermal (so it keeps warm) stainless steel one which we dont wash every time.... it also helps that everyone drinks the same tea so it very rarely goes to waste. I even take mine on holiday if we're driving - i do love it very much

All the time, hate builders tea!!

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 29/10/2024 19:25

Every day

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 29/10/2024 19:26

Yea, we do. We have a 1.7l teapot that takes the full kettle of water and make tea in that. You can serve 4 or 5 cups out of that, or two bigger ones that you just keep topping up. We use it all the time.

QueSyrahSyrah · 29/10/2024 19:27

I have a 3 cup from Emma Bridgewater and use it from time to time on a cosy afternoon when I know I'm going to be settled in for a bit.

Whilst on the subject of teapots, tea tastes even better from a teapot when poured into a china cup or mug.

MargaretThursday · 29/10/2024 19:34

My dad loves his teapots.

We got I think it was 4 as wedding presents because every time someone took it off the list because they'd bought it he looked at the list and thought "what isn't on there, which I'd like - oh a teapot". 🤣

He also has a teapot cosy which he sometimes wears on his head when he's cooking.

Hagpie · 29/10/2024 19:34

Hahaha I just bought one for our first “afternoon tea” for our children. It’s already looking like a pain in the butt to wash up. 🤭

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 29/10/2024 19:42

Yes! I have a lovely Country Traditionals one with 4 cups and saucers and a little milk jug from the same range. I only use the pot if I'm making more than 1 cup. If I'm only making one cup I use a mesh thing that sits in the cup. I use loose leaf tea a lot of the time and have quite a few different ones. I knitted my own tea cosy!

I drink a lot of tea, do make it in a pot and save a fortune on tea bags.

Itsannamay · 29/10/2024 19:45

I'm in shock that so many don't have a teapot. Do those people drink tea?

Yes, have one and it's used every day.

We have one in the office and it's used at every break.

Both are stainless steel. Stellar

HidingFromDD · 29/10/2024 19:47

Glass with an insert as I like loose leaf tea. Usually drink green or ‘fancy’ teas though and don’t use milk. Not sure it would make that much difference if you like Yorkshire tea bags, although you’d probably get a couple of cups from one tea bag

VerySweatyBetty1 · 29/10/2024 19:48

I do! DH's influence initially. Now together 26 years. I use teapots at work as well, much to everyone's amusement. My mum got one in for me for when I visited - she called me The Duchess!

I don't use loose tea alas - too messy. But teabags in a pot still way better than teabag in a mug

Sortumn · 29/10/2024 19:49

I use loose leaf tea but fine it easier to use a coffee press than a teapot.

TonTonMacoute · 29/10/2024 19:52

Yes.

Switcher · 29/10/2024 19:54

Nearly every day. A standard Denby one that can take a few knocks. We don't wash it up. I'm 46.

Why would you need to wash it up? Just rinse it out. I use teabags so no loose leaves to faff around with.

HippyChickMama · 29/10/2024 20:00

Two teapots here too, a one cup glass one with a built in strainer and a six cup ceramic one that we use with an over cup strainer. Loose leaf tea is so much better, my favourite is the house blend from Tŷ Hyll in North Wales

DaftyLass · 29/10/2024 16:54

I have three (different size) and yes, you can taste the difference, same as you can with different temperatures of water.

Yea from a pot is much nicer, and the teapot goes through the dishwasher so not a big deal to clean

Nooooooo - it mustn't go into the dishwasher EVER or the patina will get destroyed. Mine is a cheap white pot but it only gets cleaned from the outside and very carefully around the rim. For the inside, nothing more than rinsing.

Deadringer · 29/10/2024 20:09

I have a stainless steel Teapot so nothing fancy, I hate a teabag in a cup it doesn't taste the same as a proper brew.

purplecorkheart · 29/10/2024 20:10

I have a selection. I use none of them the majority of the time. My parents were gifted one as a wedding present years ago as a wedding gift. I loved it as a child and when I moved into my own place they gifted to me. I keep it on my kitchen window. Since then I have been gifted many teapots as people assumed I collect them. I am a coffee drinker!

Vettrianofan · 29/10/2024 20:12

Do people use teapots?!?!?!?!?

Yes...every day! I have a back up in case it breaks, that's how much I value teapots.

DazedAndConfused321 · 29/10/2024 20:12

I do, I also boil water in a kettle on the aga- I love to make my life harder it seems
