If you were having a new kitchen, what colour would you choose?

I am looking at new kitchens as mine is dated and looking scruffy. I was thinking of an all white gloss modern look but there are such lovely colours available I wonder if I should go for something else. What would you choose if you could have any colour cupboards and worktops?

I'd only have white or cream. I like dark blue and green kitchens but I'd rather change wall colour and accessories than cupboard doors etc

If I had separate utility then I'd probably be more adventurous with that as it would be tucked away more.

We're hopefully getting a new kitchen next year. We had wood effect in our last house and have cream in this house - I have a thing about clean cupboard doors, but the cream is definitely harder work - the kitchen was fitted in 2010 and fronts have permanent marks on them are grubby around the handles, no matter what I do. I imagine gloss would show finger prints more.

I've seen a dusty blue style I really like, but DH has dismissed it - even said he can choose absolutely everything else (as long as it co-ordinates of course!). He's seen a pale sage green he likes - I don't really like green, so asked if I could choose the tiles - he hasn't agreed to that yet, so stalemate😂.

Pic from last Christmas but I love the blue and the granite worktops have very tiny flecks of glitter. Makes me smile. Chose what you love.

My last kitchen was white gloss and I had no problems with finger prints - it always looked fine. However, I did have electric drawers that you had to kick to open (they also opened when the cat crashed into them at speed and caused him to do a back flip!)

I'm just doing a new kitchen now - white plastered hand built stone units, dark natural wood doors with dark copper handles, stone tops, stone floors, microcement splashbacks. I hate quartz, marble, all that speckled stuff. I also loathe built in appliances, so working around that too.

I love sage green ( took inspiration from Kelly Hoppen)
Just had a new one fitted from Parlun.
Similar to photo.
I had a designer come and do a plant wall leading into the conservatory up to the ceiling.
( l do have a very large bungalow.. 4 bedrooms) similar to Jane McDonald's.

Edited

Mine is sage green. I have flat doors though as our previous kitchen was Shaker style and I was forever cleaning greasy dust off the ledges.

I had mine fitted in April this year
Dove grey( gloss, but with rod handles so no fingerprints issue)
Linear oak worktops
LVT flooring which matches the oak

I really like teal colours so a dark teal with a bit of white and gold as well...can't wait to get my own place!

I absolutely love your garlands and will definitely be copying this Christmas 😆

Ours is sage green cabinets with lemon walls. I wanted duck egg blue cabinets but liked the IKEA shaker cabinets which didn't come in that shade.

Pink would also be nice with green or white.

Fizbosshoes · 24/10/2024 16:00

We have a cream shaker style that we put in 17 years ago. I'm a bit bored with it but it's still in ok condition. We agree we will probably paint it (possibly sage green) and we both hate the tiles!

HelpMeGetThrough · 24/10/2024 16:10

We've got Aubergine base units and cream wall units. Would definitely have that again, looks nice, especially when I put on the plinth and under unit lights. Put them on a kind of Premier Inn purple colour and it looks great.

They are high gloss (aka high maintenance) door and drawer fronts, but they wouldn't look right in a matt finish.

Bluevelvetsofa · 24/10/2024 16:30

Nothing with ridges to get dusty. No wood work tops that need regular oiling. No tiles.

Microfibre cloths get rid of finger marks easily. If you don’t see finger marks on your matt doors, they will still be there, just less visible.

balzamico · 24/10/2024 16:52

Until last night we were having stiffkey blue island and elephants breath units.

But today I'm having a major wobble and considering a dark green island with elephants breath units (or lighter?) and breakfast room green on the walls.

Major knock thorough starting January - excited and terrified in equal measures

When I did my kitchen a few years ago, I went t for a solid pine one painted in Farrow and Ball Stony Ground which is a very warm cream. I love it

Samanabanana · 24/10/2024 17:02

If you get cupboard doors that aren't gloss, choose whatever colour you want and have them professionally resprayed when you get bored!

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 24/10/2024 17:10

We went with white since we only have one small velux window and wanted to get as much light as possible. We made it more interesting with wood accents and a photo back splash (the photo is a close up of the view we have from our front terrace - not in the UK).

I've never seen a photo splashback before. That's so smart

Bespoke cupboards f&b Parma grey, units dusk blue

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/10/2024 18:08

Classic matt cream Shaker style.
Maybe a bit boring to some, but it won’t date.

If I couldn’t have that for any reason, I’d go for a sage green, but not too dark.

GreatNorthBun · 24/10/2024 18:09

Mine is green and pink. It's about 3 years old. My previous house was navy blue. I like painted wood kitchens.

If I were to do it now I might go for yellow and green, or another green and pink but a greener green!

Florence4170 · 24/10/2024 18:16

Pink and blue! White worktop whiteish floor white

LoobyDoop2 · 24/10/2024 18:22

I have white gloss that I thought I hated, but I’ve decided it’s actually the lack of handles that I hate. There is one cupboard in particular that I try to open the wrong side every single time, and I’m so sick of it. Handles are nice, anyway. They’re a nice thing to choose and they feel nice to touch if you get the right ones. Why would anyone not want them? Stupid.
