If you were having a new kitchen, what colour would you choose?

I am looking at new kitchens as mine is dated and looking scruffy. I was thinking of an all white gloss modern look but there are such lovely colours available I wonder if I should go for something else. What would you choose if you could have any colour cupboards and worktops?

I’ve got a dark blue kitchen, love it, it will date but so do all kitchens, whatever colour they are. I think if I’m still here in years to come and fancy a change, il paint them or get a new one if I can afford it.

Think back however many years you want to a neutral, classic and timeless kitchen or bathroom, one that was safe and wouldn’t date, I bet you anything after roughly 15 years they looked outdated, everything always does. A neutral 1990s kitchen isn’t timeless now, it looks like an outdated and bland 90s kitchen. Choose what you love, never think of the future or resale, it gets changed in the end anyway!

We have lots of natural oak in our kitchen and larder - with the right lighting, it's absolutely stunning.

Thank you! I've got some converted copper gas lights with John Moncrieff opal shades for the walls, still debating centre light(s). I think oak and copper combines well. I looked at solid copper cupboard pulls but they are ridiculously pricy, so going with black to match our main door handles.

I also have some antique ebonised shelves to carry on the black theme. Of course oven and hob will be black so fingers crossed it all looks in keeping. Interior design is not my strong point, but trying to think of everything!

Thank you for this! I’ve just been looking and it may be a cost-effective way of banishing the evil black granite. I’m excited.

Get excited - I am BEYOND happy with it. I wanted poured concrete but it’s so expensive, love wood but it’s hard on the upkeep and I hate all other forms of worktop - our micro cement ended up being several thousand pounds cheaper than quartz and that’s with them making the worktops from scratch. Highly recommend Bespoke

I filmed in a kitchen that was Inchyra blue and it was glorious. Picture attached.

I was sorely tempted to paint over my own Hague blue shaker style units when I got home. I didn't and I still love my dark blue/marble corian worktop kitchen. But maybe one day. I love a bit of colour. I also filmed in the kitchen in The Pink House and it was a stunner

But my house is full of colour and I'm very much a "do what you love, not what will sell the house" kind of person.

I think what make this so lovely is that the walls are the same blue and it's a really bright light kitchen so can cope with the dark colour. So many colourful kitchen units are paired with neutral walls, this feels more modern because the units fade into the walls

I like cream but that’s what I already have so looking for something different.

Oh no to the gloss!

I like dark blue but that is probably on its way out.

I thought that two years ago when we had ours done but I love it so went ahead anyway. I still love it. It’s usually a lot tidier than this!

Blue is such a restful colour.

Our north facing den is painted Inchyra blue - walls, ceiling, doors. It isn't a huge light room but it looks bloody amazing and feels very cosy. My SIL has a small kitchen that is dark blue and looks great. You can have small colourful rooms if you want. But I agree you should go all in and be adventurous with the walls. If I had wall units I may have been tempted to have some bold tiles. As it is I spend far too long wondering what colour I should paint it next...

I went for pale blue gloss with handles and it isn.t too bad for fingerprints as no children here and easy to clean

I think when you see the one for you, you will know.

We have oak. Put it in about 16 years ago so I’m surprised it’s still fashionable.

We have a large square kitchen. On 3 sides we have units plus oven, hob, fridge etc. With black granite worktops (I love the combo of oak with black). Then we have a central island attached to a table which has white sparkly granite worktop. On the 4th wall we have a big larder unit with cream gloss doors. It all complements well.
