Are Sunday roasts still a thing in your house?

Will be picking up a lovely piece of beef rib today from the butchers.
It will be our first roast of the season and I'm looking forward to it already!
<greedy guts> 😆

Do you still do Sunday roasts?

I do a roast dinner every couple of weeks or so, not on a Sunday though, I'll do it through the week usually.

My kids don't like beef though so it's usually chicken or pork.

BodenCardiganNot · 27/09/2024 13:26

Yes. Most weekends we have a roast - chicken, leg of lamb, pork or beef!

GigiAnnna · 27/09/2024 13:27

Yes usually but not religiously. I do them kn the week too.

Yes, roasts during winter and barbecues during summer. Used to have a lovely local butchers but they closed down.

MidnightPatrol · 27/09/2024 13:28

I like a roast but CBA to spend half the day making it on a Sunday.

It becomes just another routine in my already routine-filled life.

Might be more appealing when the weathers bad and I’m thinking of things to do indoors.

jamtarty · 27/09/2024 13:28

DH makes roasts because he likes them. I’m happy to eat them but wouldn’t care enough to make one myself.

NahNotHavingIt · 27/09/2024 13:29

Oh God yes

My DH does a roast dinner every single Sunday, no matter what.

It's not the only reason I'm still married to him but it's up there in the top 5 😁🍠🍗

WYorkshireRose · 27/09/2024 13:29

We do, every Sunday. Usually it's chicken as that's all that DS(5) will eat meat-wise. We also have dessert afterwards, which DS helps DH to make. Only ever something simple like a crumble or jam sponge/custard, but it's my favourite day of the week 🥰

NoTouch · 27/09/2024 13:34

Not usually now, probably stopped 3-ish years ago when ds was out most Sundays and it was too much effort/food for just me and dh.

ds is regularly working most weekends now so we don't do the family roast thing anymore.

Tatiepot · 27/09/2024 13:35

I am about to introduce this as a new tradition in our house, remembering happy days with extended family when the Yorkshire Pudding was enormous and served first with onion gravy! We'll be having ours for Saturday tea so that there's time to do other stuff over the weekend as well :)

Wendysfriend · 27/09/2024 13:36

Sunday's Chinese usually or we eat out, I do a few different roast joints during the week.

Pooeyskewy · 27/09/2024 13:37

No .Children all living away and often used to work Sunday so it was never a regular feature.

CraftyNavySeal · 27/09/2024 13:38

No. I did one a few weeks ago for the first time in ages and wondered why I bothered, so much faff for something that’s not even that nice.

Much prefer a steak/stew/curry/risotto

LittleMissDaisyyy · 27/09/2024 13:38

I use to do them every other Sunday but now go through phases. Sometimes I get roast dinner obsessed & we will have them anything from 1-3 times a week. Other times it can be weeks before we have another. Around Xmas time though I like to avoid doing them so I can really go overboard for Xmas dinner 🤣

Karmaisaguyonthechiefs · 27/09/2024 13:38

Usually every other week

SanMarzano · 27/09/2024 13:38

I do them occasionally but we’re not that fussed about them tbh. I like to do batch cooking on Sundays so more likely to do something I can do a big pot of like a bean stew, curry etc.

twomanyfrogsinabox · 27/09/2024 13:39

Usually do a roast of some sort on a Saturday. Sunday is usually an easy day, leftovers or something simple, leaving room for cheese and biscuits or cake, that we never get to most days.

hattie43 · 27/09/2024 13:39

Not every week but if a chilled relaxing Sunday is on the cards then yes .

Sparxdislike · 27/09/2024 13:39

Regular roasts but not on a Sunday. It depends on what's happening through the week. Kids are so busy with clubs now.

I actually did one yesterday :)

hiredandsqueak · 27/09/2024 13:39

Yes I make one most weeks, very often on a Sunday but sometimes in the week instead or as well. We love having a roast here.

Lobelia123 · 27/09/2024 13:39

Yes, its a tradition in our house that we have a special family meal once a week on a Sunday, and its usually a roast of some description. In summer we might swop it out with grilled prawns and sides or cold meat and salads or similar, but Id say for three quarters of the year its a roast - its an easy meal to spread to feed many mouths and has that lovely traditional family feeling of coming together. Somehow it also makes us set the table, bring out the sides and sit down together to eat properly, even if for the rest of the week its a burger in front of the tv. Roasts cover everything from an expensive whole roast fillet to the faithful old standby of roast chicken for cheap and cheerful....it does make you try different herbs and spices to get a bit of variety in there too.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 27/09/2024 13:40

Nope. DC are not fans and a lot goes to waste. They're ok with Xmas dinner though.

We tend to do brunch on Sundays instead.

CoastalCalm · 27/09/2024 13:41

Once every few weeks for us and usually eaten out , there’s just way more interesting things to eat

MouseofCommons · 27/09/2024 13:41

No. Too much prep peeling the spuds and so many pans to clean afterwards. I don't like going into Monday with a messy kitchen.

Mainly just Xmas, Easter and a couple of bitterly cold weekends.

Cynic17 · 27/09/2024 13:42

No. Never have been - and I speak as a "householder" of 30+ years. Just don't want to eat or cook them.
