Are Sunday roasts still a thing in your house?

Will be picking up a lovely piece of beef rib today from the butchers.
It will be our first roast of the season and I'm looking forward to it already!
<greedy guts> 😆

Do you still do Sunday roasts?

We do roasts in the winter at teatime on Sunday. Usually chicken or roast gammon. Dc mainly live away now (ds moved back in recently) but we can pretty much guarantee them being here about 5:30 on a Sunday night!

HotDogJumpingFrogHaveACookie · 27/09/2024 15:25

Nope. I don't like roast dinners. We often eat out so if my husband wants a roast he can get one.

Oganesson118 · 27/09/2024 15:25

We have them quite a lot, every 2-3 weeks at least, because I love yorkies and roast potatoes!

No. We are a family of 2, more effort than it's worth!

Sugarsugarahhoneyhoney · 27/09/2024 15:32

Probably around once a month, kids are so fussy I would spend ages cooking it for them just to eat the meat and potatoes so I stopped cooking them once a week and we don't necessarily have it on a Sunday either.

SerenityNowSerenityNow · 27/09/2024 15:35

Yes! Every week.

I'm currently in the middle of a house renovation and have no kitchen and I'm missing it! Can't wait to get back to my Sunday routine

BeatsAntique · 27/09/2024 15:39

Most weeks. I live abroad and it’s one of those things that make me feel connected to my family and culture. If it’s a busy day and I don’t do a full roast I’ll make a shepherds pie or sausage and mash instead, something else gravy-based!

GameOfJones · 27/09/2024 15:39

Very regularly in the Autumn and Winter, we had our first one in months last Sunday. We don't do a roast dinner religiously every week but if we've got a quiet Sunday planned then we'll have a roast. So probably every couple of weeks for half of the year.

Drttc · 27/09/2024 15:40

Yes! Religiously, unless there’s a social event or we’re on holiday. We often still have it even on holiday abroad.

ByMerryKoala · 27/09/2024 15:41

Yes, most weeks we have a roast. Although very rarely on a Sunday, just because that's a ridiculously over scheduled day here.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 27/09/2024 15:42

Yes! Love a roast.

LadyGabriella · 27/09/2024 15:42

Yes. Love them. Gravy and all the trimmings.

mydogisthebest · 27/09/2024 15:47

Most weeks we have one but not necessarily on a Sunday. Always in the evening though not lunchtime.

I don't think they are a faff or time consuming and that is with making my own roast pototoes and yorkshires (frozen are horrible) and lots of different veg,

One of mine and DH's favourite meals

Decafflatteplease · 27/09/2024 15:48

We are having our first one of the season this weekend and I'm really looking forward to it. In the autumn winter months we have one most weeks, spring summer is sometimes a roast or a more fancy weekend meal like lasagne.

This Sunday we are having roast chicken, potatoes, cauliflower cheese, carrots and Yorkshire's. I get everything ready prepped/frozen and do it all in the slow cooker/air fryer so don't even need to put the oven on!

Movinghouseatlast · 27/09/2024 15:49

Yes! Not every week these days but most Sundays in the winter.

HauntedbyMagpies · 27/09/2024 15:50

@NoTouch Too much effort for two people?! Most households only have two adults or less! What a strange way of thinking...

SerenaWaldorf · 27/09/2024 15:50

Oh yes, it's my absolute favourite dinner. We don't have one every week, and more so in the winter, but they're definitely still a thing for us.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 27/09/2024 15:52

Yes but not on Sundays as kids extra curriculars get in the way so we either have it on a Saturday or a Monday.

Roast Beef, Roast Ham, Roast Chicken are our favourites.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 27/09/2024 15:52

I LOVE Sunday dinners, but we don't tend to plan weekends so if it's a nice day we would rather be out for a long bike ride and stop for a hot chocolate or snack halfway, followed by a takeaway. A Sunday dinner has to be planned and takes up a big chunk of the middle of the day so limits what we can do. But quite honestly the biggest reason is that I detest cooking. I make a great roast dinner and my roast potatoes are loved by my DH and kids, but it's not my idea of fun on a weekend. deserve a rest too so we tend to eat out or have a takeaway. So I will make one probably once a month during autumn and winter as a compromise!

mrsm43s · 27/09/2024 15:52

Generally we do every 2 or 3 weeks from Autumn to spring. I love the feeling of prepping the veg together, listening to some music, chatting together, all with a glass of wine! It's a nice homing in kind of feeling and makes the meal a bit of an event, and a great way for DH and I to spend quality time together.

Youngest has just left for Uni though, and eldest is already at Uni, meaning it's just DH and I in the house! Not sure whether we'd be able to make use of a full roast, which is a bit of a shame. I guess we'll probably just have to do them more in the holidays when the kid are back from Uni, or we'll have to invite people round for Sunday dinner to justify cooking a decent joint!

nomoregrey · 27/09/2024 15:52

Yes since ds lives 5 mini walk he comes on a Sunday for a roast dinner in the winter or bbq if it's really hot in the summer.

Bbq1 · 27/09/2024 15:54

At least a couple of Sundays a month and about once per month in the week. We love a roast here.

2chocolateoranges · 27/09/2024 15:56

It for us, a Sunday is our take away night,

Sunday used to be our visiting day to visit in-laws and going home and getting a take away was much easier than going home to cook a roast.

FuckMiniBabybells · 27/09/2024 15:58

Religiously every week from Sept-April-ish.
And a proper dessert for afters

I love Sundays. Best day of the week

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 27/09/2024 15:58

Every Sunday when l was growing up at home we had one.. gosh l miss my Mums Sunday roasts and home made Yorkshire puddings ( Yorkshire people). I used to do many when kids were at home and l was married.
Sometimes I'll make myself a mini roast or invite daughter for one...but not always on a Sunday.
