Body Quirks

When I feel very upset, something twinges quickly and sharply in my left arm. Just next to the inner elbow. No idea why.

What foibles does your body have?

The weird thing is I get nightmares with people stabbing me and sticking their nails into my stomach and sides and it really hurts

This is sleep paralysis, I used to get it too, at first I blamed poor DH for it but then realised it was nothing to do with him

frankie001 · 16/09/2024 22:31

My friend has a squeaky eye. I can hear her blinking!

StoatofDisarray · 16/09/2024 22:35

Mint makes me sneeze. So does having an orgasm.

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 16/09/2024 22:35

Oh my people are here!

Squeaky eye, yes, although mine is more clicky. Eyelash in the corner of my eye, yes I know when to pluck it when I get a random headache.

I'll also add that brushing my teeth makes me need a wee, even if I went just before brushing my teeth. Sometimes it's so strong that I have to brush on the loo. DS also gets it the same.

MyHouseIsABusStop · 16/09/2024 22:37

When I have my first sip of wine or other alcoholic drink after a while of not drinking, my collarbone(s) hurt!

I'm loving this thread btw, so many interesting foibles!

MyHouseIsABusStop · 16/09/2024 22:39

Oh... another weird one, if there is any pressure applied to the inside of my bellybutton, I feel it in my vagina 😅 I can't be the only one? 🙈

Yeah I do get paralysis with it sometimes. I've read about it a lot and never seeing about it hurting you though

IrisApfel · 16/09/2024 22:51

If I see family members getting hurt or they tell me they've been hurt I get a weird, tingling feeling in my legs.

If my nipples are touched or when I was breastfeeding it makes the roof of my mouth really itchy.

Autumnalchick · 16/09/2024 22:53

If I'm hungry and haven't eaten in a while I get a fizzing sound down the back of my neck!

I have this too! Apparently it's to do with nerve connections.

RobinGet · 16/09/2024 23:01

My left big toe clicks when I flex it. I can make it click 100 times in a row by flexing it, but none of my other toes do it.

Me too

Singing often makes me start to cry.

Which is inconvenient and embarrassing!

How weird, I was going to say this - it happens with me too... It is hugely embarrassing, yes.

MyHouseIsABusStop · 16/09/2024 23:05

Yay! I'm not on my own then @Bearpawk @Lammveg

Had a boyfriend when I was younger who I told this to, he literally rubbed my belly bottom raw thinking it was a turn on or was some kind of foreplay... it was not!!! 😅

The roof of my mouth itches when I eat hard boiled egg yolk.

My knee “locks” bent sometimes (like about 10 times in 35 years) and the only way to release it is to lie down and roll onto the opposite side so that knee is on top.

You're probably allergic to egg, that's a common response.

Very similar - tingly thighs when kids are doing something that seems risky or when they get hurt. A nervous sensation.

MarkingBad · 16/09/2024 23:17

I get terrible nightmares nearly every day, I've been to see all sorts of people and no one can tell me why, I seem to be OK MH wise. It's slightly better since ditching caffine after 2pm but I still sit up late o nights because I don't want to go to sleep.

I told a smear test nurse some years ago that it was excruciatingly painful so she "took a look" and said she wasn't surprised as my uterus tilts backwards. She took it into account and although still uncomfortable it wasn't yelling with pain kind of thing. However I now have to tell all the other smear test nurses that my uterus tilts backwards and every last one of them has to "take a closer look", they all say "Oh yes so it does" in a really suprised fashion and I'm left feeling horrible. I understand it's not all that uncommon so if you find smear tests really painful, it might be worth asking them about backwards tilting uteri but be prepared to lie there red faced ever time you go if it is.

jaychops · 16/09/2024 23:46

If I have trapped wind, I can't feel it in my abdomen but I get pains in random places such as my shoulder (I've read that one isn't uncommon due to the diaphragm pushing up), elbow, wrist or hand.

I said the same thing earlier one! I have a fizzy ears twin 😁.

DesparatePragmatist · 16/09/2024 23:56

If I scratch or press my lower right ribs, my right inner elbow twinges.

If I'm circling both arms up and backwards, like in an exercise class, my upper lip rises in a snarl shape at the top of each arm circle.

If I'm thirsty, I don't really feel thirsty, I feel an overwhelming sense that something terrible is going to happen. Thirst feels like doom.

salamithumbs · 16/09/2024 20:30

If people start aggressively shouting at me/near me, my knuckles go all stiff and tingly and I can't bend my fingers properly...sometimes even happens if I'm watching a tense film 😬

Do your clothes suddenly get smaller and you turn green too 🤣 ... sorry ... lol 😜

Ozgirl75 · 17/09/2024 01:15

I also have clomping hips - I’m not hyper mobile but I was born frank breech so I wondered if it was something to do with that.

When I see a physical injury (like on a video, someone falling off something) or have a sudden fear, it shoots into my vagina.

Sometimes the inside of my mouth kind of peels away. It’s not unpleasant.

Sunblocker · 17/09/2024 03:57

theluckiest · 16/09/2024 21:02

There's a name for this!!! Photic sneezing! I do it too.

I'm afraid of heights and get nervous ladybits when I'm somewhere high. My feet don't clench with fear, my vagina does and it's not a pleasant feeling...

Me too! Even if it’s just watching something where someone is high up, I feel it in my fanny!
I also get electric shock tingles in my left breast and a weird tingly sensation in my left knee which I also feel in my left side simultaneously. I have googled this and asked everyone I know if they get it too, but nothing!

Miniopolis · 17/09/2024 04:32

landris · 16/09/2024 20:38

Looking at a bright light makes me sneeze.

It’s your photic reflex, genetic!

I know it doesn’t sound particularly dignified, but putting your folded hands underneath your bum can get you at a better angle for the test and make it more comfortable.
