Earlier on I cooked myself fish and chips for dinner I asked Dd 14. If she wants anything she said no. Now she asking me to cook and I have said no. She got stroppy. And hasnt bothered eating Now I feel guilty

Dinner aside, why hasn't your 14 year old eaten breakfast or lunch today?

Namechangetotalkaboutmysleepingpillsproblem · 06/10/2024 22:19

I don't agree with most of these comments. My DC has been cooking most of his own meals since he was like 14

It's not at all odd to tell a 14 year old to make themselves something to eat. If they don't, well, that's on them.

It's actually up to us as parents to ensure our children eat an adequate amount of food.

Some of these comments are so bloody dramatic and yours @Tulip8 about OP’s previous posts was just unnecessary, rude and from what I found in her search history totally unfounded.

OP’s daughter is not 4 she is 14, and she hasn’t said her daughter can’t eat, she said you didn’t want anything when I was cooking and now your younger siblings are having bath/bed time so you’ll have to get yourself something to eat.

For this I have seen the words neglect and starve 😂 have a day off seriously…

Namechangetotalkaboutmysleepingpillsproblem · 06/10/2024 22:20

(before you all attack me he eats meat, I do not and wouldn't even know how to cook that stuff- I used to try and it was always chewy and hard, and he's more than capable

But if he didn't, would you just let him survive on chocolate and crisps like the OP has done?

Well no of course not but she's talking about one day

coffeesaveslives · 06/10/2024 22:24

@Namechangetotalkaboutmysleepingpillsproblem yeah, I personally don't think that's acceptable at 14.

Two bags of crisps and a chocolate bar is not a sufficient amount of food for a teenager.

PyongyangKipperbang · 06/10/2024 22:24

Urgh at the "Oh but you must cook for your child!!!!" no matter what time or other committments.

Had this with all of my teens (currently on 6 of 6) and I say "I am doing X for dinner, do you want some?" "No" "OK but I am cooking now, I am not cooking again later. Do you want me to save you some?" .... after that its up to them.

Tittat50 · 06/10/2024 22:26

I'm reading posts on here and have to ask if this is a joke or some en masse conspiracy? Have I fallen into the Twilight Zone?

Are posters seriously berating OP for suggesting her 14 year old on this occasion makes her own food. And berating due to no dining table?

I'm wondering if I've taken too many painkillers this evening for the love of absolute god! 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤣

Then she should have eaten when dinner was offered. She didnt, thats on her not the OP.

Viviennemary · 06/10/2024 22:27

She refused a meal when offered. She must make herself a snack. You are not a cafe or a hotel room service.

mumda · 06/10/2024 22:27

For clarity you have to tell her you're only cooking once in the evening.

Now or never.

coffeesaveslives · 06/10/2024 22:28

@PyongyangKipperbang what about breakfast and lunch - why hasn't she eaten either of those?

If she just didn't fancy dinner but had eaten other meals, that would be different.

It's not about the dinner, it's the fact that her 14 year old hasn't eaten a proper meal all day.

PyongyangKipperbang · 06/10/2024 22:31

arthar · 06/10/2024 22:03

Exactly. Thank you. She can help herself to what ever she likes meal wise . I don't restrict anything

She hasn't done that though? You need to step up. I can't get my head around a parent leaving their 14 year old with no food just to be right and prove a point.

She isnt leaving her without food, she was offered food and didnt want it. There is food available but the girl cba to make it herself and is choosing to go hungry. that is not on the OP.

At 14 are you saying that she needs these things making for her?! Thats ridiculous! A 14 year is perfectly capable of putting cereal in a bowl or a slice of cheese between two slices of bread.

It's not about who it is 'on' - OP is the adult, the parent. This isn't a playground squabble here, OP has a massive responsibility to her children.

Liv999 · 06/10/2024 22:34

Scottishday · 06/10/2024 21:23

But why does any parent have to ask a 14 year old IF they want dinner? It's a pretty basic duty of parenting to provide regular meals.

But the OP was providing a meal which her Dd turned down? Is the op supposed to turn around a few hours later and cook another meal from scratch when she's got other kids to tend to just because her dd decides she's hungry then?

Rubyandscarlett · 06/10/2024 22:35

Of course yanbu op - you offered and she said no!

My 13 year old would just knock something up in the air fryer if she rejected what was offered.

coffeesaveslives · 06/10/2024 22:46

@PyongyangKipperbang I'm saying that, as a parent, she has a responsibility to make sure her child is eating proper meals, and yes, that includes breakfast and lunch.

It's not about whether the 14yo is technically capable or not.

kittensinthekitchen · 06/10/2024 22:49

Some of the responses on this thread are absolutely ridiculous considering there'll be another repeat thread tomorrow along the lines of "My 18 year old refuses to do their own laundry" filled with replies of "Chuck them out, that'll teach them!"

And the ridiculousness of "Where on earth do you eat if you don't have a table?" <gasp>

I second the poster upthread who wondered if she'd taken too many painkillers. Absolute bonkers on here these days 😂😂

HollyKnight · 06/10/2024 22:55

This isn't an 18-year-old adult. She's a 14-year-old child who isn't eating properly for some reason. Obviously she can make herself food if she wants it, but she's not doing that. She's not eating instead. That's not normal. Healthy happy children don't just starve themselves.
