Will be picking up a lovely piece of beef rib today from the butchers.
It will be our first roast of the season and I'm looking forward to it already!
<greedy guts> 😆

Do you still do Sunday roasts?

Yes every Sunday and I'm Polish husband English I cook I just mix one week cheeken one week pork, one week beff, one week lamb I also love turkey meet as I think is the most healthy and cheap. Also if I'm out hiking husband will do beef stew is gorgeous.

GalaticalFarce · 27/09/2024 23:06

Kind of. More like a chicken traybake.
Can't be arsed with all the faff but seasoned roasted chicken, potatoes, carrots and any other veg roasted in an oven is our usual easy Sunday dinner.

Itabsolutelyispossible · 27/09/2024 23:09

Never have done. It's not a tradition l grew up with despite being born and raised in the UK.

Autumn/ winter for us and not every week, every few weeks.

Howdiditgetsobad · 27/09/2024 23:18

We do them fairly often on a Sunday as it’s a meal that we can all eat with small children who have allergies or are fussy. Rarely during the summer but definitely during the rest of the year.

Growing up, a big family meal on a Sunday was never missed. Always lunch at 1pm. Traditional roast one week at my English grandparents and Italian food at my other grandparents (who were Italian). Highlight of my week as a kid!

SockQueen · 27/09/2024 23:25

No, never really been a thing with us. I love a roast dinner if we're out, but cba to cook/wash it up at home.

Even as a child, we would go to my grandparents' every Sunday for lunch, but it could be anything, not just a roast.

LostMySocks · 27/09/2024 23:27

We have a Sunday roast all through the autumn)winter (replace with a BBQ when hit).
Often have my parents or in-laws. BIL has an open invitation. He has to let us know by 4pm so I can do enough potatoes and veg.
DSs love it. During COVID we zoomed in the grandparents to a computer screen set up on the table.
I hope that as the boys get older they will feel able to invite friends (subject to the 4pm roast potato rule).

It's usually chicken or pork for us but we buy beef and lamb when I'm special and freeze.

rustyspoon45 · 27/09/2024 23:35

Yes every Sunday without fail. When it's the height of summer and boiling outside dh always wants a Sunday bbq instead but I always feel cheated out of my roast 😂

Alternate meat but it's usually chicken, pork, beef or lamb. Roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese, stuffing, green veg. Ice cream for pudding.

It's the one meal of the week where we sit around the table together. I also like to have a slow Sunday afternoon at home getting chores done and preparing for Monday. So it works for us. A lot of faff but I wouldn't be without it.

Aproductofmyera80s · 27/09/2024 23:37

We still do, not as often as we used to though… we are having one this weekend..
pork and the trimmings all put inside a giant Yorkshire.

Yes we do. Why wouldn't we?

BruFord · 27/09/2024 23:45

We do random roasts, mainly early evening in the autumn or winter. Now that we're wfh more, one of us can bung it in around 2 on a Friday and it's ready for dinner. We all love a roast and potatoes.

CornishTeaTime · 27/09/2024 23:47

ALWAYS!!!! 🥳

CinnamonTheCapybara · 28/09/2024 00:03

Just me , DP and the Ddog here now, so I will still tend to do one as we all enjoy it. More relaxed during the summer months, so maybe gammon, egg and chips then, or I’ll make a pie and new potatoes.

Once we’re into September, we start having them regularly until after Easter.
No waste here, if there’s some going spare, I’ll plate one up for me to have on a Monday, and Ddog always enjoys what comes her way!

I like a hot pudding in the winter months too, so will do a rice or sponge pudding, and fruit crumble or cobbler is a favourite too.

Suz8 · 28/09/2024 00:18

We do but often it's not traditional as in roasties and Yorkshire puds. I would find the usual one with the typical herbs quite bland if it's every week, as much as I love a traditional roast. Eg Last week, I did a rose harissa roast chicken stuffed with orange, za'atar sweet potato wedges, greens in chilli and garlic butter and a gravy from the meat juices which had a spicy kick. Sometimes I do beef with dauphinoise spuds and dressed watercress, balsamic roasted toms etc. Also love a roast chicken with a salad in the summer.

HappyDane · 28/09/2024 00:24

@Suz8 same here - I mix it up a fair bit although it's traditional more often than not.

familyissues12345 · 28/09/2024 00:35

We have one most weeks, not always on a Sunday though. Just really appreciate that being a lazy day! Recently we've started having something like a roast ie Joint or Cottage pie, pie and mash etc on a Friday and that's quite a nice day to do it!

ODFOx · 28/09/2024 00:42

Very much so in this house.
A roast is my favourite thing to cook for guests, so we have guests most Sundays.

@CinnamonTheCapybara Our DDog is equally fond of roasts, he always gets his share.😂

I’m a big fan of hot puddings too. I get urges to make crumbles sometimes, my family make fun of me as I’ll say that I “need” to make them, it’s almost a compulsion! I think it’s a comfort thing as my Mum used to make them regularly so it reminds me of childhood. A rice pudding would make a nice change, I’m hungry now. 😋

Sheknowsaboutme · 28/09/2024 02:44

Every week. We love them!

SusiSlippers · 28/09/2024 02:53

Every other week I do a Sunday roast on the proviso that the weeks in between we go out to our local pub for a Sunday roast.

We all love a Sunday roast here whether it’s at home or at the pub (across the road).

i prefer the pub - obviously

treacledan71 · 28/09/2024 02:57

Yes every Sunday. Good way to get your veggies. I do use mainly frozen ones . Have a varied supply of different ones except carrots are fresh. Some weekends I might do a big joint and own roast potatoes and mash etc. Other weekends might just be chops and frozen roast potatoes and mash or just new potatoes in skins. All depends how busy I am. I sometimes do one in the week too but do wfh alot. Don't have a dish washer so tend to use foil containers to cook meat in etc. Veg in a stove stacked steamer.

frozendaisy · 28/09/2024 03:47

Almost every Sunday once temperature drops, too hot in summer.

CraftyGin · 28/09/2024 07:53

There are so many posts here about how much work a roast is.

The meat itself is virtually zero effort - just bung it in the oven. You don't have to brown and season if you don't want to.

The effort is in the vegetables - but it hardly amounts to much, and you still have to eat something.

Take some pride in your cooking!

It’s a lot of effort when it’s something you don’t particularly enjoy and we preferred food like Enchiladas or pasta. When the DC’s were living at home we would usually have Sunday lunch at out at our local Turkish restaurant - great food and really cheap

TheGoddessMinerva · 28/09/2024 08:04

We often have roasts in the winter. Less so in the summer.

We mainly have chicken, but always have Yorkies to go with them.
