Do people use teapots in real life?

I see them all the time on insta reels and in cafes obv but haven’t seen people using them in real life for ages. I’d love a nice one for myself but I think it migjt just be a waste of money and will never get used. Do you have one and use it? Any recommended ones in terms of practicality but also beauty? I quite like the clear glass ones or the black japanese looking style, not sure what they are called.

I took mine to the charity shop last week! I can't remember when we last used it so out it went

DYIDIY · 29/10/2024 17:25

To those saying it tastes better, can I ask why? And how do yoh prepare it? Is it the water/teabag ratio?

Yes, I have a single cup one and a four cup one. I use loose leaf tea, have about 6 types in the cupboard, courtesy of a lovely local shop that sells it. Sometimes use a tea ball in a mug instead if I don’t have time to brew (or wash) the pot.

Absolutely! We use a 6 cup Poole pottery one, makes a lovely cup of tea. Use with a tea cosy, so there's seconds too.

LaPalmaLlama · 29/10/2024 17:28

If it’s just me I dunk the bag but if for two or more I use the pot. If my mother comes over I always use the pot regardless of number of tea drinkers :-). Growing up we used loose tea and DM had this amazing embossed metal tea pot with a black handle. No tea pot has ever made such good tea as that

You don't get an oily residue on top of the brew with a pot. 2 strong teabags and 3/4 pot full. And a woolly cosy. Leave to brew for 5 mins.

For one cup? No; the cleanup isn't worth it. But if I'm making 2+ then yes, it's the teapot.

Me too. Even if you only use bags, you get extra cups of tea for the same amount of bags. A no brainer.

jen337 · 29/10/2024 17:29

Yes we use a teapot (one of the cheap glass strainer ones from ikea) and whole leaf loose tea (from brew tea). 100% worth it. Can’t drink that teabag shite anymore.

OnTheBounce · 29/10/2024 17:30

Whaaaaaat?! Yes! Every day, the thing barely has time to get cold. You can't brew tea properly in a mug. And two teabags makes four cups, so it's more economical. If we stay in an AurBNB or holiday cottage without a teapot, the first thing I do is go to a charity shop to find one.

DS insists on making a bag in a cup but that's because he likes to mash the bag against the side and doesn't pay for teabags.

CountryShepherd · 29/10/2024 17:30

I rinse it out every time and run it through the dishwasher once a fortnight. The patina is important.

Callosity · 29/10/2024 17:31

We use one too. They’re not messy at all, and make a better brew.

schloss · 29/10/2024 17:31

Always use a teapot whether for a single cup of tea or more than one. Sometimes use teabags but also use loose leaf tea.

I do believe the tea tastes better as others have said.

BoundaryLine · 29/10/2024 17:32

It does taste better, but I only use them in a cafe. I don't own one anymore.

ChristmasTeaCosy · 29/10/2024 17:33

I find the teabag/water ratio is all wrong in a mug with the teabags we use. We like Clipper and the stronger Twinings varieties. A single teabag in a single mug is too strong if left in long enough to develop the flavour. But a single bag brewed in a teapot with enough water for two mugs is just right.

Love, love, love a teacosy! I have them for all seasons. Including a Christmas one with bells on. Grin

Katypp · 29/10/2024 17:34

Denby tea pot, tea cosy and loose leaf Irish breakfast tea. Would not dream of making tea any other way. I despise a teabag in a cup, to me it's a totally different - and pretty disgusting - drink. I never go back to cafes if I don't get a tea pot of tea.

GreenMarigold · 29/10/2024 17:35

I have a teapot and really want to like it and use it but I just prefer the taste of a mug of tea! I’m the only tea drinker in the house and there’s rarely a reason to make more than 1 mug at a time. It never gets used.

AlwaysPerplexed · 29/10/2024 17:36

I use it constantly with leaf tea (I don't use teabags as I compost the tea). I use one with an integrated strainer - and put it in the dishwasher regularly . It's not very attractive (glass with lots of plastic) so when it does I shall replace it with a similar but perhaps glass with stainless steel.

OllysArmyRidesAgain · 29/10/2024 17:36

DH drinks lots of tea and always uses a pot, we have a single mug, 3 mug and 6 mug options available.
I am not a vast tea drinker and tend to briefly show a tea bag to some hot water if I feel the need for tea but if we have guests I will always use a pot.
My parents always use a pot, as did my grandparents and I do wonder if it is a generational thing.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 29/10/2024 17:40

Yes! Every week, quite nice of an evening to make a pot , tea stays warm especially when it's on the coffee table in front of the fire and tea definitely tastes better. I had a glass one but gave it away, cools down too quickly. Also they're great when you have guests, quicker to make a pot than 4/5 cups and by putting out milk and sugar for people to use themselves, everyone gets tea how they like it

InMySpareTime · 29/10/2024 17:40

This is my lovely teapot. When the previous one cracked I almost cried, and I ordered this one straight away. I had to use my backup teapot for two days and it wasn't quite the same.
Danger mouse tea cosy was a gift, as was the mug. With the cosy on, the tea stays hot for over an hour, which is plenty of time for me to drink a litre of tea.

I have a teapot, a butter dish and a salt pig (I didn't know what a salt pig was until a few months ago) - little pleasures and I love them.

ThePoshUns · 29/10/2024 17:41

Yes every day. Tea tastes much better when it's made in a pot.

Bestinshow22 · 29/10/2024 17:42

Yes, always. I hate tea 'made in the cup'. I have a small one-person pot I use every day, and a bigger one for when we have guests.

I don't find it any extra hassle, it goes in the dishwasher along with the mug.

widelegenes · 29/10/2024 17:42

I have a small one which holds 1 1/2 cups and a large one for entertaining.

ThePoshUns · 29/10/2024 17:44

I have a knitted tea cosy that I bought off Etsy
