Who has their heating on?

Jux · 21/10/2024 19:05

I have just had cross words with dh and he has grudgingly agreed to put the heating on.

We live in a COLD house. It has had all the embellishments it can and it is freezing. I am currently in bed with the 'winter' duvet and a thick cardigan spread over that, I am wearing thermal underwear and a thick cardigan, and a scarf. I also have a cat as a heat pump! The air is icy, my hands are cold, my feet despite two pairs of socks in bed are icy.

DH says "well, you FEEL the cold, it's not colduntil it's minus 10 outside". Whereupon I shouted at him a bit and said I'd be in bed all winter.

DD is at her bf's near London. His parents have yhe heating on. Do you?

I’ve just clicked ours on. It’s 11 degrees outside and dropped to 17 inside

TheChosenTwo · 21/10/2024 19:52

We don’t switch ours off ever, if it drops below a certain temperature it just clicks in. It’s come on a few times downstairs so far this year but currently my bedroom is saying it’s 21 and I don’t like a warm bedroom - it rarely comes on in here as we set out bedroom thermostat to really low but the rest of the house it does! The house is really well insulated but I hate being cold at home when just relaxing or working so if it’s chilly it’s on.

ohtowinthelottery · 21/10/2024 19:53

Ours has been on for a couple of weeks. Thermostat is set at 19°C so it only kicks in occasionally but no way would I be going to bed to keep warm unless we had a power cut.

buffyfaithspike · 21/10/2024 19:54

Mine hasn't kicked in, 18.5c inside which is comfortable

cdavis1 · 21/10/2024 19:20

Not yet. My house says 15.7 and I'm in a T shirt.

Your house is 15 degrees and you're in a t-shirt??!

Ginmonkeyagain · 21/10/2024 19:58

Not at the moment - it's been oddly warm and humid down here in London for the past few days, I've barely worn a coat outside let alone had the heating on.

TwistedSisters · 21/10/2024 19:59

We're East Anglia and it's very mild atm, temp inside is reading 19/20 atm. The heating has clicked on a few mornings, thermostat set to 19. I won't have the house colder than 18.

BunnyLake · 21/10/2024 19:59

Not cold enough for heating yet but cold enough to put a warm jumper on.

VioletCrawleyForever · 21/10/2024 19:59

Of course.

Mine has been on since September.

It's cold. It's been cold for weeks

bakewellbride · 21/10/2024 20:00

My dh is the opposite of yours and insists on having the house really warm and toasty.

Motheranddaughter · 21/10/2024 20:01

Yes
That's it on until Spring (June j
I refuse to be cold

Devilsmommy · 21/10/2024 20:04

My 2 year old will not sleep with a blanket over him so mines been on overnight for a good few weeks now as it's cold at night. He's also got a cold so it's set to stay at 22°C all night. I refuse to be cold in my own house so if I want the heating on it's going on. If you're that cold OP then whack it on and ignore your DH 😁

elliejjtiny · 21/10/2024 20:04

Not yet. I've been wearing a jumper for a couple of weeks now but I haven't felt the need to put the heating on yet.

TammyJones · 21/10/2024 20:08

Yes.
In the Midlands and it's been on since the end of September
I tried to last until October but it was colder than normal this time of year.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 21/10/2024 20:10

Scotland and 11 degrees - yep heating is on!

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 21/10/2024 20:11

Not yet but I do have a heated blanket on.

Inextremis · 21/10/2024 20:12

We lived in this house for 23 years with no central heating, just one open fire and an oil-filled radiator. 2 years ago we renovated and put in oil-fired central heating. Too right I put it on if I'm chilly - and it's such a luxury! Ours is Alexa voice controlled - DH has it on for half an hour or so before he goes to work, and I might have it on for another half hour after I get up (much later), and then maybe for an hour when we're here in the evening. 'Cos it's oil, it's pre-paid (when we get the tank filled up), so we're not running up bills we'd struggle to pay. We had the house well insulated during the renovation too, so it doesn't take long to get toasty. I'm loving it :)

feellikeanalien · 21/10/2024 20:17

It's about 15 degrees in our living room so I've put the fire on. Trying to save on heating oil!!

LouH5 · 21/10/2024 20:18

On and off. Since start of Oct there have been some nights where it feels chilly so we’ve put it on, other nights it’s warm enough and doesn’t cross our minds.

StarCourt · 21/10/2024 20:57

Haven't had the central heating on yet at all. DD has had the electric fire in the living room on a couple of nights ( until i found her with the fire on and the window open)

GreengrassofW · 21/10/2024 20:58

No still hiding under electric blanket, refusing to put it on because its so expensive

lovenotwar149 · 21/10/2024 20:59

if I feel cold I put the heating on. Period. DH doesn't say anything anymore.

lovenotwar149 · 21/10/2024 21:00

Atm it comes on in the morning for an hour , I also put to on around 5/6 pm today for an hour too

lovenotwar149 · 21/10/2024 21:01

What is it about men not wanting to put the heating on!? Geez!

ChristmasJumpers · 21/10/2024 21:06

We have ours set to kick in if it goes below 18° and it has a fair few times recently
