Do people use teapots in real life?

DYIDIY · 29/10/2024 16:48

I see them all the time on insta reels and in cafes obv but haven’t seen people using them in real life for ages. I’d love a nice one for myself but I think it migjt just be a waste of money and will never get used. Do you have one and use it? Any recommended ones in terms of practicality but also beauty? I quite like the clear glass ones or the black japanese looking style, not sure what they are called.

Ours is used several times a week, complete with tea cosy!

Moveoverdarlin · 29/10/2024 17:07

I do. MIL does, Mum does. Best mates Mum does. Lots of people still use them.

fussychica · 29/10/2024 17:08

We use a glass one every day, twice a day. When we go one holiday, self catering, whether UK or abroad it's rare to be provided with one. We hate tea made in a mug so if we have the car we'll take a pyrex jug with us as that's multi purpose and a bit tougher than our teapot.
I also have a pretty single cup teapot which sits in the cup, from a NT shop in the sale, if I remember rightly.

DH has one with a metal filter insert that he uses for his fancy teas. He has a cup and saucer too.

TentEntWenTyfOur · 29/10/2024 17:09

I used a small teapot when I lived on my own for a while. I still have it, and we do have a bigger one, but they both languish at the back of a cupboard.

UnravellingTheWorld · 29/10/2024 17:09

For one cup? No; the cleanup isn't worth it. But if I'm making 2+ then yes, it's the teapot.

muddyford · 29/10/2024 17:09

Yes, two stainless steel ones, a large and a small one, used every time I make tea, three or four times a day. Tea made in a mug doesn't taste the same. Mine are a non-drip type but are no longer available.

muddyford · 29/10/2024 17:10

And a tea cosy!

Changeyourfuckingcar · 29/10/2024 17:12

I don’t personally, although fancy the idea should I ever have more kitchen storage space, but my ex’s dad used to be evangelical about his tea and would have a whole process to making the perfect cup of tea with his whopping great teapot and a series of exacting steps 😂

UseOfWeapons · 29/10/2024 17:13

Every morning! Like a teapot! 2 decent mugs of tea, strong, better than a teabag in a cup in my opinion.

cheapskatemum · 29/10/2024 17:13

Yes, I do. It's a morning ritual: get up & make a pot of tea. I use loose leaf Assam and Kenyan (Kericho Gold), about half a tbsp of each & brew for 4 minutes. I pour out 3 large mugfuls, using a strainer. I add milk to one mug straight away & drink it, then heat the others up in the microwave when I'm ready for them, then add milk.

One teapot looks a lot like the blue one upthread, but it says Teapot & Co on the bottom of it. I bought it in a charity shop. I've got a large white one, which I think I bought in Sainsbury's & a smaller Teatime Collection one which a friend gave me.

Whatnextaaaahhh · 29/10/2024 17:14

We have one but don't use it every day. We use it when we have guests or if we are having a fry up for breakfast.

ImthatBoleyngirl · 29/10/2024 17:14

My mum does. She says it tastes better.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/10/2024 17:15

Yes. Tea tastes far better made in a pot. Ours is not decorative, it's functional. It's made of stainless steel and it lives in a corner of the worktop near the kettle under its cosy. It gets rinsed out, not washed up. Minimal effort required.

reluctantbrit · 29/10/2024 17:16

We have three, two glass and one stoneware pot.

But we mainly drink loose tea, especially if I am working from home. DH would just plonk a tea bag in the mug but I love having a pot of tea and enjoying it over the time before heading to my desk.

strangeandfamiliar · 29/10/2024 17:16

We do. Recently switched to an enamel one though as DH is clumsy and we'd got through several pretty ceramic ones!

I use one every day - for me and dh every morning it gives us each a mug full, then a top up, then (for me) another top up. I like more than one mugful in the morning. I also have a tea cosy to keep it warm. I always have a Le Creuset teapot, bright colour usually and the rounded style. I find it pours well with no drips. We break things a lot in our house so I've been through probably 6 or 7 but now I buy them on Vinted and they aren't too pricey that way.

My sister tells me I'm the only person under the age of 70 who uses a tea cosy....but maybe there are a few of us! 😊

MrsMagoooo · 29/10/2024 17:19

I use one every day because we're a household of tea drinkers. And at the weekend the pot comes up to bed with me for my lie-in/read-a-thon.

And I don't really ever wash it, it gets rinsed but that's it, it has a tea patina on the inside.

My dear departed Aunty knitted it for me as a housewarming gift many years ago and it means a lot to me to use it every day. It actually works as well, means I can keep drinking hot tea for half an hour if I want to!

ThisTimeNextWeekDavid · 29/10/2024 17:21

Yep, got a lovely white one from Portmeirion. Use it regularly with a big red and white spotted tea cozy.

Tea pots are so ‘homely’ (in the non American sense).

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 29/10/2024 17:22

We use a teapot every day at breakfastime. It means we both get a mug of tea and if either/both of us want a top up it's already made.

Thighdentitycrisis · 29/10/2024 17:22

My mum does and in her 80’s. She has a stainless steel pot from the 1960s

Gloriousgardener11 · 29/10/2024 17:22

Yes, every time I make tea it’s in a pot.
Tastes totally different to a bag in a mug plus I like a tea topper as well.

BobbyBiscuits · 29/10/2024 17:23

I think if your quite geekily into tea then you need one. I didn't realise that electric kettles were quite unusual in the states.
I bought one when I lived in NY and my roommate immediately started using it to cook ramen noodles, inside the kettle? She was a bit odd. But I realised that most kitchens over there don't have electric kettles. They drink coffee from a filter machine and boil water in mic or on stove?

CoffeeBeansGalore · 29/10/2024 17:23

Dh loves tea. For last year's wedding anniversary I bought him a glass teapot with metal insert for loose leaf tea & a tea cosy. It makes 2 cups. I can't stand tea so he gets it all to himself 😁.
