Who has their heating on?

I have just had cross words with dh and he has grudgingly agreed to put the heating on.

We live in a COLD house. It has had all the embellishments it can and it is freezing. I am currently in bed with the 'winter' duvet and a thick cardigan spread over that, I am wearing thermal underwear and a thick cardigan, and a scarf. I also have a cat as a heat pump! The air is icy, my hands are cold, my feet despite two pairs of socks in bed are icy.

DH says "well, you FEEL the cold, it's not colduntil it's minus 10 outside". Whereupon I shouted at him a bit and said I'd be in bed all winter.

DD is at her bf's near London. His parents have yhe heating on. Do you?

In London, had it in for a couple of hours today. I didn't feel freezing but did feel sluggish and a bit depressed. I have a bit of a slow thyroid and cold makes it worse.

Hatty65 · 21/10/2024 21:06

Yes, I do. And my DH is like yours - muttering that 'it's mild outside' apparently.

Not mild enough in my opinion.

SwallowsAmazons · 21/10/2024 21:08

No bedroom is still 24, still opening windows. Downstairs is 18-19.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 21/10/2024 21:09

No heating through the house on as such, but the fire place in the living room goes on in the evening for the last week or so. It seems to send heat around the house. Hot water bottles have been used for the past few weeks.

KimFan · 21/10/2024 21:13

Yes, mine is on year round whenever I feel it’s a bit chilly. I’ll never feel cold and uncomfortable in my own home.

liveforsummer · 21/10/2024 21:13

I can't afford to put it on, it's freezing and causing condensation but it's just not an option. Fingers crossed we don't have a proper cold snap anytime soon 😬

WiserOlderElf · 21/10/2024 21:17

Ours is on all year round, 18 in the day and 14 overnight. I don’t want to be colder than that in the house whatever month it is. I don’t think it clicked on today because it’s mild here at the moment, but yes it’s on.

mindutopia · 21/10/2024 21:19

Dh is one of these ‘it’s good for the house if we run the heating’. It’s set to 18c and frankly to me it’s boiling. I made him turn it off today because I couldn’t sleep last night and even Dh was sleeping without the duvet (though he’d never admit he’s too hot). So yes, we had ours on but I’ve turned it back off. We live in an old farmhouse. We just aren’t acclimated to a hot house. 😂

Jux · 22/10/2024 18:03

Thank you. Our heating is set to go on when it drops below 16, so it's not actually running now but it will later.

I was able to get up today, and get dressed. It wasn't icy and I have been able to have only one cardigan on instead of two. I still have thermal underwear on though. My feet are OK in 3 pairs of socks today, though they are getting cold now but the heating will kick in quite soon, so I'll cope.

I have MS and a heart problem. I'm not really a wuss, but I do feel the cold quite badly since MS raised its ugly head. So I'm not just uncomfortable, but I feel more pain when I'm cold. DH knows that.

However, it is expensive. To me, it's worth scrimping on other things, to him it's not.

16.8 here. Fine if I use my blanket when sitting down later.

Stretchedresources · 22/10/2024 18:14

Yes, been on a month at 20° in Hampshire.
It's been too wet to not heat the house.

ssd · 22/10/2024 18:18

Its on here. Glasgow is damp and cold

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 22/10/2024 18:21

It's been on but at the moment. It's humid, muggy and the windows and back door are open. If I was cold I'd be putting it on.

Livinginaclock · 22/10/2024 18:21

I put my heating on when I'm cold, nothing to do with the calendar or what month it is.
By that logic you'd have it on in December when you were all warm enough without it.
MN is weird about everything heating.

RenoDakota · 22/10/2024 18:31

I am always surprised at the competitive under-heating on here. Especially when so many people claim to be on six figure salaries.

MeAgainAndAgain · 22/10/2024 18:39

I’ve only wanted it on about three times, but didn’t put it on as I’m really budget conscious at the moment. But I’ve just switched it on now as there’s no way I can get laundry dried.

Overtheatlantic · 22/10/2024 18:43

I’ve put a heating pad on my feet. As long as they’re warm I can handle the cold, but I refuse to suffer.

HÆLTHEPAIN · 22/10/2024 18:44

Ours is set to go on when the thermostat in the living room drops below 21° and it’s done that a few times, especially in the mornings. It’s been relatively mild here so other than that it’s been mostly off, however, if I was cold, it would be going on!

TossedSaladandSE · 22/10/2024 18:44

My heating is connected to a timed thermostat so comes on when it dips below 18 inside

hattie43 · 22/10/2024 18:46

No heating on consistently but the odd regular couple of hours as needed . I hate being cold so when it needs to be on it will be .

why on earth can’t you put the heating on yourself? Why does DH have to ok it? Men run at a hotter temperature anyway.

terracottafarm · 22/10/2024 18:52

Mines been on since September! Absolutely freeeezing

Moier · 22/10/2024 18:53

Heating and electric blanket when l feel the cold.. then all at once because of one of my conditions I'm too hot.
I can't control my body temperature sometimes.
Much prefer the sun and summer though.
Will be going to my villa in the Canaries soon.

What kind of property do you live in??? I thought I was doing well in a modern flat with temps of 21-22 without heating so far this autumn.

Nothing competitive here, I refuse to be cold in my own home so will put it on when a decent jumper and socks won't suffice.

I just haven't gotten to that point yet.
