Who has their heating on?

I have just had cross words with dh and he has grudgingly agreed to put the heating on.

We live in a COLD house. It has had all the embellishments it can and it is freezing. I am currently in bed with the 'winter' duvet and a thick cardigan spread over that, I am wearing thermal underwear and a thick cardigan, and a scarf. I also have a cat as a heat pump! The air is icy, my hands are cold, my feet despite two pairs of socks in bed are icy.

DH says "well, you FEEL the cold, it's not colduntil it's minus 10 outside". Whereupon I shouted at him a bit and said I'd be in bed all winter.

DD is at her bf's near London. His parents have yhe heating on. Do you?

What is the temperature in your house?

Doggymummar · 21/10/2024 19:08

It's been warm here today. It comes on if it goes under 18 indoors which it isn't today. But it came on some days in August

roobyred · 21/10/2024 19:09

I've had it on since mid Sept.

GettingStuffed · 21/10/2024 19:12

No it's not November, our house is currently 19°C and has been down to 16 once. I have a fleece throw and s a sleeve blanket. It's nowhere near Kuddly weather and I can't find my Primark one.

Suzuki70 · 21/10/2024 19:14

No! It's 20.5 degrees in my lounge without it.

Journeyintomelody · 21/10/2024 19:15

I have the fan on...

Ihaveoflate · 21/10/2024 19:18

Our heating thermostat is set to 18 degrees and it's been clicking on every morning for a fews weeks now.

Tumbleweed101 · 21/10/2024 19:19

Not today, mild where I am, but it has been on now and then recently, especially in the morning when first getting up.

cdavis1 · 21/10/2024 19:20

Not yet. My house says 15.7 and I'm in a T shirt.

letshavetea · 21/10/2024 19:21

Goodness me! I wouldn’t even think about not having the heating on - it’s cold!!

BitOutOfPractice · 21/10/2024 19:23

Currently 22° in my lounge so we have windows open (SE England)

This is MN. Competitive about everything, including not heating your house.

Although of course some people can't afford to heat their house, which is a different matter.

TheRutshireWI · 21/10/2024 19:27

Nope it's 20.5° downstairs with the window open. No heating thus far.

RainbowWife · 21/10/2024 19:29

Definitely, it's bloody freezing in my corner of Scotland!

RainbowWife · 21/10/2024 19:29

Life is way too short to be that cold OP. Whack it on, and stuff him!

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 21/10/2024 19:30

It's still fairly warm here so the heating isn't clicking on. It's set to come on if drops below 18, and our house is showing between 19 and 20 degrees.

We did have a couple of chilly days where I popped it on for half hour, but here in East Anglia it's still pretty mild.

PandoraSox · 21/10/2024 19:32

It is chilly where I am. About 11 degrees outside. Heating is on!

pigsDOfly · 21/10/2024 19:39

If I'm cold the heating goes on regardless of the month and the outside temperature.

I feel the cold terribly so I've been putting my heating on, probably since September some time.

The thermostat in my living room is currently 23, which I'm usually comfortable with, and I'm wearing jeans a thermal vest, two jumpers and socks.

I couldn't have someone else control how I heat my home so it's probably fortunate that I live alone.

Being as cold as you are OP saps the energy out of you, as I'm sure I don't need to tell you, and is very bad for your health. It sounds awful.

DeliciousApples · 21/10/2024 19:39

Different parts of the country have different weather and different houses leach heat out making them feel cold more than others.

So it's different to say who is right or wrong!

However I've noticed since menopause that I can't handle too much heat. I now prefer it cooler. Which is not something I'd ever have believed.

So I've come to the conclusion that depending on our hormones some people need more heat than others.

Which explains why I was always asking for the heating on and my boyfriend was always asking for the heating off. And maybe why some whole households feel hot or cold, genetics?!

But now I don't mind as much if it's a tad chilly.

MiddleAgedDread · 21/10/2024 19:40

It’s been on the timed schedule (2hrs twice a day to 20 degrees) since the middle of September! We had frost and frozen cars one morning last week. I’ve had to put it on in the middle of the day when working from home some days too.

ObliviousCoalmine · 21/10/2024 19:44

I've got an electric blanket under the sheet that's been on at night for a couple of weeks. I haven't put the heating on yet.

I'm starting to get into hot water bottle territory around lunchtime for wfh though.

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 21/10/2024 19:47

No. We had it on for an hour or so in the morning a couple of days about a week or so ago, but not at the moment.

I'm not a martyr about it, and I don't have any rules like "not until November", it's just not been that cold. But it will probably go on pretty soon.

Jspaly · 21/10/2024 19:47

I’ve had it on for a couple of weeks now, it’s been cold and miserable and I’ve been feeling the cold.

yawn25 · 21/10/2024 19:49

My house is 11 degrees but no heating on yet. I'm wearing my dressing gown with a thin blanket

winewolfhowls · 21/10/2024 19:51

I think even if you're ok with jumpers and blankets the house itself needs warming to prevent damp and mildew
