Big cities

Definitely city centers, I do it, but I don't like it.

crackofdoom · 02/10/2024 18:54

Spain. Appalling tailgaters, and the road layouts are terrible IMO.

Glasgow/Edinburgh M8!

The M8 through Glasgow is like wacky races, I weirdly love it though, it's where I learned Motorway driving.

Anedina · 02/10/2024 18:56

Cities, apart from Milton Keynes

SemperIdem · 02/10/2024 18:56

The Nantlle Valley.

Beautiful but a daunting drive in places. Especially in the dark.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/10/2024 18:57

Country lanes and Nottingham.

Hoppinggreen · 02/10/2024 18:58

I am generally ok with a lot of cities but Manchester can be a bit of a nightmare, largely because they are sticking up new apartment blocks so fast that one week theres a car park or road and the next theres a bit hole and a crane.
I always used to have an issue with Liverpool too - I could get in ok but never get out and if I did it was never the way I went in

Toddlerteaplease · 02/10/2024 18:59

I love driving In Liverpool!

Spuck · 02/10/2024 19:00

I absolutely HATE joining motorways. I hate that we have to speed up and hope there will be room for us to move over and join before we run out of space!

Tetchypants · 02/10/2024 19:00

Bradford
The M62
Italian cities
Anywhere with too many lorries and/or sheer drops.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 02/10/2024 19:01

Dubai. Wacky races!

The fairly small holiday town close to where I live. It's like being in a living action hazard perception test. Despite the fact that there are multiple pedestrian crossings down the main street people still insist on crossing in other places, cars pull out of side roads without looking, people step out from in between parked cars looking at their phones and you even get people stopping in the middle of the road to take photos. I hate driving there and really only go when it's unavoidable (my doctor and dentist are there.) Oh, and there's a particular mini roundabout that people seem incapable off using correctly. I lived in a bit city for many years and learned to drive there, I'm not scared of driving in built up areas but I really hate that little town centre. I don't know if it's something to do with lots of people being on holiday and thinking normal rules don't apply, but it's really not a nice place to drive, especially in mid Summer.

stickybear · 02/10/2024 19:02

Coventry ring road. I also avoid Swindon in case I inadvertently end up at the magic roundabout.

Any large town with a confusing one-way system. I'm looking at you Maidstone.

I was going to say Maidstone! Pick the wrong lane and suddenly you're looping off to the far side of town with no clear way back

User19876536484 · 02/10/2024 19:04

Towns and cities. Too many signs. Too easy to do something wrong.

Goldenbear · 02/10/2024 19:04

The countryside when you are on roads that are near woodlands or forests, especially at night as I fear the car breaking down.

RelativePitch · 02/10/2024 19:06

Motorways and mountain passes and Corsica.

Thwart · 02/10/2024 19:07

Swindon.

nationalsausagefund · 02/10/2024 19:08

Petworth

bozzabollix · 02/10/2024 19:11

I teach people to drive so really shouldn’t baulk at anything, but anything with massive drops and no barrier. Absolutely terrifying.

Can whiz around Maidstone no problem though! (Whiz being the wrong word with the traffic conditions).

I prefer driving OUT of MK - if I can find the damn exit.

Coventry ring road would be easy if people just moved over to the right hand lane unless joining or leaving, like they're supposed to. I think I'm just used to it. It does make getting around the place much quicker than it would be if you had to go through town though.

NetballHoop · 02/10/2024 19:11

Cairo wasn't fun

NoraLuka · 02/10/2024 19:12

High bridges where you can feel the wind buffeting you.

WaneyEdge · 02/10/2024 19:13

Manchester, so many one-way systems and you have to go miles to get back to where you want if you pick the wrong lane. Also roads that were once fine to drive down are now bus lanes or one way or no longer connect with where you thought.
