If you were having a new kitchen, what colour would you choose?

I am looking at new kitchens as mine is dated and looking scruffy. I was thinking of an all white gloss modern look but there are such lovely colours available I wonder if I should go for something else. What would you choose if you could have any colour cupboards and worktops?

Not gloss! It shows every little mark/finger print!

I would choose a deep cream - country cottage style units.

Mmm I thought I wanted white handless as well and ended up with a copper effect one! Love it.

Moier · 24/10/2024 13:01

I love sage green ( took inspiration from Kelly Hoppen)
Just had a new one fitted from Parlun.
Similar to photo.
I had a designer come and do a plant wall leading into the conservatory up to the ceiling.
( l do have a very large bungalow.. 4 bedrooms) similar to Jane McDonald's.

Either dark green witchy apothecary vibes or something pastel like sage or rose or maybe bright sunshine yellow.
Urgh this is why I'm rubbish at decorating, I love all themes

Teafortwo01 · 24/10/2024 13:09

I like cream but that’s what I already have so looking for something different.

Oh no to the gloss!

I like dark blue but that is probably on its way out.

@Moier beautiful kitchen. My house is a small terrace with a tiny kitchen!

I'm having the same dilemma right now. I've discounted a gloss finish because of fingerprints, and I'm worried that if I choose a sage green or pink, I'll get sick of seeing it very quickly.
I think white is the safest choice and then add loads of colour with tiles and accessories.
Or maybe...

White shaker. Timeless

StillAtTheRestaurant · 24/10/2024 13:13

I'd go for white (but not gloss) with oak worktops. I think the coloured kitchens that are in right now will date very quickly.

SoupDragon · 24/10/2024 13:14

I'd definitely choose something classic in a neutral colour. Modern/coloured is all very well but could easily date quickly. I'd add colour etc with things that are easily changed.

I love bright colours so love these, especially the yellow - just don’t know if I’d be brave enough! I have cream gloss now and am so bored of it - although it’s been fine for fingerprints.

B&Q have got a pink kitchen! Who’d have that?! Fine as a novelty but not to live with.

Dark blue has been “on its way out” for years… I went for blue because despite reading this, every time I saw a blue one I felt drawn to the picture. We had ours done 2 years ago and I love it. It feels fairly classic. We didn’t do it as a refurbishment and sell, we did it to make it our family home. We have so many compliments and it still makes me smile. Choose what makes you happy (but maybe avoid handless and gloss as they are a bit of a nightmare).

People with a colourful personality? There's some people on Instagram who have really colourful eclectic homes and they're gorgeous. Not everyone wants to live in modern or white home and that's OK!

I'd decorate my house colourful if I wasn't going tk change my mind (already had the living room bright yellow and bright pink)

Manchesterbythesea · 24/10/2024 13:19

We are going with black for our new kitchen. I have cream gloss and can’t wait to see the back of it.

Supermand · 24/10/2024 13:21

Mine is a strong green and I love it but it’s been trendy for a few years so probably on its way out now- not that I care, pick what you love.

DizzyBumble · 24/10/2024 13:21

Have just chosen my new kitchen - dove grey cupboards with white granite worktops marbled with grey

Chasingsquirrels · 24/10/2024 13:24

I did mine 5 years ago - matt sage green shaker style units, wood effect worktop and v similar wood effect LVT flooring.

I'd wanted sage green for a few years, I loved it, I still love it, no plans to change at all.

IF I was doing it again, or I moved etc, I wouldn't have shaker style (dust and dog hairs accumulate on the ledges), I'd consider a stone-type worktop (my parents have recently brought somewhere with white speckly-effect worktops and they are lovely. I'm not sure about colours.

Do it!! A bright yellow kitchen would be so joyful and sunshiney!

Boobygravy · 24/10/2024 13:34

I had a pink handleless last year.
I love the pink it's not sugary, it's quite dark.

However I completely regret handleless, I open and close the doors with clean fingers, I'm the only person that does.
The finger marks are a nightmare.

misspositivepants · 24/10/2024 13:41

We’ve gone for navy blue on the bottom and an off white on the top, matt doors, with a white quartz worktop. I see a previous comment about coloured ones on the way out, I think though it’s about what you like in your home.

I’d have loved a pink and navy kitchen but I was vetoed.

Moonshiners · 24/10/2024 13:45

I have white gloss with chrome handles. Got from DIY kitchens 6 years ago. Look absolutely brand new. Finger prints not an issue because of handles.

I love it and get to paint the walls a range of colours to add colour.
We almost got blue but very pleased I didn't as fallen out of love with the colour we chose.

JazzieC · 24/10/2024 13:53

We have white painted slab doors with thin brass handles and wood work tops. We kept our terracotta floor and I was worried about clashing colours so kept it very simple.

JazzieC · 24/10/2024 13:54

I should say creamy white doors!
